Fantasy Tip: McGee could easily be back early next week, but it's unknown if he'll immediately be inserted back into the closer's role. There's a good chance the club will ease him back in, and Brad Boxberger, who has done a great job in the ninth in McGee's absence, will deserve to remain on all fantasy rosters until the situation becomes more clear.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has received only nine at-bats this season but has recorded a home run and RBI in his limited time. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use.

Fantasy Tip: Souza had been slumping a bit before recording two knocks Tuesday night. With Souza out tonight, Brandon Guyer ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is receiving the start against Boston Red Sox starter Justin Masterson. Guyer is hitting .255 (14-for-55) with one home run and seven RBI, and he shouldn't create much excitement for FantasyScore lineups, especially at the bottom of the lineup.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (elbow) has received platelet-rich plasma injections in his elbow in hopes that he can pitch through a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow this year. Cobb will rest for at least two weeks to see if the injections help. If not, he'll likely need to have Tommy John surgery and be out for most and maybe all of the 2016 season.
Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) owners should keep him stashed in a DL slot for now, but history isn't on his side while attempting to pitch through a partially torn elbow ligament. If you haven't already, make plans for rotation help. Matt Moore, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery of his own, could return sometime in June and will immediately return to the starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: McGee is getting very close to rejoining the team in the back end of the bullpen. Brad Boxgerger has done a fantastic job in the closer's role in McGee's absence, and the ninth inning could be fluid once McGee returns. However, if McGee is healthy and performing well, he's expected to eventually take over the closer's role. Both relievers should be owned in all fantasy formats for now, though.

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Evan Longoria posted his 1,000th career hit in the game Tuesday, May 5, against the Boston Red Sox. He is third on the team's all-time list, 16 behind former 2B/OF Ben Zobrist for second place.
Fantasy Tip: While the milestone was nice, Longo has managed just one homer and six RBI with a rather pedestrian .402 slugging percentage. At $4,400 (or 8.8% of cap) he could re-emerge as a must-start FantasyScore option if he can find his power stroke again.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (elbow) will attempt to get through a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament by resting and getting treatments, according to the team's president of baseball operations Matt Silverman, Tuesday, May 5. Cobb and the Rays' training staff believe he can pitch again this season.
Fantasy Tip: Season-long owners should keep Cobb stashed in a DL spot if possible. If immediate help is needed, or if a tempting option emerges on the waiver wire, it appears as though owners don't need to be excessively patient with Cobb at this point. Unless more promising news comes out in the next couple of weeks, Cobb could be dropped sooner rather than later.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) doesn't look like he's ready to return anytime soon for the Rays. Rene Rivera ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) and Bobby Wilson ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are splitting time behind the dish and are very weak catching options at FantasyScore.
Tue, 05 May 2015 14:44:23 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) faces an uphill battle to avoid what would likely be Tommy John surgery. If fantasy owners learned anything about Masahiro Tanaka, it's that pitching through ligament tears usually leads to a DL trip eventually. Cobb is already on the DL and likely wouldn't return in another few weeks, at the earliest, anyway. Continue to stash him in a DL slot everywhere, but this one could be over quickly.
Tue, 05 May 2015 09:44:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: This is terrible news for Cobb ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) and his owners, and it means he'll be out for much longer and possibly the rest of the 2015 season, depending on how he responds to rest. Nathan Karns ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) and Alex Colome ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) might be safe in the rotation for the foreseeable future now.
Mon, 04 May 2015 22:20:59 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Souza ended up reaching base four times with a single, double, walk and the HBP. At $3,700 (or 7.4% of cap) he is a solid play in FantasyScore due to his tremendous upside.
Mon, 04 May 2015 22:20:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: McGee could return and work his way into the closer's role at some point. Keep an eye on him in weekly fantasy formats.
Mon, 04 May 2015 16:29:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Souza ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) entered the game Monday night hitless in his last 17 at-bats, and he made that 18 when he struck out in his first at-bat. Souza has 13 K's in his last 18 at-bats. Avoid him until he breaks out of this funk everywhere, including at FantasyScore.
Mon, 04 May 2015 15:41:33 -0700
Tampa Bay Rays SS Asdrubal Cabrera, who is hitless in his last 14 at-bats, was dropped from third to seventh in the batting order Monday, May 4. OF David DeJesus, who is 0-for-17 lately, was dropped to fifth in the lineup. 1B James Loney has moved to the third spot.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) and DeJesus ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should be looked at as weaker FantasyScore plays tonight, even against a right-handed pitcher. Loney ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a midrange first base play tonight while seeing a bump into the heart of the batting order.
Mon, 04 May 2015 14:20:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) will likely not be able to return to the rotation for at least another month now, and maybe longer. You'll have to remain patient with him in standard leagues. Nathan Karns and Alex Colome will have more run with a rotation spot with Cobb's setback.
