Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: At minimum, Gallo will have a two-week audition to prove his bat is ready for the majors. Adrian Beltre (thumb) is expected to miss two weeks, and with nearly everyday playing time, Gallo has fleeting value in the majority of fantasy formats. Should he take the job and run with it, the Rangers could manipulate their lineup to find him at-bats once Beltre returns. He has to prove he deserves to stick first, though. There is little doubt his power upside is legit.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo is worthy of a speculative grab in all formats, especially for teams lacking in the home run department. He has nine homers in 121 at-bats with Frisco, after launching 40 and 42 over two levels in each of 2013 and 2014, respectively. Still, he has struck out in 33.6% of his plate appearances this season and adjusting to major league pitching could prove to be an issue. Plus, his value may only be fleeting. Keep your expectations in check, but the upside is there.

Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder, who leads the American League with a .359 average and is fifth with a .975 OPS, has showed more leadership with Texas this year, and he's serving as a mentor to OF Delino DeShields Jr. and RP Keone Kela, according to team officials.
Fantasy Tip: Fielder ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) was scorching hot in May (.377-9-28) and has proven that his injury last year is behind him. He should continue to be a very strong FantasyScore option this season.

Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) threw a bullpen session Sunday, May 31, and he's scheduled to make a rehab start with Class AAA Round Rock Wednesday, June 3, which will be exactly a year after his spinal fusion surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Harrison has had a long road to recovery, and it'll be a mystery as to whether he can return to the Texas rotation and be effective. The odds are that he won't provide much for fantasy owners, so he's a stash candidate strictly in deep AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Gallo has as much power potential as any prospect in baseball, and you should look to acquire him in mixed leagues in case this scenario plays out. He's hitting .313 with nine homers and 31 RBI at Class AA Frisco.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) certainly seems to be enjoying his return to Texas. He hit a pair of homers Saturday, and came off the bench to win the game Sunday. When happy and healthy, Hamilton has been an MVP-caliber player, and he offers great upside for his current price at FantasyScore.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (thumb) is expected to miss two weeks with a sprained and lacerated thumb he suffered Sunday, May 31, against the Boston Red Sox. 2B Adam Rosales replaced Beltre at third.
Fantasy Tip: Beltre ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) should be stashed away immediately until he is 100%. Rosales ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should see plenty of playing time in Beltre's absence and should be a solid alternative. Joey Gallo, Beltre's presumed heir apparent at third, has played outfield in the minors; there is a chance Gallo could get called up but the team may want to leave him in the minors and keep his arbitration clock from starting.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is getting his first day off since being activated from the disabled list Monday, May 25. He is hitting .238 with two home runs and three RBIs through his first six games of the season. Remove him from all FantasyScore lineups.
Sun, 31 May 2015 11:28:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This will be Alberto's second consecutive start at the keystone position after playing shortstop in his major league debut Friday, May 29. He is 2-for-7 with three RBIs through his first two MLB games.
Sun, 31 May 2015 11:21:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The light-hitting Corporan ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is only batting .172 through 20 games this season, with one home run and five RBIs. Robinson Chirinos ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is getting the day off and should be removed from all lineups.

Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez allowed no runs and one hit while striking out two and walking five against the Boston Red Sox in his major league debut Saturday, May 30. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzlaez's control wasn't great, but he more than held his own in his first start. He is expected to receive at least a few more starts, and it is worth checking out his price tag when he is added to the player pool at FantasyScore.
Sat, 30 May 2015 14:08:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: DeShields ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is hitting .264 with 11 steals, but he has just one stolen base in the last 10 days. There probably isn't enough there to warrant the start on FantasyScore.
Fri, 29 May 2015 21:06:36 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tolleson has allowed no runs and just two hits in his six saves, and his grip on the closer's role is becoming stronger by the outing.
Fri, 29 May 2015 20:51:42 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) homers were his first two of the season, and they were a reminder of the type of production he is capable of. Expect his production to fluctuate, but Hamilton makes an intriguing upside play at FantasyScore at his current price.
Fri, 29 May 2015 17:03:29 -0700
Texas Rangers SP Alex Gonzalez will remain in the starting rotation past his start Saturday, May 30. SP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) will join the bullpen when he is activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has not been dominant in Class AAA but will receive several starts with the Rangers. Owners should see how Gonzalez pitches in a game or two before considering adding him to their roster or using him on FantasyScore.
