Updating a previous report, right-handed-hitting Seattle Mariners 1B Dae-ho Lee is expected to compete for a platoon role at first base with left-handed-hitting 1B Adam Lind, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto.
Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Lee hit .282 with 31 home runs and 98 RBIs in the Japanese League last year and has lost 45 pounds this offseason. He could be of interest to owners in AL-only fantasy leagues if he has a strong showing in spring training camp and makes the 25-man roster, although his presence could drastically cut into the playing time of 1B/DH Jesus Montero.

Fantasy Tip: Lee had a .282-31-98 season in the Japanese League last season. The 33-year-old has some upside in AL-only leagues if he can land a starting spot in camp.

Seattle Mariners RP Steve Cishek said his long delivery got out of whack in spring training last season, and he didn't right the ship until after he lost the closer role with the Miami Marlins. "When you're pitching in the ninth inning and you're mechanically not very comfortable, it's hard to have the confidence you had in years past," Cishek said. "So I just lost a little confidence early because I didn't feel the same, and it reflected in my performance. Unfortunately, it kind of hurt the team a little early on as well, so it was a bummer. But also, it was great for me mentally because it helped me to handle adversity, and if this problem comes up in the future, I'll be able to handle it quicker."
Fantasy Tip: Cishek is the favorite to close for Seattle and should be a cheap target for saves as your third fantasy closer.

Fantasy Tip: Zunino is a solid second catcher flyer, but his fantasy value is on life support right now.

Fantasy Tip: Paxton has been pegged as a breakout candidate by some, and he'll be in the SP3 range in traditional leagues.

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin has 15 walks in 22 games in the Dominican Republic Winter League after he had just 16 walks in 95 games for the Texas Rangers in 2015. Martin was hitting .273 with a .387 on-base percentage prior to the game Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Fantasy Tip: Martin will have to prove himself in spring training in order to earn an everyday outfield role in Seattle. If he does, an improvement in on-base percentage coupled with his speed makes him attractive buy-low option in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Ishikawa has eight major league seasons under his belt, but his average has dropped considerably in the past year and he has little, if any fantasy value.
Thu, 14 Jan 2016 15:10:33 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Martin had a very disappointing season last year and wound up out of the Texas Rangers' plans. In Seattle he'll have to earn playing time in the outfield, but if he finds regular at-bats, he could be a surprise. Look to him as a late-round flier in AL-only leagues.

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma said he is healthy despite failing his physical examination with the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I'm very healthy," Iwakuma declared. "They (the Dodgers) had their own medical issues. I went to a physical, and they said they wanted to renegotiate. That's all I know."
Fantasy Tip: Somewhat comically, health has been the biggest fantasy drawback to Iwakuma since his monster 2013 campaign, as he has made just 48 starts over the past two seasons, including only 20 last year. He is a nice mid-rotation arm for your virtual team, but entering his age-35 season, any significant bounce-back expectations should be kept in check.

Updating an earlier report, Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma can earn close to the $45 million he agreed to on the nixed deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in his deal with the Mariners. He has two vesting options and a full no-trade clause.
Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma is a rock-solid SP3 in fantasy if he's healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma doesn't lose much fantasy luster with his return to the M's. The team seems to be on the rise, and his win total may not remain sparse, if he's healthy. Iwakuma is a rock-solid SP3 in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: Cishek has 95 career saves, including two seasons with over 30. However, he also lost the closer job last season with Miami. Still, Cishek should be viewed as a potential mid-tier relief option for seasonal drafts this spring, and pitching in the American League for the first time could help his submarine delivery keep batters uncomfortable at the plate.

Free-agent RP Steve Cishek (Cardinals) agreed to a two-year deal worth at least $10 million with the Seattle Mariners Saturday, Dec. 12, according to according to a source. The deal could be worth as much as $17 million with incentives.
Fantasy Tip: There is a good chance that Cishek receives the first opportunity to close next season, so owners should monitor his role during spring training. Cishek has been a closer in the past and could be a solid draft choice in mixed leagues if he wins the closer job.

Fantasy Tip: Scribner struck out 64 and only walked four batters in 60 innings last season. He could fit into the Mariners' closing mix and is worth a speculative flyer late in drafts.
Wed, 09 Dec 2015 08:49:32 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Lind leaves a hitter's park for the cavernous Safeco Field. It's possible that he could repeat his .277-20-87, but the move makes him little more than a midrange first baseman in traditional leagues.
