Mariners | James Paxton heading to DL

Fri, 29 May 2015 15:32:58 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) is on the disabled list with a strained tendon in his middle finger.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is worth stashing in even shallow mixed leagues while he's on the DL. The Mariners are likely to recall someone from the minors to join the rotation in the short term with Paxton out, so stay tuned.

Mariners | James Paxton exits with finger issue

Fri, 29 May 2015 09:34:20 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP James Paxton (finger) left the game Thursday, May 28, with discomfort in his middle finger on his left hand. He'll be re-evaluated Friday, May 29. "We'll find out tomorrow," Paxton said. "Right now it has pretty good movement and it already feels better than it did an hour ago. Hopefully by tomorrow it'll feel much better."

Fantasy Tip: Paxton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) could be forced to miss a start, but the Friday exam will provide clarity.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma played catch Thursday

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:37:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (back) played catch Thursday, May 28, and "he feels real good," according to manager Lloyd McClendon. The Mariners manager added he'd be surprised if Iwakuma were able to throw off a mound within the next seven to 10 days.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma is worth stashing in AL-only leagues, and in some deeper mixed leagues if owners can afford to waste the roster space.

Mariners | Robinson Cano out with flu

Thu, 28 May 2015 16:28:11 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is out of the lineup Thursday, May 28, against the Cleveland Indians, due to flu-like symptoms.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners won't be missing much with Cano out of the lineup. A couple days away could be a good thing for Cano, as he has struggled mightily so far this season.

Mariners | Felix Hernandez throws shutout

Wed, 27 May 2015 17:34:16 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez pitched a complete-game shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, May 27. He allowed four hits during the game while striking out eight batters.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) has not allowed more than four runs in any game this season and has 1.91 ERA through 10 starts. Hernandez is scheduled to face the New York Yankees in his next start and should be a starting option if owners are willing to spend the money.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz hits another HR

Wed, 27 May 2015 17:19:42 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, May 27. Cruz leads the American League with 18 home runs.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) is hitting .341 this season and has eight home runs and 16 RBI in May. Owners on FantasyScore should consider using Cruz in their starting lineup most nights.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz homer wins game

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:02:40 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz hit his 18th homer of the season to lead the Mariners to a 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) leads the American League in home runs, and he has been an integral part of an otherwise disappointing Mariners squad this season. Cruz is a must-start in any lineup.

Mariners | Chris Taylor sitting vs. Rays

Wed, 27 May 2015 08:13:44 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Chris Taylor is not in the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, May 27. SS Brad Miller is batting seventh and playing shortstop Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Taylor ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. Taylor is just 10-for-59 with only four runs and one RBI to start the season, and he isn't a viable option outside AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. Miller ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) should be viewed as a risk/reward option for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Mariners | Dustin Ackley draws into lineup

Wed, 27 May 2015 08:07:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Dustin Ackley is batting eighth and playing left field against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Ackley ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is sporting an unexciting .184/.225/.311 slash line, and he'll face a solid opposing arm in Chris Archer. FantasyScore players can fade Ackley without worry, and the former second overall pick is likely best left to the waiver wire in all year-long mixed formats.

Mariners | Kyle Seager drives in six runs

Tue, 26 May 2015 22:07:50 -0700

Seattle Mariners 3B Kyle Seager went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI against the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: Seager ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been on a hot streak with four home runs and eight RBI in his last four games and at least one hit in each of his last 12 games. Owners on FantasyScore should consider using Seager during his hot streak.

Mariners | Brad Miller dropped to eighth

Tue, 26 May 2015 15:44:56 -0700

Seattle Mariners SS Brad Miller was dropped to eighth in the order Tuesday, May 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) struggled in the leadoff spot and it has been immediately given back to Austin Jackson. Miller has five home runs and three stolen bases on the season, but he'll likely score fewer runs while at the bottom of the order and with at-bats tougher to come by.

Mariners | Welington Castillo starting Tuesday

Tue, 26 May 2015 15:30:22 -0700

Seattle Mariners C Welington Castillo is starting behind the plate and batting seventh in the order Tuesday, May 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays. C Mike Zunino will be available off the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) had a hit and a run scored in each of his first two games as a member of the Mariners before going 0-for-4 Sunday, May 24. Castillo is hitting for an average of just .152 against righties, and he shouldn't be considered against Rays RHP Alex Colome.

Mariners | Austin Jackson leading off

Tue, 26 May 2015 15:24:57 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Austin Jackson (ankle) will start in center field and bat leadoff Tuesday, May 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays, in his return to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) had five stolen bases in 25 games before being placed on the disabled list. Jackson will make for an excellent GPP option for as long as his price remains low.

Mariners | Danny Hultzen on DL in minors

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:53:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Danny Hultzen (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list with Class AA Jackson after dealing with fatigue in his left shoulder. He has been shut down for two weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Hultzen continues to be plagued by arm issues that delay the prospect's rise to the big leagues. At this point, he's only worth stashing in deep keeper or dynasty leagues. Even if he makes it up to the majors in 2015, he's unlikely to have a big fantasy impact at all.

Mariners | Austin Jackson off DL

Tue, 26 May 2015 04:41:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Austin Jackson (ankle) came off the 15-day disabled list following the Monday, May 25, game against the Tampa Bay Rays. RP Danny Farquhar was sent to Class AAA Tacoma in a corresponding roster move.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will be a source of points with his bat and some speed, so put him back in your lineup. If you still feel hesitant, then wait a game or so before putting him in.
