Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus' discussed contract extension is still a priority for Buffalo's front office, and they hope to have an agreement in place before training camp. Dareus will miss Week 1 after a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Buffalo Bills RB Bryce Brown isn't very well known by the team's running backs coach Anthony Lynn. "I don't know much about him at all," Lynn said of Brown. "I've only met him once," Lynn said Tuesday, May 19. Brown is away from the team while attending to a personal matter. Lynn said it will be difficult for Brown to make up the lost time. Including Brown, the Bills have five running backs on their roster, which further hurts Brown's chances.

The Buffalo Bills are allocating the third-highest cap dollars to their defense in 2015, behind the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns. Four of the Bills five players counting most against the 2015 cap are on the defensive line: DE Mario Williams, DT Marcell Dareus, DT Kyle D. Williams and DE Jerry Hughes.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Manuel isn't cut, he will be a midrange QB2 at best as a previous fantasy tip suggests.

Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal discussed the team's wide receivers in great detail Monday, May 18, saying he likes the flexibility among the corps and their ability to execute on the field. Lal believes Bills WR Sammy Watkins can become a complete receiver, and he praised WR Robert Woods' ability as a route runner. Lal doesn't want to pigeonhole WR Percy Harvin as being a gadget-play receiver.
Fantasy Tip: While Lal is right about his primary receiving weapons, someone still has to get the ball into their hands from a cast of likely mediocre quarterback options. Furthermore, Buffalo has invested a tremendous amount of money into their running game and have a head coach in Rex Ryan whose mantra on offense has been "ground and pound." Temper your fantasy expectations in all formats for this tethered passing game full of explosive players.

Fantasy Tip: If Manuel opens the season as the starter, he's at best a midrange QB2.

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel is likely to enter Week 1 of the season as the team's backup quarterback, in the opinion of The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci. He also thinks head coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Greg Roman are open-minded about QB EJ Manuel and will give him a fair shot to compete for a starting job this summer. If Cassel or QB Tyrod Taylor win the starting job, the Bills would be expected to trade Manuel before outright cutting him.
Fantasy Tip: Until we know who the starter is in Buffalo, you can turn your head the other way. Whoever does wind up starting in Week 1 will probably be considered undraftable in standard fantasy leagues, anyway.

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel said he likes the new offense that offensive coordinator Greg Roman is bringing to the team. "I just think the dynamics that we have and the personnel that we have, you look at the receivers, running backs and the tight ends we have at the skill positions and the O-linemen getting better, getting stronger, getting nastier," Manuel said. "But with the shifts and motions and the things we'll do to mix it up for a defense is going to be really good. Instead of just being vanilla we'll have a whole lot of different looks for opponents to prepare for."
Fantasy Tip: Manuel will be one of three quarterbacks competing for the starting job during offseason workouts and training camp. Manuel has struggled at times early in his career and would not be more than a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in 2015 if he wins the job.

Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson may not make the final roster if the Bills end up keeping only three running backs, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. RB LeSean McCoy is a lock for the final roster, while RBs Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown will also compete for a spot.
Fantasy Tip: Jackson was a point-per-reception monster last year and has been a valuable part of the Bills' offense, so it will be interesting to see how the offseason unfolds for Buffalo. McCoy will start barring an injury and, as usual, has RB1 ability in both PPR and standard scoring leagues.
