Fantasy Tip: Sardinas could see some time at shortstop and split starts with Shawn O'Malley while Ketel Marte is on the disabled list. Sardinas has gone 13-for-32 with Tacoma, but he has a career .223/.265/.269 slash line through 257 plate appearances at the highest level, and he has no power. Neither Sardinas or O'Malley offer enough fantasy value to be considered anything more than desperation owns in all formats.

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin, who already has a career-high nine home runs this year, has raised his hands in his setup at the plate, which helps him eliminate a trigger motion that caused him to have a long swing and inconsistent path to the ball. He has struck out more this year, but he's replaced that with more walks and more power. Martin's fly-ball rate has increased from 28% to 38%.
Fantasy Tip: With Martin's recent hot streak (.315-5-9 in May), he's been a popular waiver wire addition in the past week or so. If he's still available in your league, act now. His surge could earn him a move up the batting order, too, which would further increase his fantasy value. He can also run a bit, too, with seven steals on the year.

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano had three RBI Tuesday, May 24, and leads the majors with 42 RBI. He has reached safely in 23 consecutive games, hitting .344 (33-for-96) over that span with five homers, 10 doubles and 18 RBI.
Fantasy Tip: He's on pace for a .292-47-151 season and very much looks to be back to his old self. His home-road splits are pretty drastic, though. He has a .229-4-15 line at home and a .343-9-27 line on the road. It's safe to say he has the most DFS upside away from Safeco Field.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has a career-high nine home runs on the season already, and he simply can't be benched right now.

Seattle Mariners OF Seth Smith and 1B Adam Lind are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill Monday, May 23. OF Franklin Gutierrez will start in right field and is batting second. 1B Dae-ho Lee will start at first base and is batting fifth.
Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez is hitting only .200 with two home runs and five RBI this month, so owners should be able to find better options to use. Lee is hitting .218 with three home runs and eight RBI against left-handed pitchers this season and can be an option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Seattle Mariners OF Leonys Martin continued his recent tear at the plate Sunday, May 22, against the Cincinnati Reds, singling four times in five at-bats and scoring a run out of the leadoff spot. Martin is 11-for-20 with three homers, four RBI and has scored five runs during his six-game hitting streak.
Fantasy Tip: The four-hit effort was the second of his career and lifted his average 21 points to .252. Despite his poor average for most of the season, Martin probably needs to be universally owned, as he is one of only four players (Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper and Jose Altuve are the others) with at least eight homers and seven steals. The leadoff spot has been a weak spot all season for Seattle, so Martin could do his owners a big favor by locking it down ahead of RBI producers like Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz.

Fantasy Tip: There is no official timetable for Marte, so owners will need to keep an eye on the situation. Taylor likely will receive most of the starts at shortstop with Marte out but probably will be limited to AL-only leagues at this point.
Sun, 22 May 2016 09:27:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: O'Malley has only one hit in his six at-bats since joining the Mariners and does not have much fantasy value in most leagues.
Sun, 22 May 2016 09:23:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Clevenger is hitting only .188 in limited playing time this month and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues.
Sun, 22 May 2016 09:23:06 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Martin has gone 7-for-15 with three home runs and four RBI over the last seven days and is an attractive starting candidate for owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Updating a previous report, Seattle Mariners SS Ketel Marte (thumb) suffered a sprain left thumb Saturday, May 21, and manager Scott Servais said a decision will be made quickly about whether Marte needs to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Marte is likely to miss at least a few games, but he is worth hanging on to if he was already on your roster.

Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez allowed four hits while walking three and striking out five over six scoreless innings in a win over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, May 21, and he is now 20-9 with a 2.75 ERA in 37 interleague starts.
Fantasy Tip: Hernandez is off to a strong start in 2016, and while he is certainly capable of providing solid production throughout the year, he could also be a sell-high candidate given his struggles in the second half the last couple of seasons.
Sat, 21 May 2016 18:08:30 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Marte will miss time. O'Malley would likely see more action if Marte is out, but he doesn't need to be on the radar of fantasy owners.

Seattle Mariners OF Seth Smith and 1B Adam Lind are out of the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Saturday, May 21. 1B Dae-ho Lee will bat fifth and play first base, while OF Franklin Gutierrez will bat seventh and play left field.
Fantasy Tip: Smith and Lind are resting Saturday because the club is facing a left-handed pitcher. Lee is batting .273 with six home runs and 12 RBI in just 55 at-bats and makes an excellent source of cap relief in DFS. On the other hand, Gutierrez is just 9-for-51 (.176) at the plate this year and should be avoided this afternoon.

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is having a career year in 2016 after battling injuries and illness last season. He's currently tied for the American League lead with 12 home runs and leads the majors with 36 RBI to go along with a .930 OPS. Cano had one home run, 11 RBI and a .661 OPS after 40 games last year. He appears fully healthy and motivated. "Now that you're healthy, you get to look back and see the difference," Cano said. "After what I went through last year, thank God I'm healthy. I'm able to use my body and move left and right, back and forth. That's everything."
Fantasy Tip: Health is everything in sports. Cano has turned things around drastically and looks like a new man compared to last year in Seattle. He's turned out to be a great value pick in fantasy drafts and is an elite second baseman. Continue to play him with the utmost confidence.
