Chargers | Philip Rivers to have big role

San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy said the team will ask QB Philip Rivers to play a huge role in reducing the learning curve for the rest of the bodies on offense this year. "We're going to throw as much of the offense as Philip can handle," McCoy said. "When he tells us to slow down, we'll slow down." Rivers said the practices with new head coach McCoy have been designed for more intermediate passes than in recent years.
Taking on the challenge of an entirely new offensive scheme and key words is a tall task, but not impossible for an offensive mind such as Rivers'. The key will be whether his offensive line can protect him enough to get the ball out, and the plan for intermediate passes probably has some connection. This could be a big help to Rivers and give him a better chance to succeed and improve upon his disappointment from last season. He could be a sleeper as a solid QB2.
