St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) said he started throwing a month earlier this offseason than he had in previous years, in order to prove that his repaired shoulder was OK. "I just started getting my arm going a little earlier than I have in the past," he said. "I was a little anxious about the way I was going to feel. When you go through all the stuff that I've gone through there is always that doubt in your mind when you pick up the ball - what is it going to feel like?" Carpenter, 38, has not experienced any setbacks but the team would still like to ease him into a routine during spring training. He is not expected to make as many Grapefruit League starts as the team's younger starters.
