Phillies | Chase Utley prefers to stay

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 09:02:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley would prefer to remain with the team if it were up to him. The Phillies are currently 42-53 and in last place in the National League East, and they might try to dangle their veterans in trades for prospects before the July 31 deadline. Utley is owed $15 million next year. "If someone at some point comes up to me and says you're not wanted in Philadelphia anymore, I might have to rethink that," he said. "I think if I was a betting man I would say probably there will be no change."

Phillies | Chase Utley, Cole Hamels not likely to be dealt

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 19:08:57 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies team president David Montgomery said that the team will consider all possible trade scenarios, but any deals that are made are unlikely to involve 2B Chase Utley or SP Cole Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: With Utley and Hamels off the table, Cliff Lee, A.J. Burnett, Jonathan Papelbon and Marlon Byrd figure to be among the bigger names that teams inquire about.

Athletics | Sean Doolittle in peak form

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 07:31:12 -0700

Oakland Athletics CL Sean Doolittle struck out the side Wednesday, June 25, for his 11th save. He extended his scoreless streak to 25 1/3 innings and has retired 37 of his last 38 batters.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is in another stratosphere right now. If you're way ahead in saves, now is the time to cash in and get a nice chip for what was likely a waiver claim. However, we can see riding his hot streak as well.

Pirates | Restless Neil Walker ready to return

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 18:06:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker (appendix) has been sidelined for the past eight days after having an appendectomy, but he is ready to return from the 15-day disabled list. He has seven more days until he is eligible to come back, and he is annoying manager Clint Hurdle. "He's living up to that 'Dennis the Menace' nickname I dropped on him five minutes after I met him," Hurdle said Tuesday, June 17. "He's gonna simulate being an extra man, he'll go up in the (indoor batting) cage and hit off the machine, with velocity and spin. The more he (yaps), the healthier he's getting. He came up here (into my office) twice today, which never happens when he's healthy."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Walker will be ready to come off the DL as soon as he is eligible. It's uncertain if he will need a game or two in the minors for a rehab stint, but fantasy owners should prepare to activate him next week. When Walker does return, there is no way Gregory Polanco will be displaced, so Josh Harrison likely stands to lose playing time.

Wed, 11 Jun 2014 10:29:22 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright tossed another seven shutout innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, June 10, but he didn't have nearly his best stuff on the mound, and he's been fighting through cold-like allergies and a stuffed head for the last month. "My two-seamer was OK. My cutter was OK. My curveball was not very good. My fastball was not great, really," Wainwright listed. "Command was not as good as it has been. But it wasn't terrible. You've got to find ways to get outs sometimes."

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran (elbow) went 0-for-3 in an extended spring game Monday, June 2, but said his elbow felt good. He plans to play in two more extended spring games before returning to the team.
