Philadelphia Phillies news, rumors and injuries

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels is firmly on the trade block this week, and the Phillies are telling several teams that they'd prefer it if they get their "best" offers in by Wednesday, July 29, according to sources. Philadelphia continues to speak with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox about Hamels. The Phillies have initiated talks with about half of that group, though. The Astros have made a late push to land Hamels after he threw a no-hitter over the weekend. The Giants appear to have a hard time matching the Phillies' demands. Hamels' next start is Thursday, July 30, against the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Tip: Expect Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) to be dealt sometime later this week. The Dodgers and Rangers remain his most likely landing spots. Hamels already has fantasy ace value, but he'll be even more attractive pitching for a contending team.

Fantasy Tip: It seems inevitable that Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) will be traded this week, it's just a matter of where he lands. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers are the favorites for his services. Hamels is already a fantasy ace, but his value will increase slightly pitching for a contender.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels is expected to land with either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Texas Rangers, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are also discussing Hamels with the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox, but those teams are having more trouble matching up on a potential deal than the Dodgers or Rangers. Sources would be surprised if any trade is worked out before Tuesday, July 28. The Dodgers and Rangers, among other teams, both had scouts during Hamels' no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. Hamels is under contract for three more years after 2015 and has a team or vesting option for a fourth season, making him more attractive than the class of free-agent aces on the market. Teams speaking with Philadelphia won't be surprised if a deal goes right down to the deadline Friday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: Hamels' ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) numbers this year with the Phils don't look that great, particularly because of the lack of run support he's receiving. But he remains one of the top-tier pitchers in the game, and a trade away from Philly will only increase his fantasy value while pitching for a contender.

Fantasy Tip: Franco ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) sat out Thursday with a sore wrist, but he has three doubles and a homer in his last two games and doesn't appear to be bothered by the injury. Feel free to deploy him as you normally would at FantasyScore.

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in an 11-5 win over the Chicago Cubs Sunday, July 26, and he has two home runs and five RBI in his last two games.
Fantasy Tip: Howard ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is up to 18 homers on the year, but with a .226 batting average, he is a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Rupp ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been sharing work with Carlos Ruiz and will receive the start Sunday. He has only one hit in his last six games and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Sunday, July 26. OF Odubel Herrera will start in center field and is batting second in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Revere ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) could return to the lineup in the near future, so owners should monitor the situation. Herrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has recorded at least one hit in 15 of his last 18 games and has seven RBI during that span. He could be a cheaper starting option for owners on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: If that was the last game Hamels throws for the Phillies, he went out with a bang. Hamels ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) is a top-flight starter on FantasyScore regardless of the jersey he dons.

Fantasy Tip: Ruiz ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has been sharing starts with Cameron Rupp over the last few weeks but is receiving the start Saturday. He has not picked up a hit in any of his last five games and probably is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Saturday, July 25. OF Odubel Herrera will start in center field and is batting second in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Revere ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the near future. Herrera ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is hitting .373 with two home runs and seven RBI this month and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Fantasy Tip: Papelbon is a nice trade target for some teams but his unwillingness to be a setup man could cut into his possible destinations. He has recorded 17 saves and has a 1.59 ERA this season but would lose a lot of fantasy value if he is not a closer after the trade deadline.

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerome Williams allowed three runs on six hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs Friday, July 24, with one walk and four strikeouts. It was his first start since being activated from the disabled list due to a strained hamstring.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the quality start, Williams' ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) ERA for the season stands at 6.28. He will make his next start against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, July 29, but is not a recommended FantasyScore option.
Fri, 24 Jul 2015 18:54:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Papelbon has a 0.98 WHIP and 1.59 ERA through 37 games, with 40 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. Despite his desire to be traded to a contender, the Phils may experience difficulty moving him because of his contract.
Fri, 24 Jul 2015 17:56:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: If the Phils had been in contention, there was a slight chance that Lee ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could have returned as a reliever later this year. He could attempt to resume throwing during the winter, although there's also a strong possibility that he could retire.
Fri, 24 Jul 2015 10:15:06 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ruf ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is hitting .347-3-8 in 49 at-bats against lefties this season and is worth the low-end flyer on FantasyScore.
