Oakland Athletics news, rumors and injuriesSat, 18 May 2013 12:41:55 -0700 Updating a previous report, the Oakland Athletics have activated OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) from the disabled list. In a corresponding move, 1B Daric Barton has been designated for assignment. Share: Athletics | Chris Young hopes to return Saturday Fri, 17 May 2013 16:00:30 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) had some cramping in his quadriceps Thursday, May 16, but he hopes to return from the disabled list Saturday, May 18. Share: Athletics | Brett Anderson has stress fracture Fri, 17 May 2013 15:02:52 -0700 Oakland Athletics SP Brett Anderson (foot) has been diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture in his right foot, and he'll be re-evaluated in four weeks. Fantasy Tip: At this point, it's probably safe to drop Anderson in most mixed formats. You might be forced to stash him in a DL spot in AL-only leagues. Dan Straily has been struggling in the rotation since Anderson went on the disabled list. Sonny Gray will become a realistic option to replace Straily if he continues to falter. Share: Athletics | Hideki Okajima recalled Fri, 17 May 2013 14:28:25 -0700 The Oakland Athletics recalled RP Hideki Okajima from Triple-A Sacramento Friday, May 17, and designated RP Chris Resop for assignment in a corresponding move. Share: Athletics | Brett Anderson pushed back Wed, 15 May 2013 12:26:48 -0700 Oakland Athletics SP Brett Anderson (ankle) will not come off the disabled list Friday, May 17, as the team had hoped. Anderson still has soreness in his right ankle and won't pitch again until the pain goes away. Anderson hasn't been feeling pain in his ankle while pitching, but it bothers him when fielding and in between his starts. The team will be cautious and give him time. Fantasy Tip: Anderson has developed a reputation as an extremely slow healer, so this shouldn't come as a huge shock to those holding onto him in mixed leagues. You'll have to sit tight, maybe for another week. When he's healthy, though, and pitching like he can, he should be owned in most formats. Share: Athletics | Chris Young likely to return Friday Wed, 15 May 2013 12:02:41 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) will play for Triple-A Sacramento Thursday, May 16, and is likely to come off the disabled list Friday, May 17. The team will decide to send C Luke Montz down or designate 1B Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Young on the roster. Fantasy Tip: Michael Taylor was sent down to the minors today, so Young figures to platoon in the outfield with Seth Smith, as he was doing before. Young has power, but he won't do you any favors in the batting average category. This makes him an asset in cavernous mixed formats with deep outfield setups. Share: Athletics | Chris Young may come off DL Friday Wed, 15 May 2013 11:26:19 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) is feeling better and will play with Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, May 16. He's likely to come off the DL on Friday, May 17, if tomorrow's game goes well for him, health-wise. Fantasy Tip: Young might be in line for quite a bit of PT with Josh Reddick (wrist) on the DL. He might again be worth a look in some mixed leagues. Share: Athletics | Brett Anderson won't start Friday Wed, 15 May 2013 11:20:28 -0700 Oakland Athletics SP Brett Anderson (ankle) will not start for the parent club on Friday, May 17, as the club had originally had hoped. The left-hander's ankle is still too sore. Fantasy Tip: It's unclear when the A's expect him to return to the rotation. Perhaps he'll undergo additional testing to confirm nothing more serious, but if the probably is mostly related to pain tolerance, it seems likely that Anderson would rejoin the A's rotation in the next week or two. Dan Straily seems likely to remain with the club for at least one more start beyond today's. Share: Athletics | Coco Crisp activated Wed, 15 May 2013 10:25:56 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (hamstring) has been activated from the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: The switch hitter is off to a nice .283/.388/.556 start in 24 games and belongs back in fantasy lineups right away. Share: Athletics | Hiroyuki Nakajima rehabs Tue, 14 May 2013 13:05:47 -0700 Oakland Athletics SS Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) went 1-for-5 with a run scored for Triple-A Sacramento Tuesday, May 14, and he's hitting .241 in seven rehab games. Fantasy Tip: The A's haven't given any indication that Nakajima is close to being called up to the big leagues, and Jed Lowrie has been playing well at shortstop in Oakland. Nakajima has been playing some second base in the minors, meaning he's likely being groomed to be a utility infielder when he rejoins Oakland. That means he likely won't have much value past AL-only leagues. Share: Athletics | Yoenis Cespedes leaves with stomach bug Tue, 14 May 2013 10:22:12 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Yoenis Cespedes (illness) left the game in the fifth inning with a stomach bug Monday, May 13. Cespedes homered earlier in the game. "It came on during the game," manager Bob Melvin said. "He threw up a couple times in the bathroom. They're calling it a stomach ailment, they don't think it's a stomach virus. They think he should be in good shape to play tomorrow." Share: Athletics | Coco Crisp, Chris Young rehabbing Mon, 13 May 2013 16:23:44 -0700 Oakland Athletics OFs Coco Crisp (hamstring) and Chris B. Young (quadriceps) are close to a return, but Young felt something in his quadriceps during a rehab game Monday, May 13. Crisp had a great day of running, and he could return before Young Wednesday, May 15. Young will play in another game Tuesday, May 14, and he could be rested through the end of the week. Fantasy Tip: Michael Taylor's playing time will come to an end when Crisp and Young return. If Crisp is out there on your waiver wire, add him to your team now. Young figures to platoon in right field when he's back with Seth Smith. Both Young and Smith are worth roster spots in cavernous mixed formats. Share: Athletics | Brett Anderson ready Mon, 13 May 2013 15:33:12 -0700 Oakland Athletics SP Brett Anderson (ankle) said he had no issues with his ankle Sunday, May 12, and he feels he'll be ready to make his next start when he's eligible to come off the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Anderson is eligible to return from the DL later this week, and Dan Straily is expected to be sent down to make room for Anderson in the rotation. Some owners may have already grew tired of Anderson's oft-injured act, so check your waiver wire to see if he's available. If he's healthy, Anderson should improve on his early season results. He's definitely worth owning in deep mixed formats. Share: Athletics | Josh Reddick likely to wait on swinging Mon, 13 May 2013 15:30:30 -0700 Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) is likely to wait another week before picking up a bat. If he can't swing soon, he might decide to undergo surgery. Fantasy Tip: Reddick had similar surgery on his other wrist a few years ago and missed two months after that. He's remaining optimistic right now, but if he needs surgery, Chris B. Young and Seth Smith will benefit the most in his absence. Share: Athletics | Tom Milone loses fifth straight start Sun, 12 May 2013 23:54:05 -0700 Oakland Athletics SP Tommy Milone lost his fifth straight start, giving up five runs, six hits and three walks in five innings of a 6-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, May 12. This was the first time during the skid he failed to pitch into the seventh inning, and he has a 3.62 ERA over that span. Share: ![]() |
