Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is expected to work out at the club's spring training facility in Arizona for approximately 10 days before beginning a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock. If all goes well, he could be activated from the disabled list during the second half of the month.
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) fantasy value increased upon his return to Texas and he is worthy of being stashed in most formats. However, FantasyScore owners should avoid using him until he has proven that he can be productive at the plate again.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was given several days off to work on some things after starting the year hitting .096 (5-for-52). A slow start says you should continue to avoid him at FantasyScore, and facing a difficult southpaw in Kazmir makes it a no-brainer.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (shoulder) pleased the Rangers with his first two days of baseball activity, and he could return in late May. Hamilton reported to the team in good shape and promised to return a smarter player that avoids unnecessary risks. "It's continuing to know the situation in games, when it's important to give your body up and when it's not," Hamilton said. "I have to be smarter and keep my body off the ground as much as possible."
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton's fantasy promise improved with the move to the Texas heat. He should be stashed on the DL until he returns.

Texas Rangers 1B Kyle Blanks, who was called up from the minors earlier in the day, is starting at first base and hitting seventh in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Wednesday, April 29.
Fantasy Tip: Blanks will be a cheap FantasyScore option with Mitch Moreland (elbow) on the disabled list. He's worth a look in deep AL-only leagues for his fleeting value, but he won't help you in average, and he has only hit double-digit home runs once back in 2009. Avoid him in daily games Wednesday against King Felix.

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 29. OF Carlos Peguero is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez.
Fantasy Tip: Choo is mired in a terrible slump to start the year and is likely receiving a couple days off to work on his swing mechanics and get his head right. Peguero ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is not an attractive option for FantasyScore users against King Felix tonight.

Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (elbow) will undergo surgery Wednesday, April 29, to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. "I'd probably miss more time two or three days at a time trying to wait it out than we would just than we would just going ahead and getting it out," Moreland said. "Being back in a couple of weeks, I think that's the plan going in and cleaning up the bone chips and being ready to go at that 15-day mark." 1B Kyle Blanks is likely to come up from Triple-A Round Rock.
Fantasy Tip: Blanks has good power, and now that he's out of San Diego and in the Arlington jet stream, he's a player to watch.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 21:16:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Blanks has been flexing his muscle on the farm, hitting .327 with three homers and 11 RBIs for the Express. He could be a cheap source of power for FantasyScore owners, and he always has been since his time in San Diego. His biggest problem is being able to stay healthy and hit for average.

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo hasn't recorded a hit in his last 20 at-bats, which has found him on the bench Tuesday, April 28. He also has the league's lowest batting average (.096). Manager Jeff Bannister said Choo will work with the team's hitting instructors and may have another day off Wednesday, April 29.
Fantasy Tip: You should look to stay away from Choo at FantasyScore for the foreseeable future. The Rangers don't have great options to replace him in the outfield, though, with Delino DeShields ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) starting in right field Tuesday.

Updating previous reports, Texas Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland (elbow) could need minor surgery to remove a loose body from his elbow. He first had the issue roughly two weeks ago and received anti-inflammatory medication and was held out for most of that week. Moreland has gone 5-for-15 over the last four games to raise his average to .304, though. If he has surgery, he'll likely be out for around 10 days while the stitches heal.
Fantasy Tip: Moreland ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) owners shouldn't be too worried, especially since his elbow issues didn't really affect his offensive performance lately. Adam Rosales ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) figures to benefit the most from increased playing time if Moreland has to sit out after surgery.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:47:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rosales ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has four hits in only 20 at-bats this year. His limited experience and at-bats make him a weak play for FantasyScore users against Seattle Mariners starter J.A. Happ.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:09:43 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Holland ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is currently on the 60-day DL, so he won't be back for a while. If you don't have the room to stash him in standard mixed leagues, he's worth dropping.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:45:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Moreland ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners starter J.A. Happ tonight, but he's not a strong FantasyScore play, especially while playing injured. Moreland also hit a meager .120 (3-for-25) in a small sample size against lefties in 2014.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:43:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: DeShields ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is useful for his speed in fantasy leagues, but he loses what little FantasyScore appeal he has on Tuesday by hitting at the bottom of a weak-hitting Rangers lineup. Avoid him at FantasyScore tonight.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 13:36:40 -0700
Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in right field and hitting second in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP J.A. Happ.
Fantasy Tip: Choo ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is off to a terrible start in 2015, hitting only .096 (5-for-52) with a home run and five RBI. In shallow mixed leagues, he's probably not worth a roster spot while he's struggling. Smolinski ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has just four hits in 36 at-bats on the season, and he's another weak FantasyScore play on this Tuesday night.
Mon, 27 Apr 2015 13:44:22 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is on track to return to the majors in mid to late May, and he remains a worthy stash in the majority of formats. The regularity of his testing is essentially irrelevant to his fantasy value, however, it should serve as another reminder of the risks associated with his fake stock. Still, expect a return to Texas to help Hamilton both on and off the field.
