Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (thumb) had a callus on his thumb crack open and bleed Sunday, May 13, during his win against the Oakland Athletics. The injury forced him to take an early exit. "We'll just have to wait and see, but I don't think it's much of one," manager Jim Leyland said. "You can do miracles with that kind of stuff today. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm not exactly sure how it's happening." Verlander said he wanted to stay in the game, and he doesn't expect to miss his next scheduled start Friday, May 18, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
