Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Andrus was dealing with soreness and sat out last night. He's been very productive this year down in the order, hitting .293 with no home runs, 13 RBI and one stolen base. Andrus really only contributes in average and runs these days, though, so his ceiling is limited in daily formats.

Fantasy Tip: This was by far Holland's worst start of 2016 and the first outing this season where he did not make it through at least six innings. He will look to bounce back in his next start versus the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: DeShields, hitting .239 with three stolen bases, continues to see his role diminish as he struggles at the plate. He had recently been banished to the bottom of the order, too, where his stolen base prowess won't blossom. Rua has a very limited ceiling and is strictly a deep sleeper in daily setups if you're looking to save some cash.

Fantasy Tip: Ho hum. Hamilton's injuries history is extensive, and he's not close to returning to the Rangers at all. He'll likely be in some sort of platoon role if he does play at all this year, and his fantasy value is extremely limited to basically AL-only leagues. Let someone else stash him.

Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus (back, hamstring) had wraps on his back and hamstring Wednesday, May 4, and he is out of the lineup Thursday, May 5. 2B Hanser Alberto is hitting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ.
Fantasy Tip: Andrus' injuries seem to be minor, but you should keep an eye on him to see how he responds. Alberto is hitting .118 (2-for-17) and is a daily option to avoid against Happ, who is off to a great start in 2016.

Texas Rangers SP A.J. Griffin, who missed two years due to Tommy John surgery, has a 2.32 ERA and opponents are hitting only .180 off of him. His curveball has been a difference-maker this year, with opponents recording just two hits in 22 at-bats ending with that pitch this year.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin isn't generating a ton of fantasy buzz because of his lack of strikeouts (7.5 K's per nine innings), but his fine start should be turning heads at least in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He's pitching so well that Texas is considering a six-man rotation once Yu Darvish (elbow) returns later this month.

Fantasy Tip: Mazara is hitting .280 (7-for-25) during his six-game run, actually dropping his overall batting average slightly. He remains a solid fantasy option due to his consistency at the plate. He is getting regular playing time and running with it.
Wed, 04 May 2016 19:49:20 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Odor has managed four multi-hit games over his past five outings, raising his average from .244 to .283 just since April 29. He has logged eight doubles, four homers and 16 RBIS in 106 at-bats, and is a fantasy stud in the middle infield among all formats.

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder went hitless in four at-bats with a strikeout Wednesday, May 4, against the Toronto Blue Jays to drop his overall average to .202. The hitless game snaps his modest five-game hitting streak.
Fantasy Tip: Fielder continues to struggle, and he has no RBIs in the month of May with a very subpar .560 OPS overall this season. He will continue to see regular at-bats, so fantasy owners need to stick with him, but two homers through 28 games is not exactly what anyone had in mind.
Wed, 04 May 2016 19:47:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Lewis has been magnificent lately, posting three straight quality starts while going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA over his past 20 innings during the three-game span. He has lasted at least six innings in each of his outings this season, posting five quality starts. He isn't quite a must-start in mixed formats because of his low rate of strikeouts, but he is a strong play in AL-only and DFS leagues.
Wed, 04 May 2016 14:31:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: DeShields' fantasy allure is dropping quickly, as he's hitting just .239/.316/.307 with one home run and three stolen bases in 88 at-bats. He's also been relegated to the bottom of the order lately, which limits his fantasy upside. DeShields' is mainly an asset for his speed, but hitting low in the order hurts his ability to do so. Rua is a low-end outfield option in daily games tonight.
Wed, 04 May 2016 12:05:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Nicholas was 9-for-35 with a respectable .876 OPS, but Texas also has Bryan Holaday and Bobby Wilson to work behind the plate. Holaday and Wilson project to split starts at catcher, but neither boast much fantasy appeal. Holaday has a career .238/.276/.319 slash line, and Wilson owns a career .203/.266/.299 line. They're both desperation options in deep seasonal leagues.
Tue, 03 May 2016 23:25:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Odor has managed three multi-hit games over the past four outings, raising his average from .244 to .277 just since April 30. He is on a roll and a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues and most deeper mixed formats.
Tue, 03 May 2016 23:25:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Perez lowered his ERA to 3.60. He has a decent 1.37 WHIP with 18 strikeouts over 35 innings. Perez is a decent fantasy option in AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats, but don't expect a lot of strikeouts.
Tue, 03 May 2016 20:47:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gallo has some of the biggest power in the minors and was a popular stash option. It looks like he may not surface in the bigs until closer to the All-Star break. If you need the roster spot in mixed leagues, cut him. He should be held onto in AL-only leagues.
