Share: MLB | Toronto-New York game postponed Sun, 19 May 2013 10:02:22 -0700 The game between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees scheduled for Sunday, May 19, has been postponed. The game will be made up Thursday, May 9. Share: MLB | Carlos Zambrano works out for teams Mon, 13 May 2013 16:54:05 -0700 Free-agent SP Carlos Zambrano (Marlins), who agreed to terms with the Long Island Ducks of the Independent League last week, never actually signed a contract because he still thinks he can get a deal with a major league team. Zambrano worked out Monday, May 13, and the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds were in attendance. The Phillies reportedly were close to signing Zambrano last week. Share: MLB | Trouble brewing with umpires? Fri, 10 May 2013 07:51:08 -0700 Several sources indicated the relationship between the players and the umpires has soured significantly. "It's gotten so much worse, I'd say over the last 10 years, gradually," a nine-year National League veteran said earlier this week. "And I think a big part of the problem is the egos some of these umpires carry with them, like they are above being wrong, and we better not dare have a question about it. You have really, really good umpires out there for the most part, but there are some who players really think are looking to run you." Share: MLB | Chad Jones turning to baseball Thu, 09 May 2013 16:28:38 -0700 Former New York Giants third-round pick SS Chad Jones (ankle, leg) will attempt to make a comeback in professional baseball. Jones pitched and played the outfield for Louisiana State University, and he was drafted in the 13th round of the 2007 MLB Draft but opted to play football instead. He underwent a dozen surgeries to save his foot and leg in 2010 after he was in a serious car accident. Jones has been pitching for a few months. Share: MLB | Headgear for pitchers: nothing imminent Wed, 08 May 2013 10:40:00 -0700 MLB vice president Dan Halem stated that "nothing is imminent" as far as the allowance of protective headgear for pitchers, in the wake of the incident on Tuesday, May 7, to Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ. Halem said the league has been active in its effort to find a product that would pass MLB-commissioned safety standards. "It's not an easy engineering task to find something (sufficiently protective) to fit in or even over a cap," he said. He also stated that MLB's intent is to offer anything approved on a voluntary basis. MLB has no rules preventing pitchers from wearing padding in a standard-issue cap. Fantasy Tip: The league and players would both want something that doesn't affect pitchers' performance, too, obviously. Batting helmets have also undergone few radical changes in wake of events in recent history, either. Thankfully, these kinds of incidents are few and far between. Share: MLB | Tigers-Nationals postponed Tue, 07 May 2013 13:46:09 -0700 The game between the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, has been postponed. It has not yet been rescheduled. Share: MLB | Brian Wilson not ready Fri, 03 May 2013 13:53:30 -0700 Free-agent RP Brian Wilson (elbow) has been telling teams he won't even throw for them until he's fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, which means he won't return until at least the All-Star break. Fantasy Tip: Wilson could be added to a club that is in dire need of bullpen help around mid-summer, so don't completely forget about him in your fantasy league. Depending on the team he signs with, he could be valuable in all leagues. Share: MLB | White Sox-Royals postponed Fri, 03 May 2013 12:58:27 -0700 The game between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals scheduled for Friday, May 3, has been postponed due to inclement weather.
