New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) is set to have a checkup next week with the doctor that performed his neck surgery. He could be cleared to resume baseball activities if everything goes well. "We've got to wait to see how he shows up, where he's at in a month," manager Terry Collins said, noting that he expects Parnell to report to spring training as early as January. "He hasn't done much yet, so he's got to get himself in shape, get his legs underneath him and start throwing. We'll just have to wait to see." Parnell lost a considerable amount of weight following his surgery, which has concerned Collins. New York may sign another reliever in free agency as a backup plan in case Parnell isn't ready.
