Pirates | Unlikely to pursue Ohman this year The Pittsburgh Pirates are not expected to pursue free-agent RP Will Ohman (Dodgers) this offseason, even though acquiring a left-handed reliever is one of the team's top priorities, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Ohman has a history of shoulder injuries and talks between both sides ended on a sour note last year. Pirates | 2010 payroll expected to be approximately $32 million The Pittsburgh Pirates will have a payroll of approximately $32 million next season, allowing them to pursue one or two free agents, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. However, they aren't expected to sign anyone right away. "We're going to be aggressive, in terms of getting our interest level out to players," general manager Neal Huntington said. "But I don't think we'll be stepping up to the podium too often in November or December; it's more likely to be January, as guys fall into that value category that we're willing to pay."
