Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion continues to make his case to break the bank as a free agent this offseason, as his homer total ranks third in the majors, while his 87 RBI leads all of baseball. The .265 average is a bit disappointing but right in line with his career mark. It's also the only criticism owners can level on Encarnacion, who needs to be started in fantasy any time he is in the Blue Jays' lineup.

Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ won his seventh straight decision and improved to 13-3 on the season in a mostly dominant effort against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, July 24, allowing a single and four walks while fanning six over as many innings.
Fantasy Tip: The walk total was a bit surprising since Happ issued one more free pass Sunday than he had in his previous four starts combined. Nevertheless, the 33-year-old southpaw has seemingly regained his previous form after posting a 5.28 ERA in June (3-0 with a 1.48 ERA in four July outings). Happ will be an average fantasy start at best in his next turn - Saturday versus the Baltimore Orioles - but is well worth leaving in your lineup anyway.

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley Sunday, July 24. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will start at first base, while 3B Josh Donaldson will serve as the designated hitter. 2B Darwin Barney will start at third base and is batting first.
Fantasy Tip: Barney is hitting .302 with five RBI this month and has a .282 average with one home run and four RBI against left-handed pitchers. Owners in daily fantasy leagues can considered Barney as a sleeper option for their lineup. Encarnacion and Donaldson should be started in all leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Thole will continue to start as long as Martin is dealing with his knee injury but probably should not be used outside of AL-only and two-catcher leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Storen has been a colossal disappointment this season, going 1-3 with three saves and a 6.21 ERA in 38 appearances for the Blue Jays, with 10 walks and 32 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings. However, don't be surprised if another team takes a flier on him based on his previous success with the Washington Nationals. Tepera is a 28-year-old right-hander who possesses no fantasy value.

Fantasy Tip: Saunders had only homered once since June 17 before the team he played for from 2009-14 came to town. His 19 home runs this season ties a career high, while his 46 RBI leave him 11 shy of matching another personal best. He has been a solid four-category contributor for most of this season and a pleasant waiver-wire surprise for a number of mixed-league owners.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Russell should be able to return in a few days, but owners should continue to check the lineups to see when he will return. He is hitting .228 with seven home runs and 36 RBI this season and is a decent starting candidate in most leagues.

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (knee) is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma Saturday, July 23. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Thole does have four hits and four RBI in his last three games, but he probably should only be used in two-catcher leagues at this point.

Fantasy Tip: There is a good chance that Cashner is moved before the trade deadline, so owners should monitor the situation. He has allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts but still has a 4.79 ERA this season. He would still be a decent starting candidate if he is traded to the Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how Upton would be used if he is traded to the Blue Jays but probably would see decent playing time because he has played well this season. He would still be an attractive option in most leagues but would lose some value if he is not starting.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada (back) allowed two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three in a loss to Seattle Mariners Friday, July 22, in his first start after being activated from the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Estrada's back seemed to hold up just fine, and he should be save to deploy going forward.

Fantasy Tip: Sabathia, who turned 36 years old Thursday, is 5-8 with a 4.04 ERA through 17 starts this season and is 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA in four outings this month. His status as a 10-and-5 player gives him veto power over any potential deal and few teams would likely be willing to pay a sizable chunk of his remaining contract anyway, so expect the veteran lefty to stay put in the Bronx.

Fantasy Tip: The Blue Jays are expected to move SP Aaron Sanchez to the bullpen soon in an attempt to limit his innings this season, which explains their interest in Cashner. The 29-year-old right-hander has posted a 1.54 ERA over his last two starts, with no walks and 17 strikeouts through 11 2/3 innings, but should still be viewed as a matchup play in most fantasy formats.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) acknowledged that his toe isn't 100% yet, but he feels healthy enough to return to the majors after he finishes his rehab assignment with Class AAA Buffalo this weekend. He isn't concerned about returning and playing on the turf at Rogers Centre. Bautista is unsure if he'll immediately return to the outfield or serve as the designated hitter, and he was also non-committal about returning to the leadoff spot.
Fantasy Tip: Joey Bats wasn't helping his fantasy owners in average this year (.230), but his power remains intact with 12 home runs and 41 RBI in 235 at-bats. Bautista is a high-end outfielder in all leagues in a potent Toronto lineup, and he should be returned immediately to starting lineups if he's activated early next week. Ezequiel Carrera will be hurt the most by Bautista's return.

Fantasy Tip: Saunders recently left the club to attend to a personal manner, but with him back in the lineup, you can start him confidently in all fantasy formats Friday. For the season, Saunders owns a .286/.365/.528 slash line with 50 runs, 16 home runs and 43 RBI. He's a solid starter in all seasonal settings.
