Former Houston Astros first-round pick SP Brady Aiken (elbow) revealed that he had Tommy John surgery this week for a torn collateral ligament in his left elbow. Aiken was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 First-Year Entry Draft but couldn't agree to terms. He'll miss the entire 2015 season.
Fantasy Tip: Aiken was expected to go No. 1 again, but he should still wind up becoming a first-round pick. He has no fantasy value this season, but he'll be a prospect to watch in future years.

Cuban free-agent INF Hector Olivera has received several multi-year offers, according to agent Greg Genske. He is expected to make a final decision soon.
Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old Olivera will be used primarily at second or third base but he is considered ready to play at the major league level immediately. The Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres appear to be among the favorites to sign him.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera, who will turn 30 years old next month, is expected to be ready to play in the majors immediately and could wind up signing a contract worth between $50 million and $70 million. Olivera could be worth a late-round flier in mixed leagues, provided he shows that he is healthy.

Cuban 2B Hector Olivera may have a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm which could potentially be hindering him from signing a major league contract, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: With spring training already in progress and the threat of Tommy John surgery, it is unlikely Olivera gains any traction in time to be a viable fantasy option on draft day. The 29-year-old infielder is major league-ready and could be a worthy late-round flier, but he has to be healthy and sign with the right team first.

Free-agent SP Chris R. Young (Mariners) is nearing a decision on a team, and he is expected to sign by the end of the week.
Fantasy Tip: With a 12-9 record and 3.65 earned run average, you would have thought Young would be off the board by now. Still, with just 108 strikeouts compared to 60 walks and an injury history, this is why Young is considered a deep-round selection in most fantasy leagues.

Free-agent SP Johan Santana (elbow) is planning to resume his throwing program this week. The plan is to sign in the upcoming weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Santana could very well return and make a club, but his days as a relevant fantasy pitcher appear to be very far in the rear-view mirror.
