Toronto Blue Jays news, rumors and injuriesSat, 25 May 2013 18:37:20 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said RP Ramon Ortiz and SP Thad Weber are options to start Wednesday, May 29. Share: Blue Jays | Rajai Davis making some progress Sat, 25 May 2013 18:20:12 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said OF Rajai Davis (oblique) has been able to do some dry off the tee and minor baseball activities. He likely will have to play some rehab games before he returns to the team. Share: Blue Jays | Jose Reyes starting to run Sat, 25 May 2013 16:00:35 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (ankle) was able to begin running Friday, May 24, which is the first time he has put a lot of pressure on his ankle since he injured it. He has been hitting tosses and played catch before starting to run. He is expected to take batting practice and field ground balls next week and could even resume full baseball activities. Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Reyes is making good progress in his return from a severely sprained ankle. He will be starting more baseball activities soon but is probably a few weeks away from returning. The team may have him go on a rehab assignment before rejoining the team. Share: Blue Jays | Sean Nolin optioned Sat, 25 May 2013 12:02:32 -0700 The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned SP Sean Nolin to Double-A New Hampshire. In a corresponding move, P Thad Weber has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. Share: Blue Jays | Brett Lawrie ejected Fri, 24 May 2013 20:08:23 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays 3B Brett Lawrie was ejected Friday, May 24, against the Baltimore Orioles for arguing a called third strike. Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Lawrie will face any disciplinary action, but he was likely blowing off steam after a frustrating game, and a frustrating season to date. Share: Blue Jays | Roster moves Fri, 24 May 2013 10:37:03 -0700 The Toronto Blue Jays placed RP Darren Oliver (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list to clear space for SP Sean Nolin, who'll start Friday, May 24. Oliver's DL stint is retroactive to Sunday, May 19. Toronto also moved J.A. Happ (head, knee) to the 60-day DL. Share: Blue Jays | J.A. Happ aims to return in June Thu, 23 May 2013 15:52:15 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ (head, knee) hopes to return to the rotation in mid-June. The earliest he'll try throwing outdoors is Friday, May 24, because he hadn't yet received the knee brace required for him to start doing so. Happ, who suffered a fractured skull, ear contusions and sprained right knee ligaments on the fall when he was hit in the head with a line drive on May 7, hasn't begun running but has been throwing indoors against a wall with a weighted ball. His head injuries have healed according to plan, per doctors. Fantasy Tip: It's fortunate to see him making this recovery after the ghastly incident. AL-only leaguers should expect him back for back-end utility this summer. Share: Blue Jays | Sean Nolin, Chad Jenkins joining rotation Thu, 23 May 2013 12:51:05 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said SP Sean Nolin will start Friday, May 24, and SP Chad Jenkins will start Sunday, May 26. Fantasy Tip: Nolin, 23, has more upside than Jenkins, and he'll be making his major league debut after going 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA in three starts for Double-A New Hampshire this year. He lacks a true dominant pitch and hasn't pitched above Class AA ball, though, so temper your expectations. Nolin and Jenkins likely face short stays in the rotation, too, limiting there value. Share: Blue Jays | Adam Lind serving as cleanup hitter Tue, 21 May 2013 20:06:43 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons has settled on 1B Adam Lind as his everyday cleanup hitter against right-handed pitching. Lind has earned the role after turning into one of the club's most reliable hitters. Entering Tuesday, May 21, Lind was batting .351 with three homers and a 1.076 OPS. Fantasy Tip: Lind has had his tough times over the past few years, but he has re-emerged as a must-start in all AL-only fantasy leagues and most mixed formats while hot. Share: Blue Jays | Chad Jenkins likely for Friday Tue, 21 May 2013 20:06:02 -0700 The Toronto Blue Jays have not officially decided who will start Friday, May 24, against the Baltimore Orioles. SP Chad Jenkins is expected to draw the assignment, but that might change if he is needed out of the bullpen for an extended appearance. Share: Blue Jays | Josh Johnson to make two more rehab starts Tue, 21 May 2013 20:05:25 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) is expected to need two more minor-league rehab starts before he is activated from the 15-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: It will be able to two weeks before fantasy owners should consider activating Johnson. He will step back into the starting rotation, but cautious owners might want to see how he fares in his first start in the majors before plugging him back into the lineup. Share: Blue Jays | Miguel Batista released Tue, 21 May 2013 14:29:21 -0700 The Toronto Blue Jays released SP Miguel Batista Tuesday, May 21. Share: Blue Jays | Josh Johnson has productive rehab start Tue, 21 May 2013 10:45:26 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) threw three innings for high Single-A Dunedin on Monday, May 20. He gave up three hits and one run while striking out five without issuing a walk. Fantasy Tip: He's probably slated for one more run-through before joining the Jays. After a rough start to the season, Johnson has a solid chance to offer rebound fantasy value if he can stay on the field. Share: Blue Jays | Anthony Gose could be defensive replacement Mon, 20 May 2013 11:30:12 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose could be used as a defensive replacement late in games, and manager John Gibbons wasn't sure if Gose will be a short- or long-term addition to the team. Gose was hitting only .227 with two home runs and five stolen bases at Triple-A Buffalo. He hit .223 in 56 games with the Blue Jays last year. Fantasy Tip: Gose won't play enough to warrant consideration in mixed leagues. If you're desperate for outfielders in a deep AL-only league, take a look. Share: Blue Jays | Josh Johnson to make rehab start Mon, 20 May 2013 07:53:59 -0700 Toronto Blue Jays SP Josh Johnson (triceps) will throw three innings or 50 pitches in his first rehab start Monday, May 20, at Class A Dunedin. He'll need at least one more rehab start. Share: ![]() |
