Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Beltre's ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) injury appeared serious, and the fact he wasn't originally in the starting lineup should be fair warning that he isn't 100%. Third base is a deep position, so FantasyScore players should view Beltre as a risky start in contests Monday.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (back) is slightly improved but isn't ready to start. He took swings in the cages Sunday, Oct. 11, and received more treatment Monday, Oct. 12. Manager Jeff Bannister said running is "most problematic" for Beltre. Beltre hasn't played since straining his back sliding into second base in Game 1 of the division series against the Toronto Blue Jays last Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Beltre's ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) injury looked pretty serious, so it might be a stretch to expect him to return in the division series. Depending on how he improves if the Rangers advance to the Championship Series, he could be a risky daily selection then, too.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (back) remains out of the lineup for Game 4 of the division series against the Toronto Blue Jays Monday, Oct. 12. 3B Hanser Alberto starts again at the hot corner and is batting ninth against Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.
Fantasy Tip: Alberto ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is useful for salary cap relief, but that's about it. He has two hits in his 10 at-bats since filling in for the injured Beltre in the division series.

Fantasy Tip: Holland ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) is a pretty big gamble as your second starter on FantasyScore today against the Blue Jays, who had the highest OPS in the league this year against left-handed hurlers.

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin declined to report to the Rangers' instructional facilities in Arizona over the weekend. Martin was one of many players asked to report and work out in case the club needed extra players for the postseason, but general manager Jon Daniels said Martin "apparently was miffed" over being left off the playoff roster in the first place.
Fantasy Tip: Martin ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) lost his job in the outfield to Delino DeShields late in the season, and he shouldn't be in your lineup either. Not only will Martin not be in the roster for the rest of the playoffs (most likely), Martin may be finished as a Ranger.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton snapped an 0-for-31 postseason drought with a one-out single in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Sunday, Oct. 11. He then added another hit two innings later against the Toronto Blue Jays. His last hit had been a single in the first inning of Game 7 of the 2011 World Series for Texas.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) had been in a funk as of late, and whether he has broken out of it remains to be seen. He is a career .500 hitter (4-for-8) against R.A. Dickey, Toronto's Game 4 starter, so it may be worth spending a little cap money in FantasyScore.

Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez lost Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Sunday, Oct. 11, as he dropped a 5-1 decision to the Toronto Blue Jays. Perez gave up four runs and six hits while pitching into the sixth inning.
Fantasy Tip: Granted, Perez ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) surrendered only one big mistake, and that was Troy Tulowitzki's three-run homer. All in all, it wasn't a bad outing. Still, Perez doesn't carry as much weight as a pitcher like Cole Hamels does in FantasyScore circles, so be cautious.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (back) is out of the starting lineup for Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, Oct. 11. 3B Hanser Alberto is in the starting lineup again.
Fantasy Tip: Beltre ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) will get a good rest if the Rangers win Sunday and sweep the Blue Jays. Otherwise, stay tuned to see if he is in the Game 4 lineup on Monday. Alberto has no FantasyScore value but he had a hit and drove in two runs in Game 2.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners should avoid using Beltre ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) in Game 3 Sunday, Oct. 11, even if he is cleared to play, so that he can demonstrate that he is fully healthy. With the Rangers being up 2-0 in the series against Toronto, the team might not have as much urgency to rush him back into the lineup.

Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits over seven innings in Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, Oct. 9, with no walks and six strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Although Hamels ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) ended up with a no-decision, the Rangers improved to 11-0 in his last 11 outings. If he makes another start in this series, he will be a somewhat risky FantasyScore play because of Toronto's high-powered offense.
Fri, 09 Oct 2015 17:26:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Despite the Rangers participating in a 14-inning contest against the Jays Friday, Oct. 9, Beltre ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) did not see action in Game 2. FantasyScore owners should probably avoid using him regardless of his status for Game 3, especially given his hefty price tag.
Fri, 09 Oct 2015 17:25:23 -0700
Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 2 of the American League Division Series Friday, Oct. 9. He is hitless in his last 30 postseason at-bats.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitless in 10 at-bats in this series and should not be used in FantasyScore for the time being.

Updating previous reports, Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (back) has drastically improved from his back strain, but that means he's able to walk right now, according to manager Jeff Banister. Beltre had a cortisone injection after he left the game Thursday, Oct. 8, and a numbing agent injection. However, the numbing agent wasn't placed in the right spot. He had an MRI that identified where the strain is, and the team hopes he'll feel better in 24 hours once the cortisone injection settles.
Fantasy Tip: Beltre ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) is questionable for Game 3 against Marco Estrada. He's a risky play on FantasyScore the rest of the series because the issue can flare up at any time.
Fri, 09 Oct 2015 06:31:48 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Moreland ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) hit .231 with a solo homer in Rogers Centre this year and is a midrange 1B option on FantasyScore against Marcus Stroman.
Fri, 09 Oct 2015 06:31:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Alberto ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) isn't a good option against Marcus Stroman on FantasyScore.
