Fantasy Tip: Since the All-Star break, Smolinski is 8-for-21 (.381) with a home run and four RBI. The team is looking to getting an extended at Smolinski down the stretch, and he's at least worth owning in all AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: This was the third time in four starts that Manaea hasn't allowed a run, and despite incredibly winning just one of those games he has brought his ERA down from 7.62 on May 21 to 4.61 after tonight. There's a lot of upside in the young lefty, and he has done enough to be an interesting addition in deep mixed leagues.

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia, SS Marcus Semien and 1B Billy Butler are not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22. 3B Ryon Healy is at the hot corner and is batting eighth, while SS Arismendy Alcantara is playing shortstop and hitting ninth. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in center field again and is hitting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.
Fantasy Tip: Healy has seen regular at-bats since his call-up and is hitting .250 with a homer and six RBI in 24 at-bats, but he's merely short-term depth in AL leagues and a low-end deep sleeper pick in DFS. Alcantara has a very limited offensive profile and has no upside hitting low in the order. Smolinski is probably the most attractive of the trio in daily lineups as a value pick after homering last night.

Fantasy Tip: Gray has eight losses in his last nine decisions, a far cry from the pitcher that dominated for Oakland in the past few years. As hard as it is to say, Gray does not have fantasy value until he can figure out just exactly what happened.

Fantasy Tip: Hill doesn't look to be close to a return, and that can be a problem since the A's might want to trade him before the Aug. 1 deadline. He should remain universally stashed with his stellar 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.7 K/9, however. Stay tuned for more updates on his timeline for a return.

Fantasy Tip: It's just another spot start for Hahn, who has a 6.49 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and ugly 4.2 K/9 in seven starts for the A's in 2016. He could join the rotation permanently if Rich Hill is traded, but Hahn shouldn't be on anyone's radar outside of AL-only leagues as a shaky matchup play.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Matt Moore Thursday, July 21. OF Jake Smolinski is starting in center field and is batting eighth, while 3B Ryon Healy draws in at third base and is hitting ninth. 3B Danny Valencia moves across the diamond to first base and SS Marcus Semien is batting leadoff.
Fantasy Tip: With a lefty on the bump, Crisp and Alonso are rested. Smolinski doesn't move the DFS needle much hitting that low in the order. He's a desperation stab. Healy has looked good so far but is untested and also has limited upside hitting ninth tonight. Both Valencia and Semien have good power and are nice value selections for daily gamers against the lefty.

Oakland Athletics SP Daniel Mengden (1-5) allowed three runs on five hits over five innings in a loss to the Houston Astros Wednesday, July 20, with five walks and five strikeouts. The 23-year-old rookie right-hander struggled with command for much of his outing, although he held the Astros scoreless for the final three innings. "I think he's getting behind and still trying to jam all four pitches in there as opposed to trying to establish one or two early," manager Bob Melvin said. "Certainly when everything is going well it's easy to do. When it's not maybe you have to simplify a little bit."
Fantasy Tip: Mengden is 0-2 with a 9.33 ERA over four starts this month, with 14 walks and 18 strikeouts through 18 1/3 innings. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 11:25:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The A's are being cautious with their 36-year-old left-hander, who is a trade candidate this summer. His blister injury isn't serious, but it could affect his pitching if he returns too soon. Hill has been phenomenal for his owners with a 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 this year, although he may have already peaked in 2016.

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia and 2B Jed Lowrie are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. 3B Ryon Healy is at the hot corner and is hitting seventh, while 2B Arismendy Alcantara is starting at the keystone and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Doug Fister. Also, SS Marcus Semien moves up to second in the batting order.
Fantasy Tip: Healy has shown well in his first 19 major league at-bats with six hits (one homer), six RBI and a .319 average. He's more of a deep sleeper pick for now in DFS and merely an AL-only option in seasonal leagues. Alcantara can run a little but but is extremely limited offensively and should be ignored in DFS. Semien gains daily value today hitting second and is a fine addition to any fantasy lineup with his 20 home runs and 48 RBI from the shortstop position.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:52:32 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Alcantara has plus-wheels and can help owners in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues chasing steals. However, he likely won't receive enough playing time to be a regular fantasy contributor. Overton can be replaced in all seasonal leagues.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:35:33 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Reddick is likely being showcased for a trade at the upcoming deadline, and what better way to earn teams' notice than to deliver a game-winning hit. Whichever team ends up with Reddick might end up using him more, so keep an eye on his landing spot.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:48:01 -0700
Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, C Stephen Vogt and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Dallas Keuchel Tuesday, July 19. 3B Danny Valencia will start at first base and is batting third. OF Khris Davis will start in left field, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. C Matt McBride will start at catcher and is batting ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Valencia is hitting only .214 over the last seven days but should still be a decent starting candidate. Butler is hitting .250 this month and can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues. McBride is hitting under .200 this season and should be avoided in most leagues.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:24:46 -0700
Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill (finger) is not a candidate to land on the disabled list at this point, but the Athletics are waiting to see how the skin on his finger heals before committing to his next start.
Fantasy Tip: The good news is it's a minor injury for Hill and not related to the groin injury that landed him on the DL not too long ago. Still, his blister could affect him in his next outing if it doesn't properly heal. The veteran lefty has had a fine year with a 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10.7 K/9, but he's got a lengthy injury history and may have already reached his peak in 2016. A trade to a contender is possible and could boost his fantasy value.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 06:15:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: His line still sits at .296-6-22, which isn't terrible for 203 at-bats. He has hit two homers in 115 at-bats since April. That's concerning for someone who 12 homers in two consecutive years before hitting 20 last season. He's a midrange outfielder that could benefit from a trade.
