Fantasy Tip: Peavy's ERA ballooned to 8.61, and he has just one quality start in five outings so far. He is also 0-2 with an 18.00 ERA in two road outings. The good news is he has given up just two homers over 21 innings, but he has a 2.00 WHIP and he needs to become less hittable before he can be relied upon again in most fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: Pence is still hitting .400 (10-for-25) over the past seven games. Until these hitless performances become more frequent he remains a must-start fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants are being careful with Romo, a relief pitcher who throws a lot of sliders. With him out, Hunter Strickland's role as a setup main has grown, but Santiago Casilla remains the closer in San Fran and has been strong so far this year. Casilla can be shaky, though, and Strickland should be handcuffed or picked up if you're looking for saves. There's no timetable for when Romo will return.

San Francisco Giants OF Denard Span (hip) said he feels more confident in his health and less restricted every day following his offseason hip surgery. After beginning the season with a .226 batting average and a .310 on-base percentage through the first 17 games of the season, Span has improved through his past five games with .253 and .344 marks, respectively.
Fantasy Tip: Span was limited to just 61 games in 2015, but dating back to 2014 he has returned a respectable .297/.357/.414 slash line with 45 stolen bases, including his three in 2016. He can be a strong contributor in runs, stolen bases and batting average, and setting the table for a strong lineup also helps his upside. Span should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: After Wednesday's performance, Belt is batting .303 and is tied for sixth in the National League with 16 RBI. He should be viewed as a midrange first base option in both seasonal and daily fantasy formats.

San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey sat out of the lineup Wednesday, April 27, in a day game following a night game despite hitting .440 (11-for-25) in his career against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner. Manager Bruce Bochy said Posey will see more time off in the future to keep him fresh for the long haul. The Giants like C Trevor Brown both on offense and defense. Bochy said Posey is fine physically.
Fantasy Tip: While Posey's owners certainly would like him to play every day, they aren't complaining about the Giants' plan to keep him healthy and productive all year. While Posey is hitting only .264, he does have three home runs and seven RBI and continues to be an elite fantasy catcher.

Fantasy Tip: He hasn't done much in the power categories, but he has a good history against Andrew Cashner. He's a solid DFS option today.

Fantasy Tip: Brown hit three homers in the course of two days but hasn't done much otherwise. Pass on him against Andrew Cashner. Belt is 5-for-15 (.333) with a homer against Cashner, and cleanup is a nice boost in the lineup. He's a solid midrange option today.

San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner's average fastball velocity is down from 93 mph to 91 mph so far this season. However, his strikeout rate is up to 11.5 per nine innings from his career-high 9.6 K/9 last year. Bumgarner insists his arm feels fine, and the foot and rib cage injuries that appeared in spring training are not a factor.
Fantasy Tip: MadBum's 1.35 WHIP is a little concerning with 30 hits and 10 walks in 29 2/3 innings. However, many pitchers struggle out of the gates only to turn in banner seasons at the end. He's still a legit SP1 worth daily consideration when his turn comes up.

Fantasy Tip: Romo was likely drafted in deeper leagues as a handcuff option to Santiago Casilla in the late innings for the Giants. Romo should be left to most waiver wires until he's ready to return. In the meantime and in the long term, Hunter Strickland has some intrigue as a possible candidate to see some save chances if Casilla struggles or is injured.

San Francisco Giants OF Denard Span and 1B Brandon Belt are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Adam Conley Sunday, April 24. C Buster Posey will start at first base, while C Trevor Brown will start at catcher and is batting sixth. OF Gregor Blanco will start in center field and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Brown has posted solid numbers in his limited playing time and could be used in daily fantasy leagues. Blanco has gone 4-for-9 with three triples in the last seven days and could be a decent option in daily leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco is 2-for-3 with a homer off Jose Fernandez. It's an extremely small sample size, but if you're looking for a basement outfielder to load up elsewhere in DFS, he's worth a shot.

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija allowed one run on six hits in 7 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins Friday, April 22, to record his second win of the season. He struck out five batters and did not walk any batters during the game. He also went 2-for-4 with three RBI at the plate.
Fantasy Tip: Samardzija has posted solid numbers in his first four starts of the season and has not allowed more than three runs in any game. He is scheduled to face the San Diego Padres in his next start and could be an attractive starting candidate in most leagues.

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence is being moved to sixth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Friday, April 22. As a result, 3B Matt Duffy is hitting third before C Buster Posey.
Fantasy Tip: Pence isn't lighting the world on fire but does have two home runs and 11 RBI on the year despite hitting .230. Duffy is in a similar spot as Pence, so the shakeup is an attempt to get both going. It could work against Cosart, who is sporting a 6.10 ERA in two starts this year. Both Duffy and Pence are worth a look as contrarian plays tonight in DFS action.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants want to stretch Heston out in case he is needed in the parent club's rotation and they also believe he will be able to use his side sessions to gain more confidence in his mechanics. The 28-year-old went 12-11 with a 3.95 ERA in 31 starts last year in a season that was highlighted by a no-hitter against the New York Mets. However, he struggled with his control this year in a bullpen role, allowing six runs on nine hits over five innings in four appearances, with twice as many walks as strikeouts. Heston is only worth monitoring in NL-only fantasy leagues at this point.
