Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (thumb) left the game Tuesday, June 19, against the Miami Marlins after suffering what he initially feared was a recurrence of the torn adductor muscle in his right thumb which sidelined him a week. He was hammered by a fastball, and while leaving the field after fouling out to first base, he shook his hand on the way to the dugout. "The ball was an inside pitch that pushed the bat back in his hand the way he didn't want it to," manager Bobby Valentine said. "He pushed back. It was about 95 mph. And he thought it might have been a recurrence. We'll see how it is (Wednesday). I'm sure we'll take all precautionary measures."
