Texas Rangers news, rumors and injuriesTue, 21 May 2013 20:32:12 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando (triceps) has been playing catch, but he said Tuesday, May 21, that while everything is feeling better, he is only throwing around "40 percent." Share: Rangers | Three candidates to start Monday Tue, 21 May 2013 20:31:39 -0700 The Texas Rangers have a doubleheader scheduled for Monday, May 27. The team could use SP Ross Wolf, who is expected to start Wednesday, May 22, too. SPs Josh Lindblom and Martin Perez are also candidates. SP Yu Darvish will start the other game of the twin bill. Share: Rangers | Nick Tepesch tentatively set for Sunday Tue, 21 May 2013 20:30:24 -0700 The next turn in the rotation for Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (blister) is set for Sunday, May 26. He was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, May 22, due to a blister on his right middle finger. The team is hopeful he can start Sunday with a doubleheader set for Monday, May 27. Share: Rangers | Jurickson Profar already making history Tue, 21 May 2013 20:29:54 -0700 Texas Rangers 2B Jurickson Profar drove in two runs with a groundout and sacrifice fly Monday, May 20, against the Oakland Athletics. He is the fifth player in franchise history to drive in multiple runs from the ninth spot in the order without the benefit of a hit. The last player to accomplish the feat was INF D'Angelo Jimenez back in 2006. Share: Rangers | Nick McBride promoted Tue, 21 May 2013 20:28:26 -0700 The Texas Rangers promoted P Nick McBride from Class A Myrtle Beach to Triple-A Round Rock Tuesday, May 21. Share: Rangers | Ross Wolf to start Wednesday Tue, 21 May 2013 20:27:07 -0700 Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers will recall SP Ross Wolf from Triple-A Round Rock to start the game Wednesday, May 22, against the Oakland Athletics in place of the injured SP Nick Tepesch (blister). Wolf is also a candidate to stick around and start one of the two games of a doubleheader Monday, May 27. Fantasy Tip: Wolf could be a decent short-term fantasy addition in AL-only play, as he might also draw a second start in Monday's doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners. If you need a back-end fantasy rotation arm, Wolf has been pitching well in the minors and is worth a look. Share: Rangers | Neal Cotts called up Tue, 21 May 2013 16:28:16 -0700 Texas Rangers RP Neal Cotts was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock Tuesday, May 21. He was 3-1 with a 0.78 ERA in 15 outings with Round Rock this year. Share: Rangers | Nick Tepesch to miss start Tue, 21 May 2013 14:29:48 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Nick Tepesch (finger) will miss his scheduled start Wednesday, May 22, with a blister. SP Ross Wolf will start the game Tuesday, May 21, if the game isn't postponed due to rain. Share: Rangers | A.J. Pierzynski activated Tue, 21 May 2013 11:29:41 -0700 The Texas Rangers activated C A.J. Pierzynski (oblique) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 21, and optioned C Robinson Chirinos and SP Josh Lindblom to the minors in corresponding moves. Share: Rangers | A.J. Pierzynski will remain starter Mon, 20 May 2013 16:20:17 -0700 Texas Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski will remain the primary catcher when he returns to the team this week, even though C Geovany Soto had five hits in 12 at-bats with two home runs and four RBIs with regular playing time. Soto will return to backup duties, and he'll start one or two times a week. Share: Rangers | Jurickson Profar to split time at 2B Mon, 20 May 2013 13:16:57 -0700 Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said INFs Jurickson Profar and Leury Garcia will split time at second base with 2B Ian Kinsler (intercostal) on the disabled list. Garcia started at second Sunday, May 19. Profar hit two home runs with Triple-A Round Rock Saturday, May 18, to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He had 14 hits in his last 33 at-bats with six runs, two doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs. Profar is likely to go back to the minors when Kinsler returns, because the team wants him playing every day. Manager Ron Washington said Kinsler could be out only five to six days. Fantasy Tip: Profar should be owned in all leagues, even if his stay in the majors is short-lived this time around. Kinsler is known to be a slower healer, though, so that could buy Profar a little more time. Share: Rangers | Derek Lowe cut Mon, 20 May 2013 12:53:13 -0700 The Texas Rangers designated RP Derek Lowe for assignment Monday, May 20, to make room on the roster for SP Josh Lindblom. Share: Rangers | Colby Lewis rehabs Mon, 20 May 2013 12:51:57 -0700 Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis (triceps) allowed two runs and four hits in 2 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Frisco Monday, May 20, and he threw 33 of his 47 pitches for strikes. "I'm just trying to get reps and get my arm strength back to where you know you can get a big league hitter out," Lewis said. "Right now, in my mind, I don't feel like I can do that. I definitely feel like I can locate. I feel like my velocity's down, and I definitely need to generate more power." He topped out at 87 mph, and his fastball was consistently 84-86 mph. Fantasy Tip: Lewis clearly needs a couple more rehab outings in order to build his arm strength, so it could be a couple more weeks until he's ready to rejoin the starting rotation. If you have a DL spot open, it's worth stashing him until then in mixed leagues. Share: Rangers | A.J. Pierzynski ready to return Mon, 20 May 2013 12:09:43 -0700 Texas Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski (oblique) is ready to return from the disabled list Tuesday, May 21, after his two-game stint with Double-A Frisco. Pierzynski went 1-for-3 with an infield single Monday, May 20, and he went 1-for-6 and threw out two base stealers in the game Sunday, May 19. Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski will return to the primary catching duties, pushing Geovany Soto back to backup duties. Share: Rangers | Alexi Ogando hid injury, says manager Sun, 19 May 2013 22:54:38 -0700 Updating previous items, Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington acknowledged when he met with SP Alexi Ogando (biceps) about the pitcher's biceps tendonitis, Ogando revealed that it had been bothering him before his start against the Oakland Athletics. Ogando is now on the 15-day disabled list. "He finally told me that when we were talking and I said 'You can't do that'," Washington said. "He's got a different workload this year. When you are a reliever and you only have to pitch an inning or so, you can pitch through some soreness, but when you are a starter, it's a different situation. You can make it worse." Share: ![]() |
