Seattle Mariners news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has homered in back-to-back games, and he has eight RBI over his last four games. He has been excellent in 39 games with the Mariners this season, and he offers great value at his current price at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is stuck in an awful slump, and he has just two hits over his last 10 games. Even if he is back in Seattle's lineup soon, he shouldn't be in your plans at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has only been starting against lefties of late, and he has a .273/.309/.394 against them for the season. Hitting second boosts Jackson's value, but he still isn't anything more than a flier at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Seager ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. He has been struggling of late with a .196/.245/.333 slash line over his past 24 games. Miller ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) enters with a .447 OPS against lefties, so FantasyScore players should look elsewhere Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) entered the game 2-2 with a dismal 8.18 ERA in four August starts, allowing at least four earned runs in three of his outings. His location and velocity were much better, and it appears seeing the yellow and green of the Oakland uniforms spurred him on. He is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts against the A's this season, and 9-4 with a 2.71 ERA in 18 starts against the Athletics since the start of the 2012 season.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) has been insane in the month of August, posting 12 homers with 19 RBIs. And with his home run Wednesday he brought his season OPS back over 1.000 to 1.005. He remains a slam-dunk play in FantasyScore, as he hasn't gone more than three games without a homer since a 13-game homer drought from July 4-20.

Fantasy Tip: Wilhelmsen should obviously be owned in all leagues now. Carson Smith, who was closing before, is still worth owning in deeper leagues because of his solid peripherals, and there remains a chance that he could see some save chances here and there down the stretch.

Seattle Mariners SP Roenis Elias will join the starting rotation and start against the Chicago White Sox Thursday, Aug. 27, according to manager Lloyd McClendon. SP Vidal Nuno will move back to the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Elias ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) had a 4.22 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 13 starts for the M's earlier this year, and he made improvements in the minors after being demoted. He could be more productive in the rotation this time around and is worth adding if you need an arm in AL-only formats. Monitor him on FantasyScore for now.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:17:16 -0700
Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez has more wins against the Oakland Athletics than he does against any other team in the league in his career. He is 20-8 with a 2.63 ERA in 38 starts against them, despite losing to them the last time he faced them July 4.
Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($7,900, 15.8% of cap) won't be as much of a lock on FantasyScore as he typically is after allowing 14 earned runs in his last two starts over 8 1/3 innings. However, the A's have the worst record in the American League and aren't the most imposing offensive club around, which could make King Felix an excellent contrarian play on FantasyScore today.

Fantasy Tip: Ignore Sucre ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) everywhere. He's hitting a meager .103 (6-for-58) on the season and is facing a pitcher who has been very stingy since joining the Oakland rotation.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 10:15:24 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Miller ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) does have all nine of his home runs in 2015 off of right-handed pitchers, but Bassitt has been very solid since joining Oakland's rotation, and Miller's low lineup spot limits his daily intrigue this afternoon.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 17:10:07 -0700
Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25. OF Nelson Cruz is serving as the designated hitter, while SS Brad Miller is starting in left field and hitting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez.
Fantasy Tip: Chavez has had mixed results in August, while Miller ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is batting .318 (14-for-44) with a home run and three RBI. All nine of Miller's home runs this year have come off righties, too. He's an acceptable sleeper play on FantasyScore, but hitting eighth limits his daily ceiling.

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is batting .438 (7-for-16) in his career against Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Chavez, who he faces Tuesday, Aug. 25. OF Nelson Cruz is 5-for-11 with two home runs and six RBI in his career against Chavez.
Fantasy Tip: Both Cano ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) and Cruz ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) are solid plays on FantasyScore tonight against Chavez, who has struggled on the road this season.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 22:50:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) could use a change of scenery. If he is in the starting lineup he is a mid-level FantasyScore option who can save you salary to spread across other positions.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:41:22 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Those chasing the category in seasonal leagues could grab Wilhelmsen in the hopes he can land a tally in the save column Monday. But it is also a clear indication of who is up next behind closer Carson Smith, so Wilhelmsen could have a few more opportunities to convert saves before the end of the season.
