MLB | Brady Aiken undergoes Tommy John surgery

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 06:57:54 -0700

Former Houston Astros first-round pick SP Brady Aiken (elbow) revealed that he had Tommy John surgery this week for a torn collateral ligament in his left elbow. Aiken was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 First-Year Entry Draft but couldn't agree to terms. He'll miss the entire 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: Aiken was expected to go No. 1 again, but he should still wind up becoming a first-round pick. He has no fantasy value this season, but he'll be a prospect to watch in future years.

MLB | Hector Olivera declared free agent

Sat, 07 Mar 2015 10:03:33 -0800

Cuban 2B Hector Olivera has been declared a free agent by Major League Baseball.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera, who will turn 30 years old next month, is expected to be ready to play in the majors immediately and could wind up signing a contract worth between $50 million and $70 million. Olivera could be worth a late-round flier in mixed leagues, provided he shows that he is healthy.

MLB | Hector Olivera injured?

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 16:02:44 -0800

Cuban 2B Hector Olivera may have a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm which could potentially be hindering him from signing a major league contract, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: With spring training already in progress and the threat of Tommy John surgery, it is unlikely Olivera gains any traction in time to be a viable fantasy option on draft day. The 29-year-old infielder is major league-ready and could be a worthy late-round flier, but he has to be healthy and sign with the right team first.

MLB | Chris R. Young nears decision on team

Tue, 03 Mar 2015 12:56:05 -0800

Free-agent SP Chris R. Young (Mariners) is nearing a decision on a team, and he is expected to sign by the end of the week.

Fantasy Tip: With a 12-9 record and 3.65 earned run average, you would have thought Young would be off the board by now. Still, with just 108 strikeouts compared to 60 walks and an injury history, this is why Young is considered a deep-round selection in most fantasy leagues.
