Dr. Bryan Kelly, who will perform surgery on 3B Alex Rodriguez's (hip) hip, said that he doesn't think his recent injury is the result of past steroid use, and he said the ailment severely affected the slugger's performance in the playoffs last year. "I was more surprised that he was able to play at all with a hip that looked like that," Kelly said. "Most people would not be able to play with a hip function like this and the imaging that looked like his." Kelly said the injury took away Rodriguez's internal rotation of his hips, which altered his mechanics and forced him to open his left foot. Kelly expects Rodriguez's rehab to go slower than after his 2009 surgery, though.
