MLB | Chad Curtis charged with sexual misconduct

Former MLB OF Chad Curtis has been charged with sexual misconduct after two teenage girls accused him of touching them at a Michigan high school where he volunteered. Curtis, 43, was arraigned Thursday at Barry County District Court on five counts of criminal sexual conduct and was freed after posting $25,000 in cash on a $250,000 bond, County Undersheriff Robert Baker said.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Mike Trout is hitting almost 100 points higher in batting average and 180 points in OPS than Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper. "I've always said I'll take Trout over Harper, because I think he controls the game better and he controls himself better," one National League executive said. "I just like Trout's rhythm as a player better. It just seems like it happens easier. He doesn't have to exert the same effort or energy to make it happen. I love the way Harper plays. He's like a power guy with a Pete Rose mindset. But Trout has the ability to slow the game down more than Harper does - or at least he does right now."

MLB | Outlawing third-to-first move?

Major League Baseball is considering removing the fake-to-third-throw-to-first move in baseball. The Playing Rules Committee has approved a proposal to make the move a balk, with MLB executives and umpires in agreement. However, the players union vetoed the plan in order to discuss it further. Under the new rule, a pitcher wouldn't be allowed to make the move unless he steps off the mound first.

Free-agent P Juan Carlos Paniagua will be eligible to sign with a team July 19, and he'll be subject to the new international signing bonus pool restrictions. Paniagua's $1.1 million deal with the New York Yankees fell apart in March, but that deal fell apart last year when MLB declared him ineligible to sign for one year due to issues with his documentation.

According to MLB and players' association officials, personal-service deals and milestone bonus clauses similar to those contained in 1B Albert Pujols' contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will no longer be approved. MLB senior vice president of labor relations Dan Halem said that the contracts of Pujols and Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman, as well as New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez's 2007 deal, will not be affected by the new rules but no future contracts including similar terms will be allowed.
