MLB | Alex Rios received multiple offers

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 17:39:07 -0700

Free-agent OF Alex Rios (Royals) received offers from several MLB teams during the offseason but declined them in the hopes of landing with a club that would give him a significant role.

Fantasy Tip: The 35-year-old Rios hit .255 with four home runs and 32 RBI in 385 at-bats for Kansas City in 2015 and could retire if no team comes forward with a suitable offer. If he does wind up signing somewhere, he should be viewed as an option exclusively for single-universe fantasy leagues.

MLB | Pirates-Rockies postponed

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 10:42:18 -0700

The game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies scheduled for Thursday, April 28, was postponed due to inclement weather. No makeup date was announced. Pirates SP Juan Nicasio was scheduled to face Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.

Fantasy Tip: On a day with few games, the players to choose from just got smaller. Make sure to avoid any of the players from this game in daily fantasy, and it makes spending up for high-priced players like Jake Arrieta more palatable.

MLB | Tim Lincecum showcase coming soon

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 10:27:51 -0700

Free-agent SP Tim Lincecum (Giants) was spotted throwing at the San Francisco Giants' Arizona complex, and he's expected to have a showcase for teams soon.

Fantasy Tip: What does Lincecum have left in the tank? It's hard to say, but the Freak's skills and velocity have tumbled the last several years mainly due to various injuries. He could become a spot starter in the deepest of leagues if he lands in the right situation and stays healthy. Stay tuned.

MLB | Kyle Lohse looking for the right team

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:51:14 -0700

Free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers) is looking for the "right fit" before signing a contract. He has received interest from the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds, and the Orioles have offered Lohse a contract.

Fantasy Tip: Lohse has a 5.8 K/9 mark during his 15-year career, and his ERA ballooned to 5.85 last season. There is extremely limited fantasy upside here, especially if Loshe signs in the American League. He is an innings eater who likely won't help in any particular category, and those are the worst pitchers to own in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy can still be a factor in AL-only leagues if he signs.

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin was scheduled to face Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Sunday, April 10, but the game has been postponed because of inclement weather. The two teams are now scheduled to play a doubleheader May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Owners in all leagues should remove the Indians and White Sox players they had in their lineups.

MLB | Boston-Cleveland postponed

Thu, 07 Apr 2016 14:01:13 -0700

The game between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians Thursday, April 7, has been postponed. Red Sox SP David Price will now pitch the home opener against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, April 11.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to swap out any players from this game where possible, and especially in daily contests. It is a tough break for those in weekly leagues, as they'll lose a start from Price this week. However, the silver lining is Baltimore could be a softer opponent than the Toronto Blue Jays, who Price was originally set to face Sunday, April 10.

MLB | Greg Holland throwing

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 16:47:16 -0700

Free-agent RP Greg Holland (elbow) is throwing from up to 60 feet in Arizona and hopes to sign with a team soon. However, it's unlikely he'll pitch this year after having Tommy John surgery last September.

Fantasy Tip: Holland shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar in 2016. He could become fantasy relevant in 2017, though, if he signs with a club that has questions at the back end of their bullpen.

MLB | Tim Lincecum rehab update

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 18:30:42 -0700

Free-agent SP Tim Lincecum (Giants) is said to be throwing at 90 mph on flat ground. The 31-year-old right-hander is expected to hold a showcase for interested teams when he feels that he is completely healthy.

Fantasy Tip: More than 20 MLB teams have expressed interest in Lincecum, whose 2015 season ended prematurely following left hip surgery. He should go undrafted in most fantasy leagues but is worth monitoring to see if he latches on with a club in a starting role.

MLB | 15 teams interested in Justin Masterson

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 17:14:38 -0700

Updating previous reports, at least 15 MLB teams are expected to have representatives in attendance for free-agent SP Justin Masterson's (Red Sox) showcase in Phoenix Monday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: At this point in the spring, it's unlikely that Masterson would be able to command more than a minor-league deal from any team. The 31-year-old right-hander possesses very little fantasy value and should go undrafted in all formats.

MLB | Multiple teams interested in Kyle Lohse

Thu, 24 Mar 2016 18:14:18 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers were among the teams represented at a showcase for free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Brewers) earlier this week.

Fantasy Tip: The Miami Marlins had been the only other team connected to Lohse but it appears unlikely that they will pursue him at this point. The 37-year-old righty went 5-13 with a 5.85 ERA in 37 games (22 starts) for Milwaukee last season and should be viewed as nothing more than a back-of-the-rotation option for single-universe and cavernous mixed leagues.
