Fantasy Tip: Posey ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) showed no ill effects from taking a ball off his mask Wednesday. Posey is the class of the catcher position, but FantasyScore owners need to pick the right matchups before investing at such a high price.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) hadn't hit a home run since May 16, but he's been able to contribute via a high batting average and scoring runs. Blanco can be considered whenever he starts against a right-handed pitcher.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (elbow) made his first start of the season Thursday, July 2, against the Miami Marlins and struggled a bit, going five innings and surrendering five runs on seven hits, including two home runs, while striking out two and walking four.
Fantasy Tip: Overall, it wasn’t a good return to the mound for Cain ($4,300, 8.6% of cap), though he was pitching just fine until a troubling fifth inning when the Marlins tagged him for four of their five runs on the day. Despite the off outing, Cain is absolutely still worth a speculative add at the very least, and he still could be a solid option on FantasyScore based on the matchups, especially when he’s working from home in pitcher-friendly San Francisco. The 30-year-old amassed an impressive 55 wins over a four-year stretch from 2009-2012 and can still be useful for fantasy rotations if he remains healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum probably won't have a rotation spot to return to, barring another injury. He can be dumped in most formats. Matt Cain ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) takes his spot, but he's a watch list guy right now.

Fantasy Tip: Susac ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is an intriguing sleeper catcher option on FantasyScore some of the time, especially since he receives semi-regular playing time with Posey moving to first often. However, he's one to avoid against former National League Rookie of the Year Fernandez, even though it's his first start in over a year due to injury.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is having a nice season with a .314-1-15 clip, but he draws Jose Fernandez in his season debut. The upside isn't there, but the price and spot in the lineup is right if you need a low-priced outfield option on FantasyScore.

San Francisco Giants RP Santiago Casilla (arm) will be given a few days off due to arm fatigue, according to manager Bruce Bochy. RPs Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez will close out games based on matchups.
Fantasy Tip: Romo is the righty, has the experience and will probably see the bulk of the opportunities with Casilla out. He's likely gone in NL-only leagues, but if you're fetching for saves in mixed leagues, grab him.

Fantasy Tip: The Fish are without Giancarlo Stanton, but Cain ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) isn't the same pitcher he once was. Give him a start or two before using him on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Posey ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is 11-for-22 with a homer and nine RBI the last seven days, but he faces off against Jose Fernandez. The matchup isn't the greatest, but it is Fernandez's first start since Tommy John surgery. Posey is a solid option on FantasyScore.

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey (head) took a foul ball off his mask against the Miami Marlins Wednesday, July 1, in the second inning, but didn't leave the game until the fifth inning. He was replaced by C Andrew Susac.
Fantasy Tip: Susac ($2,100, 4.2% of cap), who hit .342 in 38 at-bats last month, would serve as the team's primary catcher if Posey ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is forced to miss an extended amount of playing time. Check back for further updates on Posey's status.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson (shoulder) will go on the disabled list or seven-day personal leave list to clear space for SP Jake Peavy (back) Friday, July 3. Hudson is dealing with a serious family matter and is also dealing with some physical issues, including a sore right shoulder. "Just (scapula) stuff and crankiness," said Hudson, who also has had ankle and hip issues. "It's one of those things that happens throughout the season with most people. When you get older it gets harder to deal with sometimes."
Fantasy Tip: Either way you slice it, Hudson ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is being bumped out of the rotation with Peavy returning. It's unclear how long he'll be away from the team, but it could be an extended timetable, and he could return in a relief role. Hudson has no business being owned in the majority of fantasy leagues now.

Fantasy Tip: With Jake Peavy (back) coming off the disabled list to start Friday, Hudson is expected to lose his rotation spot and possibly move to the bullpen. A move to the bereavement list makes sense as a way for the Giants to avoid the situation in the short term. It's looking like Hudson won't have any value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, though.

Fantasy Tip: Pence should remained stashed in a DL slot in all leagues, and he can help immediately upon his return sometime at the end of this month. Gregor Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is the biggest beneficiary of Pence's absence, and he'll remain a sleeper play against certain right-handed pitchers on FantasyScore. Blanco is hitting .315 (40-for-127) with a homer and 12 RBI against righties in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Panik ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) failed to reach base in just two games all month, and he finished June with a .327/.389/.475 slash line. He also scored 14 runs and is up to 40 for the season. Panik has excellent contact skills and is worth targeting at FantasyScore when the Giants face a favorable pitching matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) still has a ways to go before returning to action. Stay patient and continue stashing him everywhere. Until then, Gregor Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) benefits the most in the San Fran outfield. He's not a bad sleeper option at a cheap price on FantasyScore against certain right-handed pitchers.
