Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is oft-injured and a risky pick even in the later rounds since he's already hurt.

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz said he went back to his old mechanics from last year before tossing six scoreless innings Monday, March 30. Pomeranz had tweaked his mechanics early this spring in order to master a changeup. He is lined up to be the team's fifth starter.
Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) had a solid season in 2014, going 5-4 with a 2.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 69 innings. He's an under-the-radar starting option for owners in deep mixed leagues, and he should make for a nice matchup play at FantasyScore throughout the year.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) is cleared to play in a minor-league game Tuesday, March 31. If he is able to get into a spring game by Wednesday, April 1, or the Bay Bridge Series against the San Francisco Giants, manager Bob Melvin says Crisp could be ready for the opener.
Fantasy Tip: Crisp is brittle, so fantasy owners who draft him in yearly leagues will want to have plenty of depth at the outfield position.

Fantasy Tip: Be wary when taking Crisp, as pain in the right elbow could mean a lengthy stint on the disabled list. Right now Crisp should be drafted in middle to late rounds only, the later and better, and stashed away.

Fantasy Tip: It appears the Athletics' starting rotation may be set with a push to include a couple of young starters the team acquired in trades. Zito would have had increased fantasy value had he made the rotation, but now his value is next to nothing.

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) played catch for the first time since being shut down with a shoulder strain in January Friday, March 27, and he said he's feeling good. He made 15 throws from 45 feet and 10 throws from 60 feet and was pain-free. Doolittle will play catch every other day and increase the distance of his throws. However, Doolittle won't return earlier than May.
Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to regain the closing role when he returns, but it's also entirely possible that Tyler Clippard keeps the job if he's performing well. Both relievers are worth drafting in deep mixed leagues, and it's preferable to handcuff them to each other.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a big surprise, as oblique strains can often be tricky and require plenty of rest. For that reason, Reddick ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) doesn't make for a strong FantasyScore play when he initially returns to action.

Fantasy Tip: Clippard enters as the closer because of an injury to Sean Doolittle (shoulder), who could miss the first month of the season. Both relievers are worth owning in deep mixed leagues, and Clippard could hang onto the job if he's pitching well when Doolittle returns.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($4,500, 9,0% of cap) has some ground to make up. Monitor his progress the next few days before deciding to use him as a low-end OF option on FantasyScore.
Thu, 26 Mar 2015 16:31:38 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Continue to check back for updates on Reddick's ($3,500. 7.0%) pursuit to open the season with the team. He is a serious injury risk and played just 114 games in 2013 and 109 last year. Still there is power upside, and Reddick is a viable late-round selection if you're lacking pop in the endgame of drafts. Allow Reddick to prove his health before utilizing him in FantasyScore contests.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) surprised teammates and manager Bob Melvin by taking part in warmups Thursday, March 26, as he was supposed to be out a few days. Crisp is nursing a sore elbow and received a cortisone shot Tuesday, March 24.
Fantasy Tip: Injuries are nothing new to Crisp ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), however it is encouraging he is feeling better so quickly. At 35, Crisp is a long way from his prime and only returned nine home runs and 19 stolen bases last season after going 20/20 in 2013. He is well within late-round-flier territory in deep mixed leagues and unlikely to have any major fantasy impact outside of runs and stolen bases. He is aggressively priced and an ill-advised option at FantasyScore, too.

Fantasy Tip: Doolittle is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season, and Tyler Clippard will handle the ninth-inning duties in his absence. However, it isn't out of the question for Clippard to take the job and run with it. Both relievers are risky selections before the endgame of drafts in shallow leagues. In deep formats, both are suitable targets for saves. It is all speculation at this point how the bullpen roles will shake out when Doolittle returns, so the healthy arm with the job should be the priority.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) hit 58 home runs through the first 1171 at-bats of his career, but the 28-year-old has fallen out of favor with two organizations in two years since. Oakland has a knack for getting the most of their players, and Davis has upside. His spring should have him on your radar as a late-round flier in deep leagues, and he is a must-own player in AL-only formats. His FantasyScore price leaves a lot of room for profit if his recent surge continues into the season.
Wed, 25 Mar 2015 07:06:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Doolittle could just miss the first couple of weeks, with Tyler Clippard filling in at closer. Clippard is a decent reliever to own even without save potential for ratios help and K's. Doolittle is a good second closer to target in traditional leagues.
Tue, 24 Mar 2015 22:13:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz remains in a fight for one of the two rotation jobs, but an injury at this juncture of spring training would be damaging. As it stands, if he can win a rotation job he would only be worth a look in AL-only fantasy leagues when rounding out a rotation.
