Athletics | Billy Butler pulls off rare feat

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 19:53:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler recorded his first triple in almost three years, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk in a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is riding a modest four-game hit streak, but for the most part, his production has been mediocre throughout the year. Given his lack of upside, there are usually better options available at FantasyScore in the same price range.

Athletics | Extended outing for Tyler Clippard

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 19:46:08 -0700

Oakland Athletics RP Tyler Clippard recorded a four-out save against the Colorado Rockies Wednesday, July 1, striking out two and allowing no one to reach base.

Fantasy Tip: Clippard has recorded more than three outs in three of his last four saves, and the Athletics appear to have plenty of confidence in him. With Sean Doolittle still more than a month away, Clippard looks like a safe bet to hold down the closer's job for the remainder of the season.

Athletics | Sonny Gray released from hospital

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 16:06:30 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) was released from the hospital Wednesday, July 1. There is currently no date for when he will make his next start.

Fantasy Tip: Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) was treated for severe gastroenteritis, and he missed his start Tuesday, June 30. It is the only hiccup in what has been a dominant season for the young righty. Continue to check back for updates.

Athletics | Sonny Gray has gastroenteritis

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 11:24:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) is dealing with severe gastroenteritis and remains in the hospital. He continues to receive fluids and antibiotics, and he could be released from the hospital Wednesday, July 1, or Thursday, July 2. However, there is no timetable for his return to the mound, and the A's are keeping SP Chris Bassitt around in case Gray can't make his next turn Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: This is the only setback in what has been an excellent season for Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) in 2015. A matchup against the Seattle Mariners Sunday is nice, but you should be skeptical of paying up for him on FantasyScore if he makes the start, since he could still be weak from his illness or on a pitch limit.

Athletics | Billy Butler hitting cleanup Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:44:42 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler is hitting cleanup against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) hasn't seen much success against southpaws this season, going 13-for-59 (.220) against them with two of his six home runs. He's a mediocre first base option tonight on FantasyScore, especially at O.co Coliseum.

Athletics | Ike Davis sitting out

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:36:48 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Ike Davis is not starting against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Jorge De La Rosa Tuesday, June 30. C Stephen Vogt is starting at first base, which allows C Josh Phegley to enter the starting lineup. OF Mark Canha is starting in left field and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) could be an excellent value play to save money at other positions tonight. He's sporting a .362/.423/.617 line with three of his five home runs off lefties in 47 at-bats this year. On the other hand, Vogt ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) and Canha ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) are weaker plays. Vogt has just one of his 13 long balls off lefties and Canha has just seven hits in 59 at-bats (.119) against southpaws in 2015.

Athletics | Josh Reddick sitting vs. lefty

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:31:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick is not in the lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Jorge De La Rosa Tuesday, June 30. OF Sam Fuld is starting in right field and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Fuld ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is another lefty stick but has much less offensive firepower than Reddick. We don't recommend Fuld in any daily lineups tonight.

Athletics | Sonny Gray in hospital

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:23:59 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (flu) was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms Monday, June 29, and remains there Tuesday, June 30. Manager Bob Melvin said Gray is feeling better.

Fantasy Tip: The A's are unsure when Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) will be released from the hospital or when his next start will come. It's safe to say that he'll be a considerable risk at FantasyScore given his price the next time he toes the rubber.

Athletics | Sonny Gray is sick

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 11:49:49 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (illness) was scratched from his start Tuesday, June 30, due to an illness.

Fantasy Tip: It's unknown if Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) will be pushed back and make his start tomorrow against the Rockies. He'll carry a bit more risky than usual if that's the case, but it's still an attractive matchup at pitcher-friendly O.co Coliseum.

Athletics | Sonny Gray scratched from start

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 11:42:05 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray (undisclosed) has been scratched from his start against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, June 30, due to an undisclosed reason.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) is removed from your FantasyScore lineups. Bassitt won't be available to use. Instead, consider stacking several or more Rockies hitters against Bassitt in this spot start.

Athletics | Chris Bassitt starting for A's

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 11:13:44 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt is making the start against the Colorado Rockies Tuesday, June 30, after SP Sonny Gray (undisclosed) was scratched for undisclosed reasons.

Fantasy Tip: First of all, make sure you remove Gray ($9,300, 18.6% of cap) from all your FantasyScore lineups. In what was a game to avoid all Rockies batters, now has become one to consider stacking them in daily games against Bassitt.

Athletics | Billy Butler breaks out

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 23:48:59 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler broke out of an 0-for-15 slump at the plate with a single, double and home run Monday, June 29, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has not had the best season in the first year of his free-agent deal, but he broke loose in this game. Still, Butler needs to show more consistency before he makes a good FantasyScore play.

Athletics | Hit streak over for Billy Burns

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 22:49:57 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns was hitless in four at-bats Monday, June 29, against the Colorado Rockies to snap his 16-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Burns ($4,500; or 9.0% of cap) is still a very strong FantasyScore value despite the hitless game. Until he goes ice cold, keep riding him at this price level. He hasn't had back-to-back hitless games all season.

Athletics | Sonny Gray shoots for double digits

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 22:49:28 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 30, against the Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: Gray is 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five straight in the month of June, and he has lasted six or more innings in six straight outings. The Rockies are just 5-24 in their past 29 games against AL West foes, so Gray ($9,300; or 18.6% of cap) is a solid FantasyScore choice despite the steep price tag.

Athletics | Kendall Graveman solid again

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 22:48:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman allowed five hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings Monday, June 29, against the Colorado Rockies. He also struck out three batters. He is 4-2 with a 2.01 ERA in eight starts since returning from the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Graveman ($5,900; or 11.8% of cap) has a bit of a steep price tag, but he has been worth the salary in FantasyScore lately. He has lasted seven or more innings in five straight outings, and he has six straight quality starts.
