Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has had a fine season with Texas, but he's allowed five runs in each of his last two starts to raise his ERA on the year to 3.19. He's due for regression in the second half, so pick and choose your matchups with him on FantasyScore. A move out of Texas wouldn't be a bad thing for his fantasy value for the remainder of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Andrus ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been hitting lower in the lineup, so this is a nice fantasy boost, and it improves his runs scored upside. Over his past 15 games, Andrus has a .310 batting average with six runs and eight RBI. He stands as a sneaky value play at shortstop for FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Texas Rangers SP Yovani Gallardo could still be traded, and the team is open to the idea even after acquiring SP Cole Hamels, a source said Wednesday, July 29. Gallardo is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday, July 30, against the New York Yankees.
Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players likely want to avoid Gallardo ($6,800, 13.6% of cap), as he could be a late scratch.

The Texas Rangers are close to acquiring SP Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are believed to be receiving minor league C Jorge Alfaro and SP Jerad Eickhoff in return.
Fantasy Tip: Despite moving to the American League, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) would receive a boost pitching for a contender. He makes a strong No. 2 fantasy starter and is a solid FantasyScore option in most games. Alfaro is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for Class AA Frisco and is considered one of the organization's top prospects. Eickhoff is 9-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) for Frisco and Class AAA Round Rock.

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.
Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Fantasy Tip: Ross and Cashner could easily still be dealt before the deadline Friday, so stay tuned. Moving out of pitcher-friendly Petco Park to an environment like Texas would probably be hurtful to their fantasy value, however. Owners in AL-only leagues should be saving valuable FAAB money for impact talent to cross over soon.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels isn't close to being traded to the Texas Rangers, as the two teams aren't anywhere close to an agreement on who Texas would give up for the left-hander. The Rangers refuse to trade their top prospects.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) won't be traded until later this week, and it might come right down to the deadline Friday afternoon. The Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers have been seen as the favorites, but it's anyone's guess as to where he might land. Hamels will remain a fantasy ace and should gain even more value with a move out of Philly.

Updating an ongoing story, Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels' trade destinations are lead by the Texas Rangers. The Los Angeles Dodgers prefer Detroit Tigers SP David Price because they feel they can re-sign him.
Fantasy Tip: In yearly formats, you'll want to see how everything shakes out before jumping to any conclusions. Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) receives a nice boost leaving Philadelphia, but it might not be enough of an upgrade to elevate him into consistent fantasy ace. Instead, view him as a strong No. 2 arm for your virtual rotation. Price ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) will remain a high-end fantasy starter, and he would receive a big boon to his fantasy stock moving to the National League and starting for a better team.

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (shoulder) made it through a bullpen session Monday, July 27, without any issues, and he is still scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday, July 30. Holland is expected to begin at two innings and 30 pitches, but the Rangers haven't announced any details.
Fantasy Tip: Holland ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is still a long way from a return, and he should be left on waiver wires in everything but deeper AL-only leagues.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 16:50:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: While Rua ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is typically one to avoid on FantasyScore, he faces a juicy matchup against Capuano tonight and could come in handy as a deep sleeper. Despite a .179 (7-for-39) average against lefties in 2015, Rua has hit two of his three home runs off them this year.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 13:49:12 -0700
Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder is 4-for-11 with two home runs in his career off of New York Yankees SP Chris Capuano, who he faces Tuesday, July 27. Fielder is hitting .412 with five home runs and 18 RBI during his 12-game hitting streak against the Yankees.
Fantasy Tip: We don't typically recommend lefty hitters against southpaws, but this may be an exception. Fielder has a .287 average and .835 OPS with seven of his 15 home runs against lefties in 2015, and Capuano shouldn't strike fear in Fielder tonight.
Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:46:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is in a favorable lineup spot as a value play tonight on FantasyScore, and he has 10 of his 12 home runs this year against right-handed pitchers. The fact that he has eight hits in his last 20 at-bats (.400) with a home run and seven RBI since July 18 is another reason to consider Choo tonight.
Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:41:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Martin ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has struggled mightily this season and has five hits in 28 at-bats (.179) in July with only one RBI. His struggles at the dish have made him a bench player of late, too. He's not a good daily pick until he shows signs of breaking his slump.
Sun, 26 Jul 2015 11:33:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is only hitting .222 versus lefties this season and .218 during the month of July, making him a risky play in FantasyScore this afternoon.
Sun, 26 Jul 2015 11:32:58 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Telis ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 2-for-6 with one RBI this season and is a career .257 hitter. Unless you are in desperate need of FantasyScore salary cap relief, avoid using him.
