Arizona Cardinals news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald is dealing with a minor injury and does not need to play in a preseason game because the Cardinals know what to expect from him. He had a terrific season in 2015 and should be considered a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in fantasy leagues in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: The 36-year-old quarterback checks out as midrange No. 1 signal caller for your fantasy club, as the Cards project as one of the top offenses in the league this season. Barring injury, Palmer should again approach the 35 touchdowns and 4,671 yards he posted in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals will be cautious with their 33-year-old receiver as he works his way back from a mild medial collateral ligament sprain. Following a huge season in 2015 with 109 catches, 1215 receiving yards and nine scores, Fitzgerald presents nice value in the middle rounds of drafts, especially if you're less aggressive at the position early in drafts. Expect Fitzgerald to be ready for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Don't look for "Honey Badger" to play in the preseason, but his ability to seamlessly defend wide receivers as a cornerback or tight ends as a safety is a big deal for a team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Cardinals. Considering he has yet to experience any setbacks, expect Mathieu to be ready for Week 1 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Brown has been sidelined nearly three weeks after reportedly hitting his head on the turf late last month. He should be in line to see some snaps against the Houston Texans next Sunday. While "Smokey" is the least highly regarded of the Cardinals' three top receivers, he might be the safest bet of the bunch for 1,000 yards receiving this year and is arguably the most explosive of the bunch. He's a high-upside WR3 in most drafts.

Fantasy Tip: No big surprise here. Fitzgerald should be good to go for the Cardinals' dress rehearsal game against the Houston Texans next Sunday. He should be considered a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 for fantasy purposes when everybody is healthy in the Cardinals' offense.

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) did not play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 19, because of a medial collateral ligament injury but was able to run before and after the game. The injury is not considered serious.
Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald could sit out some practices but should be fine for the start of the regular season. He is coming off a solid 2015 season and should be a solid part of the passing game again this season. He can be a No. 3 receiver in all fantasy leagues.

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) didn't play against the San Diego Chargers Friday, Aug. 19, and head coach Bruce Arians said Fitzgerald is dealing with a "slight" sprain of the medial collateral ligament.
Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound like fantasy owners should be too concerned. Fitzgerald enjoyed a resurgence last year, and if he and Carson Palmer can stay healthy, the veteran receiver should be a high-end WR3.

Fantasy Tip: With plenty of weapons to throw to, Palmer should finish comfortably in QB1 territory again in 2016.

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson has had a good training camp, and he has been impressive his teammates and the coaching staff. He averaged 135 yards from scrimmage per game while posting eight rushing touchdowns, four receiving scores and one kickoff return for touchdown. His skills as a receiver out of the backfield are drawing lofty comparisons. "I mean, probably the best receiving back I've seen," general manager Steve Keim said Tuesday, Aug. 16. "A lot of people have compared him to Marshall Faulk, and our coaches had Marshall Faulk in Indy. I think he's very similar in some way athletically and in terms of ball-catching skills to Marshall."
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners certainly love hearing he is having a big training camp, and would be pleased if he is anything close to Faulk. Johnson has been flying off the board as a first- and second-round pick in standard fantasy formats, and as a first-round pick in PPR formats.
