Blue Jays | Jose Reyes off DL

Mon, 25 May 2015 12:35:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (ribs) was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Monday, May 25. In a corresponding move, SS Munenori Kawasaki was sent to Class AAA Buffalo.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should be left out of the lineup for a bit as he gets used to pitching, but otherwise he will be good to go sometime this week barring injury.

Blue Jays | Aaron Sanchez cutting down on walks

Mon, 25 May 2015 12:30:24 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez has cut down on walks in each of his five May starts. His walks have gone from six in the first May start all the way down to two.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is showing better control, but he is still a matchups pitcher because the Blue Jays have had trouble hitting for their starting rotation.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion finding power stroke

Sun, 24 May 2015 17:18:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk in an 8-2 win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, May 24, and he has three home runs in his last four games

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has seven RBIs during the same stretch, and eight of his 12 home runs have come this month. He is one of the premier power hitters in the game today, and he is worth paying up for at FantasyScore when he is enjoying a power surge.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista receives cortisone shot

Sun, 24 May 2015 12:00:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays OF/DH Jose Bautista (shoulder) was not in the starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners Sunday, May 24, because he had received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder. He has been unable to throw for several weeks due to a shoulder strain, limiting him to duties as a designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is expected to be sidelined again Monday, May 25, because it usually takes 48 to 72 hours for a player who has received a cortisone shot to return to action. There is no timetable for when he will resume playing in the field, although the Jays begin an interleague series against the Washington Nationals Monday, June 1, where they won't be allowed to use a DH.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin will hit second

Sun, 24 May 2015 07:40:55 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin will bat second in the order Sunday, May 24, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is 0-for-his-last-12 plate appearances, but he was 8-for-17 before that. With a premium spot in the lineup, Martin is one of the top catcher options on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista gets day off

Sun, 24 May 2015 07:34:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista will have the day off Sunday, May 24, against the Seattle Mariners. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will serve as the designated hitter, with 1B Justin Smoak getting the start in the field.

Fantasy Tip: Smoak ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 2-for-3 in his last three appearances as a pinch-hitter. Smoak went 1-for-4 in his most recent start at first base, but his upside is limited with only one extra-base hit on the season.

Blue Jays | Ryan Goins update

Sat, 23 May 2015 14:09:31 -0700

Updating a previous post, Toronto Blue Jays 2B Ryan Goins (ankle) twisted his left ankle while leaving the batter's box in the fifth inning Saturday, May 23, against the Seattle Mariners. Goins told reporters his ankle felt sore but "fine" and that he hoped to play Sunday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Goins ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) looks like he dodged a major bullet, but it may be best to sit him until he looks like there are no ill effects.

Blue Jays | Ryan Goins injured

Sat, 23 May 2015 14:03:06 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Ryan Goins (undisclosed injury) dropped to the ground in pain after hitting a ground ball and did not run to first base. He walked off the field under his own power.

Fantasy Tip: It was not immediately known what was up with Goins ($2,400, 4.8% of cap), but you may want him out of your lineup until more information is known about whether or not he will miss time.

Blue Jays | TOR inquired on Cole Hamels

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:39:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels was the subject of trade talks by the Toronto Blue Jays, but Hamels told Toronto he would not waive his no-trade clause.

Fantasy Tip: Hamels ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) is having a decent season, but there is no doubt he will be trade bait by midseason if not before. He continues to be a strong start nevertheless.

Blue Jays | Ezequiel Carrera not in lineup

Sat, 23 May 2015 07:52:55 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Ezequiel Carrera is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 23. OF Danny Valencia will play in left field for the team.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is sharing time at the position and should be in the starting lineup soon. Valencia ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is on a five-game hitting streak and has recorded four RBI in that span. Valencia could be a cheaper option for owners to consider.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson has calf issue

Fri, 22 May 2015 14:11:05 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (calf), who is taking the day off Friday, May 22, has been playing on a "bad calf," according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson's ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) appears minor, and he should be fine to return to the lineup tomorrow. Danny Valencia ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been playing well for the Jays, hitting .339 (20-for-59) with a home run and 10 RBI, but he should be avoided tonight at FantasyScore in a matchup against Seattle Mariners star Felix Hernandez.

Blue Jays | Devon Travis ready in 15 days?

Fri, 22 May 2015 14:06:15 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Devon Travis (shoulder), who received a cortisone shot for his ailing shoulder, is expected to be ready in 15 days when his disabled list stint is up, according to manager John Gibbons.

Fantasy Tip: Travis ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) slowed down offensively after his shoulder injury after a strong start in April. He will return to the starting keystone duties when he's back from the DL. In the meantime, Munenori Kawasaki and Steven Tolleson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) could split repetitions at second base. Both infielders are low-end FantasyScore plays, though.

Blue Jays | Munenori Kawasaki hitting ninth Friday

Fri, 22 May 2015 11:41:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Munenori Kawasaki is in the lineup Friday, May 22, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Steve Tolleson ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should be the regular starter with Devon Travis out due to a wrist injury, but it appears Tolleson is getting a night off. This is the season debut for Kawasaki, so hold off on starting him until you get a decent sample size.

Blue Jays | Ezequiel Carrera batting leadoff

Fri, 22 May 2015 11:35:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Ezequiel Carrera is in the leadoff spot Friday, May 22, against the Seattle Mariners.

Fantasy Tip: Carrera ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been placed in the leadoff spot repeatedly this season, but he is in a slump at the moment with a .167 average in his last week. Until he snaps out of it, Carrera should be avoided.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson out of lineup Friday

Fri, 22 May 2015 11:34:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 22. Danny Valencia is at third base and is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Donaldson ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has not had a single day off this season, so no better time than now to do it. Valencia ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has been a fairly successful low-cost alternative, with a .350 average (7-for-20) and one home run in his last six games.
