Fantasy Tip: When healthy Phegley is only worth a look as a No. 2 receiver in AL-only fantasy formats. Stephen Vogt remains the primary backstop in Oakland.

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has started doing "sock throws," or throwing balls the length of a sanitary sock, which limits the amount of strain on the shoulder and which is the first step before playing catch.
Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has a ways to go before he is able to return to the big club. With the closer situation rather shaky in Oakland, it's possible Doolittle could get a look in the role by the end of the season if he can return and stay healthy. However, don't expect that until at least September, if not 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp still has plenty left in the tank, and he can help those in AL-only rotisserie formats in the runs scored and steals categories.

Oakland Athletics SP Ryan Madson will remain as the team's closer despite the fact he is tied for the league lead in blow saves and his ERA has increased in each month this season. "At this point, we still have confidence in him," manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday, July 26. "He's throwing as hard as he has all year here the last couple times out, he's performed really well the last couple of times before (Monday)."
Fantasy Tip: Madson has struggled, so fantasy owners of his will want to stash John Axford if you have the roster flexibility at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt returns after missing the last few games because of a family issue. He is hitting .280 with eight home runs and 30 RBI this season and should be a decent starting option in deeper mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia has recorded six hits and four RBI over his last eight games and is hitting .302 this season. He can be a starting option in AL-only leagues and some daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt is having a respectable season with 35 runs, eight home runs, 30 RBI and a .280/.321/.448 slash line, and he is a viable starting catcher in the majority of seasonal leagues. You can return him to your starting lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia has struggled with his average in the month of July, as his batting average has slipped from .324 to .302. Still, he has solid power potential and is a must-start in AL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats.

Fantasy Tip: Mengden has a 5.73 ERA and is starting to resemble a youngster with upside who was rushed to the majors out of necessity. He still has a bright future, but he should only be rostered in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats at this point.

Oakland Athletics SP Jesse Hahn was sent back to Class AAA Nashville Monday, July 25, after he allowed just one run in 7 2/3 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, July 24. The A's have off days Thursday, July 28, and Sept. 1, so they only need four starters, and SP Rich Hill (finger) is expected back soon.
Fantasy Tip: All along it was known this was just a spot start for Hahn, so he didn't carry much fantasy value. Even with the strong effort he has a 5.53 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and ugly 4.5 K/9. He's a deep sleeper as a matchup play, at best, if he sees another start at some point for the A's this year.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt is having a serviceable season with 35 runs, eight home runs, 30 RBI and a .280/.321/.448 slash line, and he is a viable starting catcher in most leagues. Be ready to return him to your lineups Tuesday.

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Martin Perez Monday, July 25. 3B Ryon Healy is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh, with 3B Danny Valencia moving across the diamond to play first base.
Fantasy Tip: Healy has held his own with a .278 average, two homers and seven RBI in his first 36 at-bats in the majors and is worth a look for depth at corner infield in AL-only leagues. He's merely a deep sleeper in DFS this evening, though. Alonso has picked things up at the plate in July with a .269 average but still has just one homer and nine RBI on the month and is a very average fantasy commodity with limited power.
Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:50:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Get Reddick back into all seasonal lineups. He's not an ideal candidate to grace your daily lineups, though, as he's batting only .169 with no home runs off lefties in 59 at-bats in 2016.
Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:41:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The veteran outfield has a history of neck injuries, so this is something that could keep him out a while longer. Stay tuned for updates. Smolinski is hitting .333 this month and has two homers in his last four games, so he's certainly worth a low-priced flier in DFS against Perez.
Mon, 25 Jul 2016 13:53:23 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The A's are being careful not to run Hill back too soon since he's a valuable trade chip before the Aug. 1 deadline. His 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 plays in all leagues, but there is no timetable for his return to the mound. Stay patient with the talented left-hander.
