Yankees | CC Sabathia expected to return Wednesday

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 13:54:23 -0700

New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (knee) has progressed enough and is expected to start against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to manager Joe Girardi. At that point the Yankees will go to a six-man rotation. Sabathia threw 60 pitches in a simulated game Friday, Sept. 4, in four innings and looked good. He wore a protective brace on his troublesome knee Friday and said it was a big improvement.

Fantasy Tip: Because of how ineffective and inefficient Sabathia ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been this year while fighting off nagging injuries, he'll probably only be attractive in AL-only leagues to finish off the year. Returning from injury against the O's isn't the time to get cute and use him on FantasyScore, either.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira to DL

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 08:35:34 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, Sept. 4, with a bone bruise in his shin. The move is retroactive to Aug. 27.

Fantasy Tip: This was a formality as he's out at least two more weeks. Greg Bird ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) will be a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Yankees | Luis Severino has been solid

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 12:41:46 -0700

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA this season, and the Yankees have scored just once in each of his losses. It's conceivable that Severino would be included in the rotation for a playoff divisional series if the Yankees make the playoffs, with SPs Ivan Nova and CC Sabathia on the outside looking in. Severino's inning are under control, so he'd likely be able to make starts in the playoffs. He has gone six innings in each of his last four starts, and the Yankees aren't putting any limitations on him.

Fantasy Tip: Severino ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) has shown he's the real deal as the team's top pitching prospect, and there's really no reason to believe he won't continue to be valuable as your second FantasyScore pitcher when he toes the rubber.

Yankees | Masahiro Tanaka earns win Wednesday

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 19:17:39 -0700

New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka (11-6) allowed four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings in a victory against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, Sept. 2, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Tanaka ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) was unable to record his sixth consecutive quality start after running into trouble during the sixth and seventh innings but still pitched well enough to get the win. His next start will come Tuesday, Sept. 8, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Yankees | Brian McCann resting against lefty

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 10:25:54 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is not in the lineup against Boston Red Sox left-handed SP Henry Owens Wednesday, Sept. 1. C J.R. Murphy is receiving the start and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) doesn't have a bad line for a backup catcher (.279-1-11), but he lacks power and is a lotto ticket on FantasyScore mainly as a source of salary cap relief.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury sitting against BoSox

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 10:19:14 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the lineup against Boston Red Sox left-handed SP Henry Owens Wednesday, Sept. 1. OF Chris Young will receive the start in left field, and he's batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has cooled off at the plate lately in limited action, but he still has a .322/.385/.603 slash line with seven of his 14 home runs against lefties. Consider him when looking for value plays against a left-hander today.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira out two more weeks

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 16:10:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) will be out at least two more weeks with a lingering bone bruise on his right shin, according to general manager Brian Cashman. More tests Monday, Aug. 31, didn't show any new damage, but Teixeira needs to be completely off of his leg for his injury to heal. He'll be on crutches for an unknown timetable, and the possibility remains that he won't play again this year. Teixeira leads the Yankees in home runs (31), RBI (79) and OPS (.905). He also received an anti-inflammatory injection.

Fantasy Tip: Don't plan on using Teixeira ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) for the rest of the season, and he's now a candidate to be dropped in most other fantasy formats since it's looking unlikely he can make much of an impact in September. Greg Bird's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) value for the rest of the season will go up slightly, and he's a decent value target on FantasyScore for his power stroke.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira has bone bruise

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 13:57:49 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira's (shin) MRI exam revealed a bone bruise that was more serious than the team initially thought, according to manager Joe Girardi. Teixeira will be on crutches for "a few days," and the team isn't ruling out his return this year.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Teixeira ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) doesn't have any broken bones or fractures in his leg. The bad news is he may not play much in the season's final month, meaning he'll be dead weight for his fantasy owners. It's unwise to rely on him at FantasyScore in September, even if he comes back. Greg Bird ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts at first base in his absence, and he's a value play for his power in daily formats.

Yankees | Didi Gregorius posts four singles

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 22:03:53 -0700

New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius had four singles in five at-bats Monday, Aug. 31, against the Boston Red Sox and he finished with an RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Gregorius ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been on fire recently, going 16-for-34 (.471) with three doubles, two homers and 11 RBIs over his past five games. He has at least one RBI in five straight games to make him a must-start in FantasyScore.

Yankees | No Stephen Drew vs. Boston

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 13:03:03 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 31. 2B Brendan Ryan is starting at second base and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Drew ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, and light-hitting Ryan ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation source of cap relief at FantasyScore. After all, Ryan owns a .214/.278/.291 slash line over the past six seasons.

Yankees | David Robertson claimed by NYY

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 07:02:48 -0700

Chicago White Sox RP David Robertson was claimed on revocable waivers by the New York Yankees. A trade must be made Monday, Aug. 31, but a deal seems unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Robertson would see a bit of a hike in value if he enters a playoff push. He's still a high-end closer option regardless.

Yankees | Chase Headley drives in four

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 17:57:58 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBI and three runs scored in a 20-6 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, Aug. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Headley ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has had some big games this year, but most nights, there are players available at FantasyScore with more upside for the same price.

Yankees | Big game for Stephen Drew

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 17:54:09 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Stephen Drew went 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored and two walks in a 20-6 win over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, Aug. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Drew ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has been an all-or-nothing option at FantasyScore this season, and that isn't going to change between now and the end of the year.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira to remain out

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 17:44:35 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (shin) is feeling "a little better" but won't play Monday, Aug. 31, against the Boston Red Sox, manager Joe Girardi said Sunday, Aug. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Teixeira ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) should be back in the lineup sooner rather than later, but continue to check on his status before plugging him into your lineup at FantasyScore.

Yankees | Luis Severino spins tidy outing

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 05:57:59 -0700

New York Yankees SP Luis Severino pitched six scoreless innings with five strikeouts during the Yankees' 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: It was Severino's ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) second win of the season, and the rookie owns a 2.17 ERA through his five starts. Seasonal owners should expect a hiccup or two down the stretch, but Severino has looked the part of a difference maker. He should be owned in all seasonal leagues and started with confidence in favorable matchups at FantasyScore.
