Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) played five innings in the outfield Wednesday, May 6, at the Rangers' spring training facilities in Surprise, Arizona. Hamilton will take batting practice against Rangers SP Matt Harrison Thursday, May 7.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is worth adding now in deeper mixed leagues or mid-sized AL-only leagues. It had previously been reported that Hamilton will likely hit second in the order against right-handed pitchers, giving Hamilton plenty of opportunity to become a fantasy asset once again.

Fantasy Tip: With Martin out at least a couple more days, Delino DeShields Jr. ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will become a lineup regular in center field most likely. He's at the bottom of the order Wednesday night, though, and he's not attractive to FantasyScore players.

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin (wrist) is wearing a brace after spraining his wrist Monday, May 4. Manager Jeff Bannister indicated Martin's comfort level will be tested if he misses more than five days, at which point the team may consider placing him on the disabled list. OF Delino DeShields Jr. got the start in center field Tuesday, May 5, against the Houston Astros.
Fantasy Tip: DeShields Jr. ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will hit out of the eighth spot in the batting order, limiting his potential on FantasyScore. Owners should stay away until they see some positive signs.

Fantasy Tip: Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) could probably use a breather, has he's hitting .221 (23-for-104) with one home run and eight RBI this year. While he sits out, Delino DeShields Jr. ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-end sleeper candidate for an outfield spot.

Fantasy Tip: Moreland ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) hopes to be back by mid-May at the earliest, but will he have a position? Kyle Blanks ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .316 at the moment and could take away some playing time.
Mon, 04 May 2015 21:22:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Martin will be forced to miss time, but FantasyScore players should avoid Martin ($4,000; 8.0% of cap) until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is expected to hit second upon his return to the lineup, at least against right-handed starting pitchers. The team has had zero effective options in the two-hole to this point.
Fantasy Tip: At just $2,800 (or 5.6% of cap) he could be a decent FantasyScore sleeper if he returns anything close to the form he showed before he left Arlington as a free agent.

Texas Rangers 2B Rougned Odor, who is being benched Monday, May 4, is a candidate to have multiple days off or be demoted to the minors. Odor is in a 6-for-49 slump and is batting only .148 on the year, which is the fifth lowest qualifying batting average in the American League. 2B Adam Rosales replaced Odor Monday, May 4.
Fantasy Tip: Steer clear of Odor in all fantasy formats, including at FantasyScore, for the time being. In shallow mixed leagues, don't feel the need to keep him on your roster. Rosales ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) figures to play second more often with Odor struggling, but he's a low-end outfield target in daily games. Consider Rosales in really deep AL-only leagues if you own Odor or are hurting at a middle infield spot.

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo will get a lengthy look at the leadoff spot, with OF Leonys Martin dropped in the order, according to manager Jeff Bannister. Martin was 5-for-26 (.192) on the team's homestand and hasn't walked in the last nine games. He has been dropped to eighth in the order.
Fantasy Tip: Choo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) broke out of his long slump this weekend, and Texas hopes he can carry that momentum with him into the leadoff spot. Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to be avoided at FantasyScore, especially with his drop in the lineup. Both players are facing a tough left-handed starter tonight in Houston Astros starter Dallas Keuchel.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) played in an extended spring training game in Arizona Monday, May 4, and hit grounders in his first three at-bats and then struck out. He played three innings in left field, as well. General manager Jon Daniels said Hamilton could start a minor league rehab assignment in roughly a week, and he'll join Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers continue to receive positive reports on Hamilton's rehab from shoulder surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) could be an option for the Rangers later this month if he doesn't have any setbacks. He'll likely immediately move into a starting role in the outfield and be a much-needed addition to the offense. Texas could choose to ease him back in eventually, though, so it'd likely be smart to take a wait-and-see approach at FantasyScore.
Mon, 04 May 2015 14:12:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Avoid Rosales ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) in all daily games Monday night. Keuchel comes into the game with an ERA under 1.00 on the season.
Mon, 04 May 2015 14:08:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: While Choo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) showed signs of life and broke out of a long slump over the weekend, he should be avoided against Keuchel tonight at FantasyScore. Martin ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is hitting only .223 (23-for-103) with one home run and eight RBI on the year. He was a candidate to avoid already while slumping, and his drop in the order only cements that.
Sun, 03 May 2015 11:15:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Robinson Chirinos ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is being given the day off after catching last night's game. Corporan ($1,800, 3.9% of cap) is a low-cost option behind the plate for FantasyScore owners who would rather spend money at other positions.
Sat, 02 May 2015 10:08:43 -0700
Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is expected to work out at the club's spring training facility in Arizona for approximately 10 days before beginning a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock. If all goes well, he could be activated from the disabled list during the second half of the month.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) fantasy value increased upon his return to Texas and he is worthy of being stashed in most formats. However, FantasyScore owners should avoid using him until he has proven that he can be productive at the plate again.
Fri, 01 May 2015 13:56:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Choo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was given several days off to work on some things after starting the year hitting .096 (5-for-52). A slow start says you should continue to avoid him at FantasyScore, and facing a difficult southpaw in Kazmir makes it a no-brainer.
