Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns was leading off and playing center field for a fourth straight game Tuesday, May 5. Despite the fact he entered the day hitting .357 (5-for-14) with some strong defense, he is the likely man to lose a roster spot when OF Coco Crisp (elbow) returns from the 15-day disabled list, perhaps as soon as Wednesday, May 6.
Fantasy Tip: Burns ($2,000; 4.0% of cap) has hit the ball well, but it's a numbers game. Veteran Sam Fuld has just one hit over his past 29 at-bats in nine games, but he is likely to retain his spot. Take a wait-and-see approach with Burns going forward, as he could very well be optioned out this week.

Oakland Athletics RP Tyler Clippard has been filling in as the closer while RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) has been sidelined. There haven't been many save chances, as Clippard is 0-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 10 games with two saves in three chances.
Fantasy Tip: When Doolittle returns, Clippard is likely to return to a setup role, so fantasy owners will want to start preparing for that. Doolittle is making progress and could return in the next couple of weeks.

The Oakland Athletics are close to getting OF Coco Crisp (elbow) back from a minor-league rehab stint. In fact, there is a 50-50 chance he might come off of the 15-day disabled list to lead off and play left field Wednesday, May 6, against the Minnesota Twins.
Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players will want to Crisp officially activated and then wait for him to prove his health in a game or two without any setbacks before trusting him again. He has a lot of rust to knock off after a considerable layoff.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is rapidly nearing a return to the bullpen, and he could immediately push Tyler Clippard to a setup role when he returns. Clippard has just two saves in three chances, as the A's haven't had many save chances in a rough first month. Both relievers should be owned in the majority of leagues, even when Doolittle returns initially.

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($4,500, 9.0% of your cap) has a .372-7-25 line in the first five weeks of the season. At this price, Vogt is a daily consideration on FantasyScore.

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler entered the game Monday, May 4, against the Minnesota Twins with no hits over his 20 at-bats, and just one knock in the past 31 at-bats. He had a day off Sunday, May 3, and he worked on his hitting in the cage.
Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners would be wise to avoid Butler ($3,700; 7.4% of cap) until he is able to get untracked and piece together a few decent games in a row.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) played seven innings in a minor-league rehab game for Class A Stockton (Calif.) Sunday, May 3, and he was fine. He was scheduled to play another seven innings Monday, May 4, before getting a day off to rest Tuesday, May 5.
Fantasy Tip: Crisp could potentially return to the big club by Thursday, May 7, but FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game or two without any lingering effects of his injury.
Mon, 04 May 2015 19:43:32 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Freiman has been sidelined since the middle of spring training due to back pain. He could return to the big club at some point and prove FantasyScore players with a cheap source of power.

Oakland Athletics SP Jarrod Parker (elbow) continues to work his way back from reconstructive elbow surgery, and manager Bob Melvin said Monday, May 4, that Parker's velocity was up and his ability to strike out batters is improving.
Fantasy Tip: Parker might be back by the end of May, although his role remains uncertain at this point. He could have a spot in the rotation, or he might work in long relief. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he can officially return and his role is determined.

Oakland Athletics SP A.J. Griffin (elbow) is working his way back from reconstructive elbow surgery, and manager Bob Melvin said Monday, April 4, that Griffin might be nearing a rehab assignment soon.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin isn't likely to return until right around the All-Star break, so FantasyScore players need not bother with him for a while.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Doolittle will immediately return to the closer's role when he's ready, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him be eased back into ninth-inning duties with Tyler Clippard. Both relievers should be held onto in all fantasy leagues, at least for a bit after Doolittle comes back.
Mon, 04 May 2015 13:57:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Burns ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is getting some playing time at the leadoff spot at the expense of Sam Fuld right now. Burns is a speedster that is particularly attractive setting the table for the scrappy A's, and he's a solid choice for FantasyScore players tonight. However, his fantasy value may be short-lived once Coco Crisp returns soon.

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler, who was given the day off Sunday, May 3, is mired in an 0-for-20 slump. He's expected to return to the starting lineup Monday, May 4, to face Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes. Butler is 8-for-30 with a home run and three doubles against Hughes in his career.
Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) probably won't draw a lot of FantasyScore eyes tonight while in the midst of a slump, but you could choose to take him on and zig when others zag because of his good career numbers against Hughes.
Sun, 03 May 2015 16:45:52 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is up to six home runs and 20 RBIs on the year, and although he usually sits against lefties, he is a strong option at FantasyScore whenever he faces right-handed pitcher.
Sun, 03 May 2015 11:10:07 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is off to a solid start and likely is receiving a day off. Billy Burns had a solid debut in the last game but is not a great option at this point.
