Cardinals | David Johnson compared to elite RB

Sat, 30 May 2015 10:15:07 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson was recently compared to Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte by Arizona running backs coach Stump Mitchell. "You can put him outside and use him as a receiver and he's a good runner," Mitchell said. "He's a guy who has a lot of confidence in his ability to play. He's coachable. He's a smart young man, he's physical," Mitchell added. "He has excellent hands and he's a bigger target to throw the ball to."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Johnson will be able to do more than just pound the ball with his 6-foot-1, 224-pound frame. Mitchell also said that Johnson will ideally be able to make Andre Ellington step up his game -- iron sharpening iron. Heading into the 2015 season, Ellington should be drafted as a RB2, while Johnson should be taken as a RB4 with RB3 upside.

Cardinals | Jerraud Powers ready to start

Wed, 27 May 2015 12:46:46 -0700

Arizona Cardinals CB Jerraud Powers is expected to start opposite CB Patrick Peterson now that CB Antonio Cromartie is out of town. Head coach Bruce Arians said Powers probably had better pass coverage and was a better tackler than Cromartie.

Sun, 24 May 2015 06:41:55 -0700

Arizona Cardinals OT Bobby Massie will enter training camp as the favorite for the starting right tackle job, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Massie is expected to be pushed by OT D.J. Humphries for the job.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer sees ticking clock

Fri, 22 May 2015 06:34:27 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) understands that at age 35, with two knee reconstructions under his belt, time is ticking, according to Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. Palmer has been rehabbing diligently, exceeding expectations six months following surgery, and has a sense of urgency, Arians said.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is a low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues. He has the tools around, in a pass-first system, with an improved offensive line. Staying healthy will all but ensure he ranks within the top 15 of fantasy passers in the upcoming year. Target Palmer, followed by a competent backup, once the elite names come off the board in the Rounds 8-12 area of fantasy drafts.

Cardinals | No. 3 QB spot up for grabs

Tue, 19 May 2015 16:48:03 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Logan Thomas isn't a sure bet for the No. 3 quarterback job in Arizona anymore. Head coach Bruce Arians said the job is wide open, with QBs Chandler Harnish and Phillip Sims also competing. Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton are the No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks, respectively.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer held out of drills

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:50:14 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) was held out of 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, May 19, during organized team activities. Palmer did, however, participate in 7-on-7 drills.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is still supposedly a couple months away from being at 100%. At this point in his career he's past the stage of being a QB1 and should only be drafted as a backup and/or bye-week replacement.

Cardinals | Michael Floyd praised by HC

Tue, 19 May 2015 12:54:43 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd was recognized for his conditioning by head coach Bruce Arians during organized team activities.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd had a career high in touchdowns (6) in 2014, but only managed 841 yards on 47 catches, partly due to inept quarterback play after Carson Palmer's injury. Floyd has the size and talent to really improve this year and could be a WR3 if Palmer stays healthy.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer will wear brace

Tue, 19 May 2015 12:46:28 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) will wear a knee brace this season as he continues to recover from surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is still supposedly a couple months away from being at 100%. At this point in his career he's past the stage of being a QB1 and should only be drafted as a backup and/or bye-week replacement.

Cardinals | Ifeanyi Momah likely to make team

Mon, 18 May 2015 16:01:15 -0700

Arizona Cardinals TE Ifeanyi Momah has a good chance to make the team's final roster following the retirement of TE John Carlson. Momah is likely to make the full-time switch to tight end, after playing wide receiver in high school and college. Momah is expected to earn a spot on the Cardinals' depth chart behind TEs Troy Niklas and Darren Fells.

Fantasy Tip: Momah's experience at wide receiver gives him a pass-catching ability that's lacked by both Niklas and Fells. Carlson was the best pass-catching tight end on the Cardinals' roster in recent years, and Momah has a chance to follow in those footsteps, with Niklas and Fells serving as block-first tight ends.

Cardinals | David Johnson signs with AZ

Mon, 18 May 2015 14:42:47 -0700

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB David Johnson signed a four-year deal Monday, May 18. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson won't hold a lot of value, and running backs in third-down and red-zone roles shouldn't be relied on any given week. He could still provide a few touchdowns and is a good handicap for Andre Ellington.

Cardinals | D.J. Humphries working at RT

Sun, 17 May 2015 06:46:45 -0700

Cardinals | David Johnson praised by HC

Sat, 16 May 2015 10:51:52 -0700

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB David Johnson was recently lauded by head coach Bruce Arians. "[He's] very, very bright. The kid can do anything as far as a wide receiver, running back, full back," Arians said. "He will find a niche quick because he can learn so much."

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Johnson is already making a good impression. It has been reported that Johnson will play mostly on third downs and in red-zone situations in order to keep Andre Ellington fresher. Johnson may be on the right track, but he still shouldn't be regarded as more than a RB4.

Cardinals | Andre Ellington aided by new RB?

Wed, 13 May 2015 12:17:36 -0700

Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington said the selection of rookie RB David Johnson will give him more rest time and keep the offense upbeat.

Fantasy Tip: Ellington likely won't see the nearly 250 touches he saw last season, but he could still produce at a higher clip with a lightened load. Ellington will still start as long as he's healthy, but his fantasy value takes a mild hit. He'll do more in point-per-reception leagues (46 catches in 2014). He still has RB2 potential in PPR formats.
