Arizona Cardinals news, rumors and injuriesWed, 19 Jun 2013 16:10:21 -0700 Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd has impressed coaches early on in this offseason and seems primed for a leap in his second year. Fantasy Tip: Andre Roberts will still see plenty of reps in three-wide sets, but it looks like Floyd will get the first shot opposite Larry Fitzgerald in standard formations. Floyd has a legit (to an extent) QB now, so he's becoming a better fantasy flyer as your draft wanes. Share: Cardinals | Michael Floyd impresses coaches Wed, 19 Jun 2013 12:57:54 -0700 The Arizona Cardinals coaches were impressed with how WR Michael Floyd performed during offseason workouts. Floyd could be the starter opposite WR Larry Fitzgerald Week 1. Fantasy Tip: Floyd is expected to build off what he was able to accomplish last season and could be on the field on a regular basis. Floyd probably should be seen as a No. 4 fantasy wide receiver that has the potential to become a No. 3 receiver. The best-case scenario for Floyd probably is a low-end No. 2 receiver. Share: Cardinals | Bruce Arians backs Rashard Mendenhall Wed, 19 Jun 2013 09:53:17 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said on NFL AM that "there's no doubt" RB Rashard Mendenhall would be the featured back if the season started Wednesday, June 19. Arians is shying away from the notion that this is a time share. Mendenhall is also ready to go after fighting Achilles' tendonitis last year following early-2012 knee surgery. Fantasy Tip: Hard to believe Mendy turns 26 today. Arians' history with Mendenhall will help with the transition, and as long as he's healthy, he'll take the lion's share of carries away from Ryan Williams, Andre Ellington and Stepfan Taylor. Mendenhall is a second fantasy back that might be the victim of overvaluation. Share: Cardinals | Daryl Washington on thin ice Wed, 19 Jun 2013 06:04:12 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said LB Daryl Washington is walking a very thin line right now due to his legal issues. "He's had double incidents and, as an organization, that throws a red flag up," Arians said. Share: Cardinals | Plenty of depth at LB Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:21:07 -0700 Arizona Cardinals LB Lorenzo Alexander is expected to get his chance to start at right outside linebacker, as he tries to unseat LB O'Brien Schofield. LB Jasper Brinkley is viewed as the starting strong inside linebacker, but he'll be challenged by LB Kevin Minter. LB Karlos Dansby is penciled in as a starter for now, but LB Daryl Washington is suspended for the first four games, and it is uncertain where he'll fit in. LB Sam Acho is likely to start at left outside linebacker, but he likely needs to increase his production to remain as the starter. Share: Cardinals | Jerraud Powers to challenge for starting job Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:20:30 -0700 Arizona Cardinals CB Jerraud Powers has an injury history, but he also has a connection to head coach Bruce Arians from their days together with the Indianapolis Colts. Powers is expected to push CB Antoine Cason for the starting cornerback job opposite CB Patrick Peterson. Share: Cardinals | Levi Brown shows rust at minicamp Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:19:56 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday, June 18, that OT Levi J. Brown (triceps) was "very rusty" during minicamp, but he added that Brown's "skills are still there." Brown is making his way back from a torn triceps muscle, which forced him to miss the entire 2012 season. Share: Cardinals | Praise for Nate Potter Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:16:38 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians and the team's coaching staff is reportedly high on OT Nate Potter after organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp workouts. Share: Cardinals | Freddie Kitchens visits team facilities Sun, 16 Jun 2013 15:33:40 -0700 Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Freddie Kitchens (heart) returned to team headquarters Thursday, June 13, nine days following life-saving surgery to repair an aorta dissection. The Cardinals are hoping Kitchens can return to coaching in at least a limited capacity during training camp. Share: Cardinals | Looking for consistency from LaRon Byrd Fri, 14 Jun 2013 15:26:16 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said WR LaRon Byrd did not impress him much during minicamp because he was too inconsistent. "He had a couple nice catches that were unbelievable throws. (But) he's too inconsistent right now. He has talent and a good future, but he's got to get more consistent," Arians said. Share: Cardinals | Hope Ryan Swope will be ready for camp Fri, 14 Jun 2013 15:25:39 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he hopes WR Ryan Swope (head) will be ready for training camp. Swope has missed some offseason workouts because of reported concussion-like symptoms. Share: Cardinals | Expect Stepfan Taylor to catch up Fri, 14 Jun 2013 11:11:22 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he expects RB Stepfan Taylor to be able to catch up during training camp after he was unable to take part in offseason workouts because Stanford was still in school. Taylor will spend some time with time with running backs coach Stump Mitchell next week. Share: Cardinals | Coach wants to players to be in better shape Fri, 14 Jun 2013 11:05:19 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he would like the players to get in better shape for training camp because some players struggled with their conditioning during offseason workouts. "We're not in the best shape," Arians said. "We've got to get in better condition to play as fast as we want to play, especially offensively." Share: Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald's situation resembles Reggie Wayne's Thu, 13 Jun 2013 16:52:47 -0700 Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters that when he was with the Indianapolis Colts as offensive coordinator and eventually interim head coach last season, WR Reggie Wayne started to embrace the idea of lining up at different spots along the line of scrimmage. Arians said WR Larry Fitzgerald has welcomed the idea, as well, as he's being tried in the "X," "Z" and "F" positions. Fantasy Tip: Of course, Wayne had Andrew Luck throwing to him. Can Carson Palmer offer similar hope? Fitzgerald is a borderline WR1 (safer as a 2) but, if he falls, could reward those willing to pounce on a reduced price. Share: Cardinals | Rashard Mendenhall clearly No. 1 back Thu, 13 Jun 2013 10:46:10 -0700 Arizona Cardinals RB Rashard Mendenhall has clearly been the top option in the backfield. He's looked good hitting holes, stable in pass protection and catching out of the backfield. Fantasy Tip: There's a bit of competition behind Mendy, but his experience and style should make him the top inside runner as long as he's healthy. Still, investing in him as anything more than an RB3 won't be comfortable, considering Ryan Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington each may still have a shot to earn considerable reps.
