Fantasy Tip: Lee has shown some pop in his limited action with six home runs and a .507 slugging percentage through 71 plate appearances. View him as a viable flier in daily contests Monday. Gutierrez is struggling this season with a .239/.329/.451 slash line, and isn't worth a roster spot outside of cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt is hitting .270 with three home runs and seven RBI this month. He may be a decent option for owners in two-catcher leagues and could also be used in some daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Don't hit the panic button after one rough start. Stay the course with Pomeranz for now.

San Diego Padres SP Cesar Vargas (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness Sunday, May 29, and manager Andy Green said he had no idea the severity of the injury at this point. SP Colin Rea is expected to be recalled to fill Vargas' spot in the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: If you had picked up Vargas in NL-only formats, you can stash him until a timetable for his recovery is determined.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt is hitting .273 with three home runs and six RBI this month and should be a starting candidate in two-catcher leagues and some daily fantasy leagues.

San Diego Padres 3B Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley Sunday, May 29. 1B Yangervis Solarte will start at third base, while SS Alexi Amarista will start at second base and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Amarista has only four hits in his last 10 games and is not a strong option for most fantasy owners. Owners should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Fantasy Tip: While improvement in the batting average (.235) would be nice, it is tough to complain about Kemp's counting stats. He has 23 runs, 12 home runs and 32 RBI for the year, and remains a viable outfielder in all fantasy formats. There could be a buy-low window, too, as Kemp has improved significantly in the second half in each of the past two seasons with 32 of his 48 home runs coming after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Friedrich has pitched well in two of his three outings and even managed to minimize the damage in his third, a sloppy turn against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His 1.1 K/BB ratio is a concern, but Friedrich should have some NL-only appeal, at least in the short term.

San Diego Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte clubbed a pair of two-run home runs in the team's 10-3 shellacking of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, May 27. He now has four extra-base hits, including three homers, in his last two games.
Fantasy Tip: Solarte, who returned last Saturday after six weeks on the DL due to a hamstring injury, is 5-for-12 with three home runs and six RBI in the last two-plus games after an initial 0-for-10 stretch following his activation. He's a capable hitter that brings additional value to fantasy rosters by being able to cover multiple positions. Scoop him up for depth.

San Diego Padres RP Matt Thornton (Achilles') is expected to be activated during the team's weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The lefty hasn't taken the hill this season due to tendinitis in his Achilles.
Fantasy Tip: Thronton was signed as a setup man for Fernando Rodney, but Ryan Buchter has been lights out in the role with Thornton sidelined. His only real value was going to be in leagues that count holds. Now even that seems uncertain. Leave him on waivers until it becomes clearer how he'll be used.

Fantasy Tip: What a disappointment Ross has been to owners this year. After allowing seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in his season debut he landed on the DL and hasn't been back since. He has a ways to go, too, and will likely need to go on a rehab assignment. He's probably not worth stashing in the majority of mixed leagues right now, and he's a high-risk, high-reward starter with an career 8.5 K/9 but also a dangerous career 3.6 BB/9.

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers has an on-base percentage of .500 and is 12-for-32 with two home runs, four doubles and eight walks in 40 career plate appearances at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres are playing a three-game series in Arizona this weekend.
Fantasy Tip: Myers is returning after a few games off due to forearm soreness. He's struggled a bit in May but should be returned to all seasonal lineups because of his success hitting at Chase Field.
Fri, 27 May 2016 15:33:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Solarte should be a lineup regular for SD now that he's healthy, and his multipositional eligibility makes him a decent depth piece in deep mixed and NL-only universes. Hitting cleanup tonight against a lefty also makes him an attractive value pick in daily games.
Fri, 27 May 2016 15:26:46 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's a welcome return for his owners, but he's hitting only .218 with two home runs and seven RBI with 17 strikeouts in 87 at-bats this month. The matchup against Ray is a decent one, though, so he should be returned to all seasonal lineups. It's understandable if you try to avoid him in DFS.

Fantasy Tip: Shields is 2-2 with a respectable 2.33 ERA during the month of May, with 35 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings. He will make his next start against the Seattle Mariners Tuesday, May 31.
