Fantasy Tip: Cueto ended his tenure with the Kansas City Royals in style, as he held the New York Mets to one run through nine innings in winning fashion during Game 2 of the World Series. However, he struggled during the regular season with a 4.76 ERA through 81.1 innings. Still, Cueto projects to return to being a fringe No. 1 starter for your fantasy rotation, especially if he returns to the National League. After all, dating back to 2011, he has a 2.71 ERA, a 3.41 FIP, a 1.08 WHIP and a 7.5 K/9 over 889 1/3 innings.

Free-agent SP David Price (Blue Jays) is being targeted by the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox, according to major league sources. Price is open to returning to the Toronto Blue Jays, but they are not expected to make a major run at him. Price values comfort with his teams, so the Cubs might be a good fit, as Price has ties to manager Joe Maddon. Price is unlikely to consider Boston one of his first choices.
Fantasy Tip: With such a big market in play for Price as one of the top free-agent starting arms, this isn't a situation that will unfold quickly. But wherever Price lands this winter, expect him to once again be highly coveted as a top arm in fantasy drafts next spring.

Free-agent SP Tim Lincecum (hip) will throw for teams in January after he recovers from September hip surgery, according to sources. Lincecum has spent the offseason funding his own rehabilitation in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he's receiving daily guidance from a hip-rehab specialist who worked at the Colorado clinic where he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip and fix an impingement.
Fantasy Tip: Lincecum could be worth a final spot on your fantasy pitching staff if he comes to spring training healthy with a shot at a rotation spot.

Fantasy Tip: The St. Louis Cardinals have also chimed in but not to the extent these two teams might have interest. Lackey would be a decent option as long as the deal was less than two years. His decent postseason will give him a bump up on draft boards, at least to the middle rounds.

The New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs are discussing a potential deal that would send OF Brett Gardner to the Cubs in exchange for 2B Starlin Castro, according to a source. The Cubs are in desperate need of a center fielder with free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs) expected to leave in free agency. The Yankees are in need of a second baseman, and Castro made the move from shortstop to second in August.
Fantasy Tip: This is a potential trade that would likely benefit both parties involved and make their fantasy values more intriguing for the 2016 season. Castro, especially, would be in the clear for guaranteed playing time in the Bronx. Stay tuned.

Fantasy Tip: Wolfe claims that most of the interested teams plan to use him as an everyday infielder, although it is uncertain if he would be used primarily at one position or at multiple positions. Utley, who will turn 37 before the start of next season, hit just .212 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 107 regular-season games and isn't worthy of being drafted outside of single-universe leagues at this point.

Free-agent RP Joakim Soria (Pirates) is reportedly seeking a three-year deal worth approximately $27 million.
Fantasy Tip: Soria is considered to be one of the top relievers available in free agency. He went 3-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 24 saves in 70 appearances with Detroit and Pittsburgh last season. He could be a midrange closer option in fantasy baseball drafts next spring, depending on which team signs him.

Free-agent RP Darren O'Day (Orioles) is seeking a four-year deal in the $28-$36 million range on the open market, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: O'Day is coming off a stellar 1.52 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and a career-high 11.30 K/9. It's possible that he lands in a closing situation, but he's more of a reliever to grab for ratios in the back half of drafts.

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers acquired OF James Jones, RP Tom Wilhelmsen and a player to be named later from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for OF Leonys Martin and RP Anthony Bass Monday, Nov. 16.
Fantasy Tip: Jones is the only notable addition to the trade, and he is a low-end fantasy option in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, at best. Through 359 career plate appearances, Jones owns a .238/.268/.296 slash line. You should aim higher in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Free-agent OF Matt Joyce (Angels) is playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic in an effort to regain his stroke at the plate.
Fantasy Tip: Joyce was a .254-9-52 hitter in Tampa Bay in 2014, but his batting average dropped 80 points last season. His fantasy value went right with it, but if he has a decent winter ball experience then he could be a low pick in mixed league formats. He does have the tools, Joyce just lost them somewhere.
Mon, 09 Nov 2015 08:15:17 -0800
Free-agent OF Nori Aoki (concussion) has fully recovered from his concussion and is 100%, according to his agent Nez Balelo.
Fantasy Tip: Aoki could be a flyer in the final few rounds of fantasy drafts if he lands on a team with a large enough role.

Free-agent 1B Mike Napoli (Rangers) could resume catching next year for the first time since the 2012 season. He had stopped playing the position completely because of a degenerative hip condition and has served exclusively as a first baseman, designated hitter and left fielder since then.
Fantasy Tip: Napoli was never a great defensive catcher, so fantasy owners shouldn't assume that it will ever become his primary position again. He hit .224 with 18 home runs and 50 RBIs in 133 regular-season games between Boston and Texas, although he hit .295 in 78 at-bats after being acquired by the Rangers while mainly facing left-handed pitching.
Sun, 08 Nov 2015 11:15:31 -0800
Free-agent OF Shane Victorino (Angels) is finally healthy and expects to return to switch hitting with his new team, according to agent John Boggs.
Fantasy Tip: Victorino batted exclusively right-handed during the 2015 season because he experienced soreness whenever he hit from the left side in spring training. He hit just .230 with one home run, seven RBIs and seven steals in 178 at-bats this year and isn't worth much more than a late-round flier in single-league fantasy formats.
Fri, 06 Nov 2015 17:02:17 -0800
Free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals) continues to recover from left hip surgery and is expected to resume jogging in several weeks. He will begin performing baseball activities shortly after that.
Fantasy Tip: Span became a free agent after the Nats declined to give him a qualifying offer due to medical concerns. However, he was productive when healthy, batting .301 with five home runs, 22 RBIs and 11 steals in 61 games in 2015. Fantasy owners should consider taking a late-round flier on him during next year's drafts because of his ability to help in categories such as batting average, runs scored and stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore and seasonal players will want to avoid all players from this game Friday. Expect a doubleheader between Miami and Philadelphia Saturday, Oct. 3.
