Fantasy Tip: Melancon has recorded a save in nine of his last 10 appearances and has allowed only two earned runs this month. He should receive plenty of save opportunities moving forward and should be a starting option in all leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Freese has become a bench player since Jung Ho Kang has returned but has received starts at first base against left-handed pitchers. He is hitting .277 this season and can be used by owners in daily fantasy leagues when he is in the lineup.

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Gregory Polanco went 3-for-4 with one RBI against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, May 25. He is hitting .343 with 16 RBI since being moved to the No. 3 spot in the starting lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Polanco has recorded at least one hit in eight of his last nine games and has five multi-hit games during that span. He is a must-start option in all leagues as long as he is on his hot streak.

Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Josh Harrison (illness) was scratched from the starting lineup with an illness Wednesday, May 25. 1B Sean Rodriguez is replacing Harrison at second base and is batting sixth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa.
Fantasy Tip: S-Rod isn't a bad replacement, as he's hitting .298 with four home runs and 14 RBI. De La Rosa has improved this season but isn't exactly a daunting matchup, making Rodriguez worth a look as a midrange flier in daily contests.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang and C Francisco Cervelli are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. 3B David Freese is starting at third base and is hitting fifth, while C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and batting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa.
Fantasy Tip: This is Cervelli's second straight day sitting, so he may be dealing with an injury. Check back for more updates. Stewart is batting .229 after going 1-for-3 last night and is a very low-end catching option in DFS action. Freese has been respectable for the Pirates this year, batting .276 with two home runs and 12 RBI, and he could have an opportunity to drive in plenty of runs as a value pick.

Fantasy Tip: Watson is the primary eighth-inning setup man for Mark Melancon in Pittsburgh. The left-hander has been stellar with a 2.18 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 7.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He's valuable in much deeper leagues and as a handcuff for Melancon owners.

Fantasy Tip: Polanco has really been breaking out in his third major league season, as he actually leads the National League in doubles with 17, and his six homers in 163 at-bats are already almost as much as the nine he hit last season in 593 at-bats. While Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen get most of the attention, Polanco has pretty much been as steady as any outfielder in the bigs thus far.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano improved to 4-3 after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in his start Tuesday, May 24. He tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on two hits and five walks. He also had two strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Liriano didn't really have his command on this night, as he walked five batters for the third time this season, but fortunately for him, the offense provided three runs in the first inning to make things a bit easier. He's now allowed two runs or fewer in three of four starts this month, so while his current season numbers are off from his usual output, the left-hander is still worth deploying in fantasy on a regular basis.

Fantasy Tip: Stewart is sporting a .219 average (7-for-32) with one home run and four RBI. While hitting at the bottom of the order, Stewart is nothing more than a desperation daily play to save salary cap space.
Tue, 24 May 2016 12:05:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kang is showing that his power in 2015 was for real with five home runs in just 39 at-bats after starting the season late. He's a fine daily pick against the struggling Miller, and Kang should be immediately returned to all starting lineups in seasonal leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Vogelsong was hit in the face by a pitch during his spot start against the Colorado Rockies Monday. His fantasy value was already extremely limited serving mainly as a long relief guy out of the bullpen. He's likely to return to that role when he's recovered.
Mon, 23 May 2016 14:27:21 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's an unfortunate break for the 38-year-old, who was looking solid in his second start of the season before having to leave the contest after being drilled by a pitch while up at bat. It remains to be seen how long he'll be out, but regardless, Vogelsong isn't someone to monitor, as he was simply getting a spot start here.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Ryan Vogelsong (head) was removed from his start early after taking a ball to the head while batting in the bottom of the second inning against the Colorado Rockies Monday, May 23. He was carted off the field.
Fantasy Tip: It didn't sound or look good. Vogelsong was making a spot start in a makeup game Monday, so his fantasy value is minimal and should remain on the waiver wire. He'll likely undergo concussion testing. Stay tuned for more information on his status moving forward. If he lands on the DL, it could be the opportunity Pittsburgh was looking for to call up prospects Tyler Glasnow or Jameson Taillon. Both youngsters should already be stashed in most leagues.

Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said he does not want to rush SPs Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon to the major leagues this year. However, Huntington also said they both "probably" will be up with the Pirates this year. Pittsburgh's starters have combined for a 4.27 ERA, which is sixth highest in the National League. Glasnow has a 2.16 ERA in nine starts for Class AAA Indianapolis and leads the International League with 63 strikeouts in 50 innings. Taillon has posted a 1.82 ERA in eight starts for Indianapolis. Huntington also said the team could use Glasnow or Taillon to help their bullpen
Fantasy Tip: Both Glasnow and Taillon have similar high strikeout upside at the next level and are likely to be stashed already in the majority of seasonal leagues. Taillon has been set back in recent years by Tommy John surgery, so Glasnow has a little more hype surrounding him entering this year. There's a good chance we see one or both within the next month.
Mon, 23 May 2016 08:16:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kang has a .263-5-11 line in 38 at-bats, and he's a midrange option with power at the position.
