The Texas Rangers catchers entered the game Tuesday, April 15, against the Seattle Mariners hitting just .114. That's tied for the second lowest at any position for an American League team. The Minnesota Twins shortstop are hitting a collective .105, and the Houston Astros designated hitters are also sitting at .114.

He might have another bullpen session Wednesday, April 16, and he could do fielding drills then.

Rangers | Matt Harrison not happy with outing

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 19:37:52 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) allowed three runs, six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 3 1/3 innings in his second minor-league rehab outing for Double-A Frisco Monday, April 14. "It just wasn't a good night," Harrison said. "Forty-five degrees weather, the wind was blowing. I let a lot of things get in my head. Going up there, getting rained out, sitting around, freezing weather - I just wasn't motivated." Harrison is scheduled to pitch Saturday, April 19, for Frisco or Triple-A Round Rock, and the goal is to throw 95 pitches. The team will then determine whether he's ready to be activated.

Rangers | Prince Fielder not worried with slow start

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 15:29:00 -0700

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder isn't worried one bit about his slow start to the season with his new squad. Fielder has nine hits (three doubles) in 51 at-bats for a .176 average. The longest he's gone in his career to start a season without a home run was 14 games. He doesn't expect to change his approach to account for opposing defenses using a shift against him, though.

Fantasy Tip: It's not the start you invisioned as his owner, either, but it's still very early in the season. Be patient and give him time to settle in before hitting the panic button.

Rangers | Matt Harrison not happy with rehab start

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 15:25:25 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) said his rehab start for Double-A Frisco Monday, April 14, was not a success because he didn't have his breaking pitch in poor weather conditions.

Fantasy Tip: The main takeaway is that Harrison got through the outing without a setback. He'll likely have a few more rehab starts, at least, but look for him to return to the Rangers in a few weeks.

Rangers | Yu Darvish fine

Mon, 14 Apr 2014 16:27:14 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (thumb) said his right thumb is fine and doesn't expect it to be an issue for his next start against the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, April 16. Darvish cut his right thumb during his last start while throwing a curveball. "Even when I was throwing it didn't hurt me," said Darvish. "I've done this so many times that probably the nerve isn't working anymore so it didn't hurt me at all."

Fantasy Tip: Keep Darvish in your starting lineup for Wednesday's outing.

Rangers | Alexi Ogando could see save opps

Mon, 14 Apr 2014 16:08:01 -0700

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington is adamant that RP Joakim Soria remains as the team's closer, but RP Alexi Ogando could see some opportunities to close games out in the ninth in save situations. Washington noted that Soria's command hasn't been that sharp of late, as the closer threw 29 pitches Friday, April 11. Washington has been impressed with Ogando this past week. "We've given him three or four opportunities to close games over his time here and he's closed all of them," Washington said. "We'll just have to wait and see. I'm not anointing him my closer when I've got Soria, but he will get some chance to close some games."

Fantasy Tip: Don't confuse this with closer controversy. Instead, consider Ogando the primary saves handcuff to Soria in the event the incumbent is injured or continues to struggle with his control. Ogando should be snatched up in all AL-only leagues, at least.

Rangers | Adrian Beltre not happy with DL move

Mon, 14 Apr 2014 14:36:53 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (quadriceps) didn't agree with the club's decision to put him on the disabled list Sunday, April 13, and he wanted to attempt to play Tuesday, April 15. "You want my honest opinion?" Beltre said. "I did not agree with the decision. It was out of my hands. Obviously the medical staff and the front office thought it was best. It's out of my hands. I have no say over that. I was ready to play tomorrow. But obviously it's not going to happen." Beltre is dealing with a Grade 1 strain of his quadriceps muscle. He will be eligible to return April 25.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers made the right move most likely with Beltre. The combination of his age and past leg injuries forced their hand. Losing Beltre for longer than two weeks could be crippling to this offense and your fantasy squad.

Rangers | Joakim Soria available for save

Mon, 14 Apr 2014 14:01:45 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Joakim Soria will pitch in the ninth if a save situation arises Monday, April 14. RP Alexi Ogando recorded the save Sunday, April 13, because Soria had pitched in the two games prior. Washington said Ogando will receive chances to close, but Soria remains the team's closer.

Fantasy Tip: Ogando presumably will get chances to record saves when Soria is unavailable due to heavy workloads. That doesn't mean you should run out to the waiver wire to grab Ogando, unless he's available in your AL-only league. If Soria is injured, however, Ogando figures to be next in line.
