Panthers | Offense too conservative?

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera admitted that his team's offense was too conservative in their Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. QB Cam Newton only had three pass attempts of more than 10 yards in the game. "There are some things that need to be looked at on both sides in terms of getting the ball vertical," Rivera said as he looked ahead to Week 2 at the Buffalo Bills. "We looked through it. We talked about it and those will be the things that we look to do. We have to create more of those opportunities." The Panthers rushed for 134 yards on 26 carries against Seattle.
To be fair, the Panthers were facing one of the better pass defenses in the league in the Seahawks. However, expect Newton and the offense to attempt to stretch the field more often, beginning in Week 2. This should benefit Steve Smith, Greg Olsen and the other receiving options.
