Fantasy Tip: Garcia is a solid option in NL-only leagues, but his mediocre ratios and strikeout totals limit his value in other formats.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid Carpenter in all fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game or two without any lingering effects of his injury.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Brandon Moss (ankle) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AA Springfield Thursday, July 28. However, he has no defined timetable for a return, manager Mike Matheny said.
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners will want to keep Moss reserved in all leagues until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game or two without any setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Moss has 17 home runs and 40 RBI and should see semi-regular playing time or better down the stretch. He's a viable own in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, but just know you won't receive full-time at-bats from Moss. Stay tuned for updates on his recovery.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez allowed two earned runs, five hits and four walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a win in Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday, July 26, against the New York Mets.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez wasn't terribly sharp, but he still has 10 victories and a 2.87 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP to help fantasy owners in all rotisserie formats.

Fantasy Tip: Gyorko has turned it up in the power category, posting seven of his 14 homers in the past nine games while posting 11 RBIs. After a quiet start to the season Gyorko is making up for lost time in the month of July, re-emerging as a must-start in all NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

St. Louis Cardinals P Alex Reyes was pulled from his start Tuesday, July 26, with Class AAA Memphis after three innings. The team has him on standby in case he is needed to start Saturday, July 30, against the Miami Marlins.
Fantasy Tip: Reyes would be making his major league debut if he is called up. He is worth a look in NL-only fantasy leagues if you have the roster flexibility, as Reyes could be very good.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty, 1B Matt Adams and C Yadier Molina are not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets Tuesday, July 26. 1B Jedd Gyorko will start at first base, while 3B Greg Garcia will start at third base and is batting first against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon. OF Randal Grichuk will start in right field, while OF Tommy Pham will start in center field and is batting fifth. C Alberto Rosario will start at catcher and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Pham may be the most attractive option among the three new players in the starting lineup, but none of the players should be considered in most mixed fantasy leagues.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader against the New York Mets Tuesday, July 26. Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and is hitting eighth, while 2B Greg Garcia is at the keystone and batting leadoff against Mets SP Noah Syndergaard Tuesday.
Fantasy Tip: Grichuk's fantasy stock is on the rise given his .574 slugging percentage through 57 plate appearances since returning from the minors. Wong, meanwhile, continues to struggle and remains a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Garcia has been hitting well (.313/.447/.444 slash line this season), but he and Hazelbaker are risky fantasy options against Syndergaard Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Rosenthal was recently ousted from the closer role, which eliminated his fantasy value in the majority of settings. Now, he's officially replaceable in all fantasy leagues. Current closer Seung-Hwan Oh has been lights out all season, after all.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Randal Grichuk and 2B Kolten Wong are not in the starting lineup Monday, July 25. OF Jeremy Hazelbaker is starting in center field and is hitting eighth, while 2B Greg Garcia is at the keystone and batting leadoff against New York Mets SP Noah Syndergaard.
Fantasy Tip: Garcia's daily value is on the rise hitting leadoff, and he's batted .311 in 90 at-bats this year. However, he has just two homers and 11 RBI and is unlikely to fill up the stat sheet for DFS players, making him a low-end option. Hazelbaker has just two hits in 10 at-bats (.200) since his return from the minors and is an option to avoid against Thor.

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter (oblique) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week. Carpenter, sidelined since July 6 with a strained right oblique, took swings in the outdoor batting cage and ran the bases Sunday, July 24.
Fantasy Tip: The team could sorely use his offense, but it won't rush him back for the sake of one or two victories. Carpenter should be activated almost immediately when he returns, but wait and see as always how injured players do in their return.

St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Mayers lasted 1 1/3 innings in his first career start Sunday, July 24, and he allowed nine earned runs on eight hits in a 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He became the first pitcher to allow nine or more runs with fewer than two innings pitched in his debut since at least 1913.
Fantasy Tip: Don't be surprised if Mayers is back at Class AAA Memphis on Monday. Also do not be surprised if the Cardinals ramp up their pursuit of a starter at the trade deadline. This is an extreme example, but Mayers was clearly not ready to handle big league hitters. That's why you should avoid pitchers like this when they make their first major league starts, with the exception of a select few prospects.

Fantasy Tip: Adams is a lefty, so he is out of the lineup against Kazmir this evening. Holliday is definitely worth the start in all formats.
Sat, 23 Jul 2016 18:34:52 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Peralta landed on the disabled list earlier this week because of continued discomfort in his surgically-repaired left thumb but the possibility of him resuming hitting soon is a good sign. INF Jedd Gyorko is likely to see the bulk of the action at the hot corner while Peralta remains sidelined and he's worthy of consideration for NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.
