Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb allowed three runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the San Diego Padres Friday, May 10, with two walks and 13 strikeouts. He became the first pitcher in MLB history to record that many strikeouts without making it through the fifth inning. Cobb threw 117 pitches before being removed and struck out four batters during the third inning. "I can't really explain why or how that happened," he said. "It was just one of those weird days. Obviously, that's not my goal. I never go into a game trying to strike everybody out. I was trying to put balls over the plate and have them make weak contact, and they were swinging and missing."
