Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has battled injuries all year, and while he has shown rare flashes of his upside, he is nothing more than a roll-of-the-dice play at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has come alive somewhat after a slow start to his Rangers career. He may not be worth the huge contract Texas gave him, but Choo may be a decent backup outfielder for your team in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Deshields ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has appeared in all but one game since Sept. 11, and had scored 17 runs in his last 19 games entering play Friday, Oct. 2, so the injury hasn't impacted him too negatively. He makes a solid value play in FantasyScore.

Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez has three straight wins in his last four starts at home with a 2.28 ERA in those starts. Perez allowed two unearned runs in six innings against the Houston Astros his last time out. He faces the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, Oct. 2.
Fantasy Tip: The Angels have been pretty bad against lefties all season long but swung the bats better during a playoff push in September. There's still a lot on the line here, so Perez ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is a risk/reward play on FantasyScore tonight.

Fantasy Tip: Chirinos ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has hit well since his return from the DL, going 3-for-8 (.375) with a home run and one run driven in. The Rangers are trying to get him back up to full speed for the playoffs next week, and he can be a nice value pick at catcher if he's in the lineup to close out the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Over his last three games, Beltre ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) has a home run, three doubles, seven RBI and four runs scored. Don't hesistate to start him at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is boom or bust typically in daily formats, but he is batting .283 (41-for-145) with 11 of his 17 home runs this year off southpaws. Norris is also allowing 1.4 home runs per nine innings in 2015, so it could be the perfect storm for a FantasyScore breakthrough tonight.

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton could become the team's regular left fielder just three weeks after he had surgery on his left knee. Manager Jeff Bannister has left that possibility open that Hamilton won't be limited to starting against right-handed pitchers. Four of the Rangers' final six regular season games are against left-handed pitchers. Hamilton played the entire game Saturday, Sept. 26, and said his knee felt better as the game went on.
Fantasy Tip: You'll only want to consider Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) if he's starting against a right-handed pitcher on FantasyScore. Against lefties this year he's hitting just .229 (11-for-48) with two of his six home runs. Mike Napoli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) loses major fantasy value in the closing week.

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland (finger) threw a bullpen session Monday, Sept. 28, and while his finger is still a bit sore, he remains on track to pitch against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, Oct. 1, according to manager Jeff Banister.
Fantasy Tip: Holland ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) has only pitched 89 1/3 innings over the past two seasons, and the game Thursday will have a playoff atmosphere. View Holland as a high-risk, high-reward start at FantasyScore Thursday, and you shouldn't fret fading him entirely. He has allowed 21 runs through 22 innings over his past four starts, after all.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has played too sparingly to view him as anything more than a high-risk, high-reward dice roll at FantasyScore Monday. Napoli ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) could see fewer at-bats this week, which is unfortunate because he owns a .309/.390/.515 slash line since joining Texas.

Texas Rangers SP Derek Holland was hit in his left hand by a ball off the bat of Houston Astros 2B Jose Altuve in the first inning, and Holland said it bothered him the rest of the day. Holland went on to give up seven hits and four runs in five innings.
Fantasy Tip: Holland ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) could have one more start left in him before any postseason play, so keep an eye on whether Texas skips over him if that hand is still an issue. As it is, Holland's FantasyScore price is a bit too high for the production you will get.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has seen limited playing time over the last few months and probably should not be a starting option for owners on FantasyScore.
Sat, 26 Sep 2015 05:40:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has played very well this month with a .422 batting average, three home runs and 16 RBI. He should continue to in the starting lineup every day since the team is competing for a playoff spot and could be a solid option on FantasyScore as long as he is on a hot streak.
Thu, 24 Sep 2015 17:53:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Beltre ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is batting .321 with three home runs and 22 RBIs during the month of September and he is hitting .455 with one home run and nine RBIs over the past week. Keep using him in FantasyScore while he's on a hot streak at the plate.
Thu, 24 Sep 2015 17:28:14 -0700
Fantasy Tip: With the win, Hamels ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) improved to 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA through five September starts. FantasyScore owners should consider using him in his next outing will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Detroit Tigers.
