Oakland Athletics news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is likely out of the lineup following four straight days of catching. Phegley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has a .271 average overall but a .167 mark in the last week, so his fantasy value is down.
Sun, 02 Aug 2015 05:47:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Doolittle has thrown just one inning in the majors this season and just five innings across three minor league levels. Doolittle will have an excellent opportunity to reclaim the closer's job if he's able to return this season, but that is far from a guarantee at this point.
Sun, 02 Aug 2015 05:38:07 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Brooks struck out five and allowed five hits and one earned run over 7 1/3 innings. As long as he stays in the rotation, Brooks will be an option for GPP tournaments on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Muncy isn't worth FantasyScore consideration, as he's hitting just .205 against righties this season.
Sat, 01 Aug 2015 15:41:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Vogt ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has a .281 batting average and 13 home runs against right-handed pitchers this season, and he'll be an excellent FantasyScore choice once again.

Oakland Athletics OF Sam Fuld will start in center field and lead off Saturday, Aug. 1, against the Cleveland Indians and RHP Cody Anderson. OF Billy Burns will serve as the designated hitter and hit fourth in the order.
Fantasy Tip: Fuld ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting just .222 against right-handers this season, so it is odd to see him at the top of the order. FantasyScore owners can consider him as a cheap play in GPP tournaments, but he should be avoided in cash games.

Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman gave up an unearned run and five hits over 6 2-3 innings, walked two and struck out seven in a 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Friday, July 31. He did not get the decision. Graveman had previously yielded 14 runs in his previous three starts and 12 1/3 innings.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Graveman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has regained some footing from previous shaky outings. Keep in mind Cleveland's offense just lost Brandon Moss and hasn't been producing much (not that Moss did), but it's still a decent recovery. Graveman is best used as a pitcher on the road (4-3, 3.10), although this game was a home contest.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain whether Doolittle will replace Edward Mujica as the A's closer when he returns to action. If all goes well Saturday, he could begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly thereafter.

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (neck) played all nine innings in a rehab game for Class A Stockton Thursday, July 30. He is expected to rejoin the parent club Sunday, Aug. 2, and could resume playing as soon as Monday, Aug. 3.
Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) was only 2-for-45 in 13 games before landing on the disabled list and appears to have lost his job in center field to speedy rookie Billy Burns ($4,900, 9.8% of cap). Crisp shouldn't be owned outside of AL-only leagues and FantasyScore owners should avoid using him immediately following his activation from the disabled list.

Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman is 0-3 with a 10.22 ERA in his last three starts after going 3-2 with a 1.26 ERA in six starts from June 7 to July 4. He is 4-3 with a 3.35 ERA in nine starts on four days of rest, while he is 2-4 with a 5.17 ERA in seven starts on five days of rest. He will be facing the Cleveland Indians on four days of rest Friday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: Graveman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) is a promising young arm that is worth owning in deeper leagues, especially when starting home games at pitcher-friendly O.Co Coliseum. While he's going through this rough patch on the mound, he doesn't look attractive on FantasyScore.

Oakland Athletics RP Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session Thursday, July 30, and mixed in all his pitches while tossing 26 pitches. He said he felt good and his velocity was "definitely harder" than before.
Fantasy Tip: Time is running out this year for Doolittle to make an impact in Oakland's bullpen. There's no guarantee he could even surpass Edward Mujica as the closer after Tyler Clippard was traded away, either. Only stash Doolittle in the deepest of leagues if you're looking for saves avenues.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:56:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: It's really no surprise to see this happen, as Butler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has been having a relatively woeful year in his first campaign with the A's. In fact, he's currently registering career lows in average (.246), on-base percentage (.312) and slugging percentage (.378). As a result, it's tough to trust him right now while he's still scuffling, and Carrasco is no easy pitcher to go up against.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:57:11 -0700
Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt has tossed more than five innings in all four of his starts this year, and he's allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his outings. He went a season-high 6 1/3 innings against the Cleveland Indians, who he faces Thursday, July 30, on July 11.
Fantasy Tip: Bassitt ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has proven that he deserves an extended stay in the Oakland rotation, especially with them out of contention. He's not a bad second starting option on FantasyScore if you're looking to save money elsewhere on your roster.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:51:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Butler ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) becomes a bit more attractive to daily gamers tonight, but he's still nothing more than a mediocre FantasyScore commodity without much power hitting in a pitcher-friendly environment.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 17:07:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is receiving a scheduled day off on his rehab assignment and has not suffered a setback. No timetable has been established for his return to the majors but the A's do not need to rush him back, thanks to the emergence of Billy Burns ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in center field. Crisp should only be rostered in AL-only leagues.
