Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (back) returned to game action Thursday, March 26, after sitting out since Sunday, March 8. "I took a couple of swings today, didn't feel anything, so I feel ready to go," Encarnacion said.
Fantasy Tip: Over the past three seasons, Encarnacion ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) has emerged as a legit four-category fantasy contributor with an average of 86 runs, 37 home runs, 104 RBI and .274/.370/.546 slash line. Encarnacion will likely come off the board in Round 1 of drafts as a result. Consider him an excellent foundation for your seasonal team, and in favorable matchups, he is a sound starting point for FantasyScore lineups.

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) made his spring debut Thursday, March 26, pitching one inning and recording a strikeout. He said the plan is to take a couple days off, then pitch in back-to-back games and proceed from there.
Fantasy Tip: Over the past two seasons, Cecil has finished 29 games and recorded six saves with a 2.76 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and 146 strikeouts through 114 innings. He is expected to be ready for opening day and will serve as the closer. Currently, Cecil is a late-round bargain for saves, but expect his name to begin being called earlier and earlier in drafts as the season approaches, especially if there aren't any additional setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Viciedo ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) exhibited flashes with the Chicago White Sox. He hits for a low average and strikes out a lot, but he has 66 career homers in three seasons worth of at-bats. He could be a post-hype flyer worth using on FantasyScore the first couple of weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Saunders could miss the first couple of weeks. OF Dayan Viciedo ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) could be a cheap flyer worth considering during the first week on FantasyScore.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris added a new sinking changeup to his repertoire during his bullpen sessions this week, and he struck out Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones with the pitch twice Wednesday, March 25.
Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is battling for a rotation spot and appears likely to break camp with a starting gig. He has high-end strikeout potential and warrants attention as a late-round flier in the majority of formats. However, his 22 2/3 innings with Triple-A Buffalo and his 6 2/3 with Toronto last season are his only experience above Class AA, so he is extremely green. At his price, he'll make an excellent FantasyScore play, too.

Fantasy Tip: Again, the team is just taking a precaution with Encarnacion. Keep an eye on his progress, as Encarnacion's fantasy value could take a hit if the back issues flare up again.

Fantasy Tip: On top of his missed season last year due to knee injuries, this is getting to be a lost cause. What little fantasy value Izturis has is rapidly declining, so do not draft unless you have a very deep AL or mixed league.
Sun, 22 Mar 2015 07:33:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Estrada is competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, but his 9.39 ERA and 1.70 WHIP though 7 2/3 innings this spring aren't helping his case. More concerning is his 2.3 HR/9 mark this spring, as the long ball has plagued him throughout his career, and his new home ballpark won't help that any. Estrada is a fallback option for the fifth spot, and expect Daniel Norris and Aaron Sanchez to be the preferred options if the youngsters are ready. All three pitchers warrant AL-only attention if they land in the rotation, and Norris and Sanchez have upside in mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Cecil was considered the favorite for the job and now has been named the closer, but it is not known if he could lose the job if he struggles early. Owners could consider selecting Cecil in the later rounds of drafts since he is now a closer.

Toronto Blue Jays RP Brett Cecil (shoulder) is scheduled to pitch one inning in a minor league game Saturday, March 21, and will pitch in another game Tuesday, March 24, if things go well in his first outing.
Fantasy Tip: Cecil is still a candidate for the closer job, so owners should monitor his situation over the next few weeks. Owners could consider Cecil in the later rounds of drafts because of his save potential, but he is still a valuable pitcher even if he does not win the closer job.
Sat, 21 Mar 2015 07:28:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion still has a few weeks to prepare of the season and should be ready for opening day unless he suffers a setback. He should be an option in the first round in mixed leagues since he helps in multiple categories.

Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey might not start opening day, as he would then have to start the finale of the road series against the Baltimore Orioles, therefore eliminating him as an option for the first home series of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays. He has a 1.13 career WHIP and .626 opponent OPS against the Rays, a team he has dominated in his career.
Fantasy Tip: Look for Dickey to work in the second or third spot of Toronto's rotation so he is not the only one of the five starters to miss the Tampa Bay home opener series. And remember him in FantasyScore at $5,600 (or 11.2% of cap), as he usually fares well against Tampa.

The Toronto Blue Jays have not made it official, but it's hard to believe they will use SP Mark Buehrle as the opening day starter, or any time during the first road series against the New York Yankees. Buehrle owns a 1-14 lifetime mark against the Yankees with an ERA of 6.21 and a WHIP of 1.571 in 21 career starts. And since joining the Jays, he has a 6.82 ERA with a 1.545 WHIP against the Bronx Bombers.
Fantasy Tip: It is likely Buehrle will be held out of the Yankees series, pitching in the second road series of the season in Baltimore, a team he has fared a little better against in his career. FantasyScore owners need to file away his awful, awful history against the Yankees and avoid him at all costs.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison would then face the Yankees and Orioles in the first week of the season. At $5,000 (or 10.0% of cap) he isn't a bad start against the Yankees, especially since he'll likely have several punchouts win or lose. He posted a 2.54 ERA with a 0.872 WHIP in six starts with a .550 OPS against the O's last season, too, so remember him later in the first week.

Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris took another step towards securing a spot in the team's rotation, allowing just two singles in five scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League spring game against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, March 20.
Fantasy Tip: Norris struck out five batters and showed off a 94 mph fastball in the outing. He could be a nice FantasyScore option in season for his strikeouts if he can lock into a rotation job. His chances improved dramatically when Marcus Stroman went down for the season with a knee injury.
