Blue Jays | Marcus Stroman knocked around Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:30:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman was roughed up by the Boston Red Sox for the second time in as many starts against this season on Saturday, May 28, giving up a season-high tying seven runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings. Stroman was also tagged for five runs in 5 1/3 frames versus Boston in his second start of the season on April 8.

Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox have made a lot of pitchers look bad in 2016, but the bigger concern here is that Stroman has surrendered 14 runs and 24 hits over across 11 innings over his last two home starts. Considering his next two outings are slated to come in Boston and Detroit, it might be worth sitting the 25-year-old Toronto ace for his next two turns.

Blue Jays | Devon Travis drives home winning run

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:01:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis continued his bid to move into the leadoff role sooner than later on Saturday, May 28, going 2-for-5 with two RBI - including the winning run to complete a rally - in a comeback win over the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: The leadoff spot has been a bit of a revolving door lately in Toronto, with Jose Bautista currently batting atop the order. Travis has at least one hit in each of the four games he has played since his return from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the team's first 47 contests, and the Blue Jays have won each time with him in the lineup. He should added and active in most leagues going forward, as he offers the potential for a .300 average and some pop at a weak fantasy position.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin warming up

Sat, 28 May 2016 13:38:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin played an instrumental role in a 10-9 comeback victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, May 28, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three runs scored. Martin homered in the sixth, sparked a four-run eighth to tie it up at 8-8 with an RBI single and delivered a game-tying, run-scoring double in the ninth before crossing the plate on 2B Devon Travis' walk-off infield single moments later.

Fantasy Tip: Martin, whose batting average hasn't exceeded .200 at any point this season, broke out of a season-long power slump with two blasts on Wednesday and has four extra-base hits over his last four games after producing only one extra-base hit over his first 122 at-bats. Martin's track record was too good for owners to bail on him, so for those patient enough to ride it out, they may be getting their reward now. Despite his woeful start, he's still a good bet to be a top-10 backstop at season's end.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki placed on DL

Sat, 28 May 2016 09:03:57 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki (quadriceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, May 28, because of a right quadriceps strain. The team also activated RP Aaron Loup (from) from the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see how long Tulowtizki may be out of the lineup. Darwin Barney is the most likely candidate to start at shortstop while Tulowitzki is sidelined. He saw solid playing time at second base when Devon Travis was out with an injury and is hitting .301 with two home runs and six RBI. Barney should be starting in all AL-only leagues and can be a short-term option in some deeper mixed leagues.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki on the bench

Sat, 28 May 2016 08:25:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Saturday, May 28. 2B Darwin Barney will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Barney is hitting .311 in limited playing time this month but has gone hitless in his last six at-bats. Barney has some value in daily fantasy leagues, but owners should be able to find better starting options to use.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista returns

Sat, 28 May 2016 08:10:17 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Saturday, May 28, and is batting first. Bautista missed the last game because he was serving a one-game suspension.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista has recorded at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 games and has four home runs and 12 RBI during that span. Bautista should be a starting option in all leagues.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson drives in five

Fri, 27 May 2016 19:28:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson went 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in a 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: His average is down a bit from his MVP season last year, but Donaldson is still providing excellent numbers in the other offensive categories. Expect more big nights at the plate going forward.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki back in the lineup

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:08:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki (quadriceps) is starting at shortstop and batting fifth against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Tulowitzki has missed the past two games with the injury, but he was just beginning to heat up with eight runs, three home runs, 10 RBI and a .313/.358/.604 slash line through his previous 13 games. Return him to your seasonal lineups and view him as a high-risk, high-reward option in daily contests for his first game back Friday.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista's suspension upheld

Fri, 27 May 2016 12:52:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista's one-game suspension for an on-field altercation with Texas Rangers 2B Rougned Odor Sunday, May 15, was upheld Friday, May 27. Bautista will serve the suspension in the game against the Boston Red Sox Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Bautista in daily contests Friday, and replace him in seasonal lineups where you can. And while his numbers might not jump off the page, it is tough to criticize his 30 runs, 10 home runs and 34 RBI, as it appears he is well on his way to another moster season.

Blue Jays | J.A. Happ beats Yanks for sixth W

Thu, 26 May 2016 17:02:06 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ improved to 6-2 after beating the New York Yankees Thursday, May 26. The southpaw worked seven sharp innings, yielding only one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out five.

Fantasy Tip: Happ should be drawing some serious All-Star consideration, as this was his ninth quality start in 10 tries. He's also gone at least six innings in all but one of his assignments. The left-hander may not rack up as many strikeouts as he used to, but he's proving to be a reliable arm for fantasy teams of all formats. He'll keep claiming wins, too, being able to lean on one of the best offenses in the game.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista has appeal heard

Thu, 26 May 2016 11:50:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista had his appeal heard Thursday, May 26, on his one-game suspension. There has been no announcement on it yet.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista is in the lineup Thursday, but that could just mean it'll be a day or two for an announcement on his appeal. He's leading off against CC Sabathia today, and he's a daily consideration in a good matchup.

Blue Jays | Troy Tulowitzki remains out

Thu, 26 May 2016 11:11:07 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki (quadriceps) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, May 26. 2B Darwin Barney is starting at shortstop and is batting ninth against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia.

Fantasy Tip: Tulo is still day-to-day and could return as soon as Friday. He was beginning to see consistent results at the plate, too, so make sure to get him back into all lineups when he's ready. Barney, despite a .319 average in 69 at-bats, doesn't move the fantasy needle enough to be anything more than a desperation daily pick.

Blue Jays | Marco Estrada earns second win

Wed, 25 May 2016 22:01:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada earned his second victory of the season on Wednesday, May 25, against the New York Yankees. Estrada, who hadn't won since April 10, allowed four hits and three runs in seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: Well, that was overdue. In the seven starts he made between his first and second victories, Estrada worked fewer than six frames just once and yielded one earned run four times. With any kind of support Estrada could have five wins by now and is doing enough with strikeouts and ratios to remain viable even without the Ws.

Blue Jays | Devon Travis makes 2016 debut

Wed, 25 May 2016 21:53:08 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis was in the starting lineup on Wednesday, May 25, marking the first time he played in the majors since July 28, 2015. He batted eighth and went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Fantasy Tip: Travis opened eyes with his .304-8-35 line as a rookie and could find himself at the top of the order before too long. There's a lot of upside here, making Travis someone you should stash away before someone else does.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin goes deep twice

Wed, 25 May 2016 21:39:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin hit a pair of home runs against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, May 25. They were Martin's first two home runs of the season after he hit 23 with the Jays in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Martin inexplicably entered play on Wednesday with one extra-base hit in 122 at-bats before finding the cheap seats twice. Maybe this will get Martin going, as the veteran has long been a consistent source of power at the position -- 17.6 HRs, 63.4 RBI over his previous five campaigns. Keep an eye on him.
