Blue Jays | Danny Valencia in starting lineup

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 08:07:16 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Danny Valencia will start in left field against Detroit Tigers SP David Price Saturday, July 4, and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) likely is in the lineup since the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. He is hitting .377 with one home run and nine RBI against lefties this season. Valencia could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore, but owners could also look at other options.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello receives start

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 07:56:18 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Chris Colabello will start at first base against Detroit Tigers SP David Price Saturday, July 4, and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in six of his last eight games and has five RBI in that span. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using Colabello in their starting lineups.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello not starting Friday

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 13:01:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Chris Colabello is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 3, against the Detroit Tigers. OF Ezequiel Carrera is playing left field.

Fantasy Tip: Colabello ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is getting a normal night off, it appears, so go ahead and remove him for the evening. Carrera ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) carries less fantasy value than Colabello does so look elsewhere.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin not in Friday lineup

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 12:55:02 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 3, against the Detroit Tigers. C Dioner Navarro is catching instead.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is getting a night off with some other lineup switches taking place, including Edwin Encarnacion at designated hitter. Go ahead and use Navarro ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) in FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Cole Hamels doubtful to Toronto

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 06:15:47 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels seems unlikely to be willing to accept a trade to the Toronto Blue Jays. According to a source, Hamels has already told the Phillies he would rather not go to Toronto.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has a 3.22 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 106 1/3 innings, but his five wins limit his ceiling on FantasyScore. He's much more valuable in traditional formats because his team just doesn't score enough for him.

Blue Jays | Dioner Navarro not in vs. lefty

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 14:17:20 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Dioner Navarro is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miler Thursday, July 2. OF Danny Valencia is starting in left field and hitting seventh, with OF Chris Colabello playing first base.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) could pay off as a nice sleeper pick on FantasyScore tonight because of his .380/.415/.480 slash line with an .895 OPS against southpaws in 50 at-bats this year. However, none of his four home runs this year have come against left-handers.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista snaps skid

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:54:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI during the Jays' 11-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) was hitless over his previous 29 plate appearances entering the game, so it was a nice slump-busting afternoon for the slugger. Look for him to parlay the success into a nice hot streak and continue to view him as a solid outfield option in all fantasy formats.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson has another big day

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:42:29 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double, a home run and two RBI during the Blue Jays' 11-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) had a .200/.278/.308 slash line over his past 16 games with a single home run and four RBI, so the big stat line is a nice bounce back for seasonal owners. In favorable matchups, and especially against southpaws, Donaldson is an excellent FantasyScore target.

Blue Jays | Jose Reyes scores four times

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:35:21 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Jose Reyes went 4-for-5 with four runs during Toronto's 11-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Entering the game Wednesday, Reyes ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) had 19 runs, nine doubles, four home runs, 20 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .275/.318/.423 slash line over his 33 games since returning from the disabled list Modnay, May 25. He is second-tier shortstop option in the majority of formats and worth targeting at FantasyScore when the Blue Jays land in a favorable matchup.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak launches a pair of bombs

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:23:14 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak hit two home runs and went 3-for-4 with three RBI during the Blue Jays' 11-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been playing sparingly of late, and before Wednesday, he had just four starts and 21 plate appearances dating back to Saturday, June 13. His playing time limits his seasonal value, but he is a worthwhile FantasyScore option when in the lineup, especially with the Blue Jays pacing the league in runs.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion hits No. 17

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:16:42 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion hit his 17th home run and drove in three runs during the Blue Jays' 11-2 win over the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is also up to 50 RBI for the season, so returning another monster year in the home run and RBI columns looks likely for 2015. Still, he is sporting a .240/.322/.476 slash line and fantasy owners wouldn't mind some improvements there, especially in the batting average. FantasyScore players can start Encarnacion with confidence in favorable pitching matchups.

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez throwing

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 10:32:42 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez (back) threw off a mound for the first time Wednesday, July 1, since his injury and reported feeling fine after the session.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) appears that he could be headed for a relief role when he's ready to come off the DL. That would kill any fantasy value he has remaining. In deep mixed and AL-only leagues, continue holding him until it's more clear what Toronto plans to do with him.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista in a slump

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:29:19 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is hitless in his last 29 plate appearances with four strikeouts dating back to June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has seen his average drop to .236 (57-for-242) as a result, but he still has 15 home runs and 50 RBI on the season. The power is still there, but it looks like we're starting to see a decline in his skills at age 34. Until he starts to show some signs of life in his bat, you should consider avoiding him on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak draws into lineup

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 09:25:03 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is starting at first base and hitting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Wednesday, July 1. 1B Edwin Encarnacion is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has become somewhat of a forgotten man for the Blue Jays, and he had just 10 hits in 47 at-bats (.213) in the month of June with two home runs and nine RBI. However, he does have four of his five homers on the year against right-handers and has gone deep once in 11 career at-bats off Porcello. Smoak is a low-end sleeper pick if you're looking to stand out from your competitors.

Blue Jays | Chris Colabello with day off

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 07:46:56 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Chris Colabello is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 1, with OF Ezequiel Carrera hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has a solid .294 average, but he has just six extra-base hits. There's not a lot of substance there to use on FantasyScore.
