St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez (4-5) allowed six runs on six hits over five innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, May 25, with three walks and seven strikeouts. Martinez has lost five consecutive decisions for the first time in his MLB career.
Fantasy Tip: After going 4-0 during the month of April, Martinez has gone five straight outings without recording a quality start and has only made it beyond the fifth inning once. He should be avoided in daily fantasy contests for the foreseeable future.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta has plenty of experience at the position with 203 starts at the hot corner, and he projects to see some time there with the Cards to help find at-bats for him while keeping Aledmys Diaz in the lineup, too. Peralta should be back before long, and the prospect of eligibility at multiple positions and his power in a strong lineup make Peralta a must-own bat in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta should be ready to return sometime in June, and he's likely to be an everyday player despite the emergence of shortstop Aledmys Diaz. Peralta could be moved around the diamond in order to keep his bat in the lineup, and he could gain fantasy value as a result. Peralta should remain stashed in all leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta should be able to return to the Red Birds sometime in June. Even with Aledmys Diaz tearing it up, Peralta should return as an everyday player in St. Louis, and he could see time at other positions, which may boost his fantasy value. Continue stashing Peralta everywhere. Kolten Wong could be the biggest loser in playing time once Peralta is back.

Fantasy Tip: The team heads to Washington Thursday, and Carpenter could miss a couple of games. Look for Jedd Gyorko to see increased time, and he's a low-end option depending on the matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Wong has a .265-1-3 line this month and will be greeted by Jake Arrieta today. The leadoff spot gives Wong some luster, but the matchup is terrible. Tejada doesn't hit enough to use in DFS today.

Fantasy Tip: Wacha has allowed 14 runs in his last two starts and has not pitched more than four innings in any of his last three starts. He is scheduled to face the Washington Nationals in his next start, so owners may want to look for other options to use until Wacha improves.

Fantasy Tip: Adams has two home runs in his last three games and has knocked in 13 runs in 15 games in May. Play the hot hand and run with him in daily and traditional setups if you own him. Despite a small sample size, Adams has four hits (two doubles) and an RBI in nine career plate appearances against Hammel.
Tue, 24 May 2016 12:23:23 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Adams, who is hitting .289/.347/.500 with five home runs and 19 RBI on the year, could continue to see more playing time over Brandon Moss at first base if he stays hot. Keep running with him as a midrange power option in daily formats and look to add him if you need help at first base in deep mixed leagues if he's available.
Tue, 24 May 2016 00:37:34 -0700
St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright scattered seven hits and stranded eight runners, while throwing 68 of his 108 pitches for strikes, in a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday, May 23. Wainwright did not get the decision.
Fantasy Tip: After a rocky beginning to the year, it looks like Wainwright has stabilized. That should be enough to calm the doubters for now, as it looks like Wainwright is back to pitching strong games. He has increased fantasy value now that the worst of the struggles appears to be over.
Tue, 24 May 2016 00:19:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Grichuk has gone a long way toward helping solidify the Cardinals outfield, along with Matt Holliday and Stephen Piscotty. His batting average and slugging percentage are way down from last year, but his 23 runs scored (prior to Monday) make Grichuk a solid fantasy option.
Mon, 23 May 2016 12:54:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Moss is hitting just .218 but has eight home runs and 22 RBI on the season. He has good numbers against Lackey in his career, hitting at a clip of .364 with two RBI in 12 plate appearances. Moss certainly profiles as a fine value pick in daily setups today.
Sun, 22 May 2016 17:05:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Aledmys Diaz isn't going anywhere, but St. Louis will likely find some ways to insert Peralta's bat in the lineup when he returns. Meanwhile, he will still have shortstop eligibility, so he is worth stashing in most mixed formats.
Sun, 22 May 2016 11:06:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Moss has only one hit in his last seven games, so owners should be able to find better options to use in their starting lineups.
Sat, 21 May 2016 16:18:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Leake is 3-0 with a 0.85 ERA in his last three starts. He's not going to be more than a midrange option in fantasy because he doesn't strike guys out, but he's certainly worth starting in most matchups right now.
