Falcons | Julio Jones out of team drills

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 07:55:59 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (undisclosed) is sitting out of team drills Friday, July 29.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a big concern this early in camp, though the nature of the injury remains unknown. Jones remains an elite option at the position to target in the first round of drafts.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu in tune with Matt Ryan

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 12:51:07 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu and QB Matt Ryan showed excellent chemistry Thursday, July 28. Ryan hit Sanu in stride and connected with the receiver on a number of timing throws where Sanu ran crisp routes.

Fantasy Tip: Sanu should open the season as the No. 2 wide receiver. However, his athleticism is nothing more than mediocre, and he'll have sophomore Justin Hardy to hold off. Sano is set to have a nice season in PPR settings, but expectations should still be kept in check, Hardy could prove to be more talented. Also, Atlanta will utilize their running backs in the passing game frequently, and Julio Jones will have a significant chunk of the target share. Sano is a low-end WR3 in PPR settings with even less value in standard formats.

Falcons | Austin Hooper will be featured in camp

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 12:43:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper made at least three difficult catches over the middle and near the sideline Thursday, July 28.

"He's one that we're going to take a close look at all the way through camp here," head coach Dan Quinn said Thursday. "We missed a good bit of the OTAs with him (at school); he was able to participate in the minicamp. We're going to feature him in and find out all he can do. We're going to put him on the line, we're going to put him off the line, we're going to put him on the move."

Fantasy Tip: Rookie tight ends rarely become dependable fantasy options in their freshman year, so Hooper is best left to dynasty setups in 2016. However, he's a player to watch over the coming weeks, and could enter the TE2 conversation leading into the season.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman utilized in passing game

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 12:31:44 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman ran a number of passing route during 11-on-11 drills Thursday, July 28.

"They're finding more ways to get the backs out there and get them the ball," Coleman said. "So it's going to be exciting for us to be back there and get the ball more than just running. Any way I get the ball is any way I get the ball. It doesn't matter if I'm catching the ball, running the ball, receiving a kickoff anything. (If) I got the ball, I'm going make something happen."

Fantasy Tip: Coleman is an upside target later in drafts. While he's behind Devonta Freeman on the depth chart, Coleman will be involved in the offense, and in the event of a Freeman injury, Coleman would elevate to being a weekly starting option. He also has enough standalone value behind a healthy Freeman, that Coleman can be a flex option or low-end RB2 during bye weeks.

Falcons | Julio Jones will practice Friday

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 12:19:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (undisclosed) will return to practice Friday, July 29, but head coach Dan Quinn would not disclose the nature of Jones' injury.

"He had a little tweak, so we just decided to hold (him). He'll likely be back in there for tomorrow. He could have gone back in today and was asking me to, but I decided not to."

Fantasy Tip: Jones is an elite fantasy option who projects to be selected in the first half of Round 1 of drafts. He has an extremely high floor given his 240 catches over the past two seasons with over 1,500 receiving yards in each campaign. However, there is also upside for better fantasy production if Jones can find the end zone more frequently. He's only scored 14 touchdowns the past two years, after all.

Falcons | Julio Jones limps off

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 08:04:21 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (undisclosed) left practice hobbled Thursday, July 28, and is flexing his legs on the sideline.

Fantasy Tip: Jones is one of the best players in fantasy and should be taken early in the first round in most formats. It doesn't sound serious, but we'll keep you posted.

Falcons | Tevin Coleman set to return kickoffs

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 10:48:06 -0700

Atlanta Falcons RB Tevin Coleman will receive a shot at being the primary kickoff returner, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

"It was the ability to break the long runs and the explosive plays and his ability to stick his foot in the ground and go," Quinn said Tuesday, July 26. "And the guys who go, 'I want to make a bigger difference, I want to make an impact on the team.' He's the one that wanted to start if off and say, 'There is more I can do. When a player has something to prove with a chip on his shoulder… that's certainly the way he's approached this off season and I've admired that."

Fantasy Tip: Coleman is an intriguing back to target later in drafts as a depth option. He's currently clearly behind Devonta Freeman, but keeping Coleman involved in the offense will be a priority. In the event of a Freeman injury, Coleman would elevate to being a weekly starting option, and Coleman also has standalone value alongside a healthy Freeman. In leagues including return yards, this is also a bonus for Coleman.

Falcons | Devin Hester released

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 07:22:10 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Devin Hester was released Tuesday, July 26.

Fantasy Tip: Hester had a 38-504-2 line last season, and the sand in his fantasy hourglass is wearing thin at age 33.

Falcons | Several Falcons competing for return job

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:51:16 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WRs Devin Fuller, Aldrick Robinson and Eric Weems and RBs Tevin Coleman and Terron Ward are all under consideration to serve as the team's primary returner on kickoffs and punts if WR Devin Hester (toe) is unable to return to form in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Hester underwent surgery on his right big toe during the offseason and is still considered the favorite to return kicks and punts in 2016. Aside from his contributions on special teams, however, he doesn't offer much from a fantasy standpoint. Of the remaining players competing for the role, Weems has the most experience as a return man and would likely win the job if Hester is unable to be as effective as he was prior to getting injured.

Falcons | Akeem King working to make transition

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:57:02 -0700

Atlanta Falcons CB Akeem King continues to make the transition from wide receiver in college to cornerback in the pros. King is considered raw, but expected to have an opportunity to win a starting job during training camp and the preseason.

Falcons | Austin Hooper is solid blocker

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 22:55:54 -0700

Atlanta Falcons TE Austin Hooper drew comparison to fellow Stanford alum and current New Orleans Saints TE Coby Fleener when coming out of college. However, he is viewed as a much better blocker, and the rookie should help spring RB Devonta Freeman in the run game.

Fantasy Tip: Hooper is likely to have a big role in Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme, but look for the rookie to only be useful in the deepest of fantasy leagues initially. He is likely to be used to block more than see actual targets and receptions.

Falcons | Mohamed Sanu bonding with QB

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:14:36 -0700

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu has bonded with QB Matt Ryan, working together at Ryan's passing camp in Orlando, and throughout June minicamp. The duo built chemistry as the practices wore on. "He's got great hands," Ryan said. "One of the things I noticed right from the start is how strong his hands are. He's a really good worker. I think he can really help us."

Fantasy Tip: Sanu will step into the role vacated by veteran Roddy White. He has never posted more than 790 receiving yards in a season, but that should change in 2016. If not, he will be a huge fantasy bust since he shouldn't slip past the middle rounds in most formats on draft day.
