Mariners | Ketel Marte hot at the plate

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 11:37:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is on a 13-for-30 tear in the last seven games, and he's raised his average more than 100 points to .288 in that span. "I think we've seen, as a few hits have dropped in," manager Scott Servais said, "(Marte's) confidence has grown. He looks much more sure of himself. Not just in the batter's box but defensively as well. Which is pretty normal for all young players."

Fantasy Tip: Marte impressed in his first taste of big league action last year, and the 22-year-old is on the rise after a dismal start. He won't provide you any power numbers, but his contact-oriented approach and speed on the basepaths are valuable. If his owner panicked early and dropped him, snag him now.

Mariners | Adam Lind picking it up

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 11:11:27 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Adam Lind is hitting .324 (14-for-41) in 12 games since April 13 after starting 1-for-17 in his first six games.

Fantasy Tip: Lind's average is now up to .259, but he only has one home run and three RBI after clubbing 20 home runs with the Brewers in 2015. Lind's move to Seattle hurt his fantasy value a bit moving to the pitching-friendly park, but he's still capable of reaching the 20-homer mark. He could lose playing time against left-handers, which makes him a power source more for deep mixed leagues.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta sitting out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:33:38 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, April 27. C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger is hitting only .188 so far this season but has gone 2-for-6 in the last seven days. Clevenger is not a strong starting candidate and should be avoided by owners.

Mariners | Nori Aoki not in the lineup

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 16:31:37 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nori Aoki is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Wednesday, April 27. OF Seth Smith will start in left field in place of Aoki. SS Ketel Marte will be batting first in the starting lineup with Aoki out. 1B Dae-ho Lee will start at first base and is batting seventh, while 1B Adam Lind will serve as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Marte likely will not lead off often but should receive an extra at-bat or two Wednesday. He has gone 10-for-25 with two RBI over the last seven days and could be an attractive option in some daily fantasy leagues. Lee has received limited playing time this season but six of his hits have been home runs. Lee could be a starting candidate for some owners, but most owners should be able to find better players to use.

Mariners | Robinson Cano plates six

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 23:27:12 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano homered and drove in six runs Tuesday, April 26, which gave him 1,000 career RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Cano now has a .250-2-11 line the last seven days and should be a daily consideration at second.

Mariners | Ketel Marte in two-hole

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:32:52 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte is hitting second against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, April 26. Against the left-hander, OF Seth Smith is bumped down to ninth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Smith's daily value takes a huge plunge moving from second to ninth in the batting order. Avoid him against the lefty. Marte has a five-game hitting streak after a slow start, but he's only stolen one this year and is in for a tough matchup. Right now, he's a contrarian pick in daily setups.

Mariners | Leonys Martin, Adam Lind out

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:10:25 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin and 1B Adam Lind are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, April 26. OF Nori Aoki moves to center field, OF Franklin Gutierrez is in left field and batting fifth, and 1B Dae-ho Lee is at first base and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Keuchel hasn't flashed the Cy Young form he had last year, but he's bound to turn it around eventually. That makes Gutierrez and Lee not all that attractive Tuesday night. If you want one to help you save salary cap space, choose Guti. He hit .317 with eight home runs in 104 at-bats against lefties in 2015.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker lights up box score

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:49:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker allowed a run on six hits and a walk while matching a career high with 11 strikeouts in seven innings to beat the Houston Astros Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP and 25 K's in as many innings as it appears he may finally be harnessing his massive potential. He's a daily consideration in most matchups.

Mariners | Joel Peralta the eighth-inning man

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:35:14 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Joel Peralta "will probably be the guy we'll lean on" to replace RP Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) as the eighth-inning setup man, according to manager Scott Servais.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is a relief veteran that has 15 career saves and has a 2.25 ERA with eight strikeouts in eight innings for the M's this year. Steve Cishek has performed nicely in the closer role for Seattle this year and isn't in any danger of losing the job anytime soon. Peralta is strictly a candidate in the deepest of leagues if you're speculating for saves.

Mariners | Joaquin Benoit to DL

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:25:28 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled lists with right shoulder inflammation Monday, April 25. RP Mayckol Guaipe was recalled from Class AAA Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Benoit was serving as the eighth-inning setup man to Steve Cishek in Seattle. With Benoit on the DL, Tony Zych should be expected to set up for Cishek in the back end of the bullpen, and he's worth a stash in deeper leagues if you're speculating for saves or handcuffing Cishek.

Mariners | Chris Iannetta out of the lineup

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:05:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Chris Iannetta is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker Sunday April 24. C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger has recorded three hits, one home run and RBI in his last two games and could be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Mariners | Franklin Gutierrez embracing role

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 18:41:04 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez said he is prepared to do whatever the team needs from him but has adapted to his current platoon role.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez typically starts against lefties, and while he isn't worth owning in season-long leagues, he could make a useful starting option in daily formats when he is in the lineup. He hit 15 homers in 171 at-bats last year, so he has some legit power.

Mariners | King Felix good to go

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 16:30:40 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (illness) will make the start Saturday, April 23, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: King Felix has had a solid start, outside of the six walks in his last start. He's an SP1 option in DFS every time he starts.

Mariners | Adam Lind out against lefty

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 14:50:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners 1B Adam Lind is out of the lineup Saturday, April 23, against left-handed Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago. 1B Dae-ho Lee is hitting eighth in his place. SS Ketel Marte bumped up to hit second.

Fantasy Tip: Lee is 4-for-16 (.250) with a couple homers this season and is a shot in the dark against Santiago. Marte is hitting just .212 this year and .174 against lefties. He's not much of a flyer tonight.

Mariners | Steve Cishek earns another save

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 05:24:49 -0700

Seattle Mariners RP Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless 10th inning against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, April 22, to earn his fourth save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek has not allowed a run in his last six appearances and only two hits during that span. He is also averaging a strikeout per inning, which makes him an attractive option in all leagues.
